from the "it's just another crotchety old man trying to stay relevant to his public" file:

Stadium may be closer to historical designation
http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/News/article....

"Although wrecking balls will soon be poised to split the uprights at Memorial Stadium, a citizens group seeking to have it recognized as a national historical site has learned the stadium may be one step closer to obtaining that designation.

Tuesday, former Johnson City commissioner Pete Paduch, who is also a member of the Committee for Preservation and Responsible Spending, received a letter from the Tennessee Historical Commission stating that it feels the more than 70-year-old stadium is eligible to be recognized on the National Register of Historic Places."

Nothing historical here but several decades of stupid and otherwise meaningless football games...

"In August, the Committee for Preservation and Responsible Spending submitted an application to the Tennessee Historical Commission requesting the stadium be recognized. Members of that commission also visited the site and researched the stadium’s history, Paduch said.

According to the letter, the Tennessee Historical Commission now intends to present Memorial Stadium’s nomination to the State Review Board in January. "

translation: the Johnson City commissioners need to get the demo of Memorial Stadium push up ahead of schedule and have the place leveled by late December...

You just wait! Johnson City will have a new stadium, a new senior center, a new performing arts center, a new aquatic center, and the taxpayers aren't going to know what hit em. This agenda has been in the works, back when Paduch and Mahon were trying to protect the taxpayers of Johnson City. Pay close attention to the vote on this.

Too bad that the senior citizens still don't have their center, but you can bet your last dollar that a performing arts center will be built with J.C.'s tax dollars. It appears the J.C. Press is attacking Pete Paduch again. Who has the tax payer's interest in mind now? They won't know what hit them!

Steve Spurrier field/Memorial Stadium actually began life as Roosevelt Stadium in 1935. It was built/partially funded by the WPA (Works Progress Administration; A FDR New Deal Program), city funds and private donations...

A lot of football has been played there over all these years. Memorial Stadium was also home to the "Burley Bowl" that was played there for several years ('45-'56). A lot of memories there for a lot of people...

I can certainly understand the sentiment...

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Sagittarius

Be careful about what you eat and drink today, my prancing Archer. Your body is in a sensitive state, so be well advised and steer clear of anything that might upset you, or to which you're sometimes allergic. Avoid anyone who's a one-man germ factory, in case a few bugs happen to jump out and over to you. Right now, you could do without it.
