It is true she makes it no secret how she feels towards Leonard, McLain and Keith Ervin. She has made statement several times she wished Barnes was still on board because Hammond is too unpredictable.

When other people in central office have to do your work because you have not kept up with changes, you need to go home.

Only time will tell if school employees catch a glimpse of a rare sighting of the at risk counselor in schools over the next three years. Only time will tell whether Chad Williams gets a job with the school system. Only time will tell if any of the elderly in the central office finally retire. In the meantime keep your friends close and your enemies closer!

Pretty sure she's elated with you now David Hammond. You're right up there with Rowland and Dykes!

Instead of bashing Hammond on here call him. Why is he being singled out? He has been very productive in his short time on board. You put a man down because reaches out to work with everyone throwing petty politics and personal agendas out the window. Sounds like you want a robot you can control.

Bashing is not helpful to any situation. He made a choice. He isn't on the fence anymore. We can only hope he uses his new side and remember that the children should still be first. By the way, he had the opportunity to end the robot control. We are disappointed but more sad FOR him.

Hammond based his decision on the majority of teachers and based on his and Mr. Dykes efforts to partner churches and schools. Try visiting a church-might do you some good. As far as robot control and new side not sure what that means. He has always put children first and is very approachable. It sounds as you want a robot you can control. Why single out Hammond when the majority voted in favor.

There are nine board members. Six voted in favor. How could Hammond end "robot control"? There would still have been a majority and from article in JC Press Ervin would have voted for Dykes had contract been one year less.

The ones who didn't speak up at meeting should shut up now. McLain never said a word at meeting but sure did everywhere else.

Seems like a grudge against Hammond because the other five members are not being cursed for their vote. How sad these moral policemen on here are judging a man while sinners themselves.

Our school system is a fairly good one for the average kid. Unfortunately, the average kid is the only one they focus on, leaving the outliers to fend for themselves. I was surprised to find so many people who homeschool not because they want to, but because the schools just don't want to provide their kid with an appropriate education & so they have no choice but to provide it at home.

Here's a clue: if the smart people keep leaving in droves (as the district pushes homeschool as the solution to gifted education) then its a good sign you are headed in the wrong direction.

Last year my kid came home & answered how is day was by saying, "Oh, great. Apparently central office doesn't care about the teachers, the (school) office doesn't care about the central office, the parents don't care about the teachers, and the lawmakers don't care about anyone. We didn't have time to get to the kids or any learning today."

While its true you can't please everyone, it's a fact that our schools are so bogged down in politics & drama that the kids are paying the real price. The message that they are getting loud & clear is that helping them cram for TCAP standards (which is what they do now at school instead of learning) is a side function of the adults after paperwork & politics.

I don't know who is best for the job, but I do know that we can do better than being just good enough for average.

You know, sometimes it's better to have turnover just for fresh ideas. It doesn't have to mean that you are doing something wrong or bad, just that it's time for a new point of view. I don't know enough to say if that is the case here, but I do know that from top down, maintaining the status quo is the main goal of our school system.

I mean, geez. Look at all of these comments. There are tiny specks of relevancy, but maybe one adult has been able to say anything to explain their point of view in a reasonable way that would share ideas & further the growth of the schools. The rest is just meaningless crap. Blah blah blah blah about who I've known longer or blah blah blah about age or blah blah blah personal insult no solution given.

I would like to challenge anyone engaged in this topic to dig way deep & pull out any knowledge you have of intelligent debate skills (ex: no straw men, no slippery slope, no personal attacks--just facts & logical arguments) and critical thinking skills, and just try to have a productive conversation. If you can't do that, then learn how, THEN start voicing your opinion. Then maybe you can make the changes that you want happen.

This school system makes homeschooling seem like a good choice. There are too many problems and you are correct, it's the students who are paying the price!

University School is a Washington County School in name only. I'm thankful that decisions made concerning UH are made by ETSU. Only they do have Washington Co. Schools food service. Oh well they can't have everything!
