I'm looking for a good doctor in Johnson City, and I'd like any recommendations so I don't have to just pick one randomly.

I am leaning toward Internal Medicine, because I have a very complicated medical history and current condition.

I need a doctor who will take the time to listen, make referrals if/when needed, and not shy away from a patient with rare conditions.

Thanks in advance for any advice.:)

Johnson City Internal Medicine, which is part of the State of Franklin Healthcare Association are a good bunch of docs, especially Dr. Frank Johnson Jr. He's saved my hide more than once and is very easy to work with and very understanding. It's difficult to find a good doctor nowadays with the insurance companies calling a lot of the shots, but I do recommend you check into them. I've been going there for 20+ years and I'm still kicking, thanks to them. Good luck with your choice.

Thank you SO much for your honest reply! I have had my eye on them for a while, and one of my specialists recommended their group to me.

I've been going to ETSU in Bristol, and they have been nice and helpful, but it is a residency program, which means I often have to tell and re-tell my lengthy and complex history to new residents all the time. They are not bad by any means, but I need a more stable, solid doctor who isn't going to be gone in 2-3 years.

Again, thank you very much. I'd been thinking about switching to them, and I take it as a sign that you recommend them, too. It's scary to make the change to a new doctor...I've had so many bad/useless/etc. experiences with doctors that it's hard to stay positive sometimes.

Thank you. I believe you will find the practice to be just what you desire. Not only are the doctors good, but the nursing staff are excellent. Most of the tests can be done in-house, sparing you the routine of running all over town to get service. I wish you well with your health and well being. Yep, there are some lousy docs out there in the mix, but hopefully you will find the good ones there! God Bless You!

Uh-oh, so there are not-so-good ones there? Can you say who they are so I don't accidentally sign up to see one of them? I've had it with not-so-good doctors.

If you choose a Doctor from Johnson City, dont let them EVER send you to the medical center. Maybe some have gotten lucky but i have had 5 relatives to die at the Medical Center. Cause of death was "internal infection" .We were not told just what that really meant until we point blank asked the Doctor "did they have staph"" .Each time, the answer was yes. I know, every hospital has staph but JCMC is OVERUN with it! Dont go in or get any open wounds while there and maybe you will be ok. I stick to Kingsport Doctors and hospitals. Franklin Woods might be ok, dont know much about it.

Pardon the confusion. The docs at JC Internal are all good. I meant there are many docs in Johnson City who are quacks. I won't get into naming them, that only opens the door to a bunch of discord.

Should've obtained an attorney to pursue a lawsuit then under those circumstances. I would've.

Robert: I definitely would have either gotten a good lawyer or looked into this further to find out if your family is particularly susceptible to staph infections because of some genetic reason.

It's a bit worrisome, but I also know quite a few people who have had good experiences with JCMC, including some open heart surgeries that went perfectly fine.

I'm still leaning toward JC Internal Med, unless someone can give me a really good reason not to.

Well...looks like Laffingravy is an expert on all subjects. He must not work...all he does is read topix.

Honestly, almost any doctor in Johnson City that doesn't work for MHSA should be pretty good, which is 1% of the physicians in the area.

So what does working for MSHA have to do with the quality of a doctor? I would think it would have more to do with the doc's training as to what kind of a doc a person is. Maybe I am wrong. So Brian do you know ALL the docs that work for MSHA? If not then your statement seems a little prejudicial and immature to say the least.

For those of you who don't like the docs at MSHA, I'd love to hear the reason WHY rather than just see a heated statement based on zero evidence.

I already have a specialist who is associated with MSHA and JCMC and he and his nurses are quite excellent. I feel like the people at ETSU Family Physicians are just playing hot potato with me at this point, and I have never been 100% happy with the referrals to Wellmont (they're not BAD - the oral surgeon I saw from there was quite good - but the two cardiologists I saw there have no idea what to do with me and that's not ok).

Even the ETSU docs are saying I'll get better care in JC.*sigh* I hate having rare conditions. Why can't I just get sick once or twice a year like everyone else?

Anyway, I'd like to see some intelligently-worded and backed-up reasons for why ALL of the doctors associated with MSHA are bad. One bad experience with a medical facility does not make it a bad facility.

I'd like to know what exactly happened to everyone to make them hate MSHA so much! Specific examples would be awesome. I feel the same way (the vet thing) about where I am now. Maybe all healthcare is going down the toilet.

I dunno what has happened, but it must be pretty bad! The ONLY complaint so far that I personally have is the LONG wait time at the ER... Supposidly Franklin Woods was suppose to be helping lighten the load... Maybe it has, I dunno...

What I do know is one time I had to go to the ER & waited 3 1/2 hrs @ JCMC & never got past the waitingroom, so I packed myself & my daughter up after finally hearing more than I could handle from the first of the month, pill seeking, trashy ppl that were running in and out of there! I went to Franklin Woods & still had to sit another 2 hrs in their waiting room before being seen....

The last time I had to go to the ER for a dislocated knee... I sat, parked in a wheelchair in the waitingroom of FW for 6 hours before being seen... In the time I was there, I seen a lady come in with a compound fracture of her arm (bone protruding) who sat for at least 3 of those hours right next to me & a little boy who was all of, maybe 7 or 8 yrs old, who had clearly broken his wrist, whose mother told me she had been there for 2 hrs when I got there. It was another 2 hrs before he was taken back.

As for finding a new doctor... Look for doctors who are not from this area locally... do a little research... I have found that they are usually with MSHA because they have come from some other shitty hospital group that doesn't care about the patients. These DRs are trying to find a place to work where their ethics & the ethics of the group are in sinc... Unfortunately, unless they go into business for themselves, I doubt they ever find... They will just go from one group to the next, from contract to contract, etc.

I recommended Dr. Nick Smith earlier... He or his partner, Dr. Adam Lewis... they are both in the same building. The reason I know the above info about drs is because I know a few of those docs personally & these 2 DRs are extremely concerned with patient care... Dont take that to mean that they are DRs u can pull one over on though... If u are just seeking prescriptions... save ur time... and theirs...
