This is another hilarious East TN story! I so hope the AP picks it up! Maybe he could go one Letterman or Leno and tell us how he protected Mountain City! What a hoot!

Maybe theSquirrel was armed or had a Warrant and was a danger to others. Maybe it was Squirrel hunting season. The Squirrel should be on Jerry Springer.

Is this the same mental midget?? Does he use dial-up to get different computer locations, or what?

Remember how the slow one in the room never can let go of a certain line of thought when others are ready to go on and talk about something ELSE? Like the slow one in the room, there is a simple, child-like quality about this poster.

I am so glad that most of you, but not all of you have taken such an interest in belittling, and ridiculing me concerning this incident. I can surmise that most of you were not at Dollar General when this incident occurred. So mock me, make fun of me, and I am sure I will the brunt of several jokes. What I really don't appreciate is the suffering my children have endured due to tasteless comments concerning this. Yes I lost my job, a career that was unblemished for 20 years with no disciplinary action what so ever. I got a call that could very well been any other other officer working could have got, but it was me working not them. You all make fun of me because I am seeking the office of Sheriff, and that announcement was made public August 1st. I seek the office of Sheriff, not for the title, the prestige, of the power. I seek the office of Sheriff because I look at the shape our county is in. Our young kids do not need to grow up in fear, being exposed to drugs, violence, and other issues. So I guess it's easy to get on here and laugh, humiliate, and make fun of me. That's your choice. Most on here do not really even know me, who I am, nor what I stand for. I am very qualified to be Sheriff, and have the training to back it up. I am not finished yet, and if you truly knew the things I knew you would at least give me the benefit of a doubt. I believe everybody has the right to confront their accuser, and I would think you would as well. I was denied that right, was never allowed to explain the steps take or why. I was just thrown to the wolves. And the media helped, by reporting very inaccurate information. I stand my ground on issues that need addressed, but have been overlooked. So if you that want to post things that are cruel, inaccurate, about me. Think before you do it. People do have feeling, and they have children, family that have feelings as well. And no I will not back out of the race for Sheriff in 2014.

If you really are Jody Putnam -- and even if you're not but you have his ear -- you may as well start now putting out your version of the story. Talk and other gossip about the incident are going to linger all the way through the election.

This is an election, not a trial. Lawyerspeak like "The facts as presented at trial will show my client to be totally innocent" will not cut it.

PS: Why are you letting your children play on topix.net ?

I am Jody Putman, and my children do not look at topix nor do I except on this incident.,and you have what happen and the city knows what happened, but would allow it to run its course. I just posted this, and the people that know me that truly know me, are standing by me. And like others that post on this site, I do not care to put my name to this post unlike everybody else. Thank you for listening. Thank you Jody Putnam

I'm not so sure this post was made by Putnam.
If Putnam did make this post he misspelled his own last name twice. Most people don't misspell their own last name. I have noticed others misspelling his name.

you say you didn't have a chance to confront your accuser and have your say? Yet, you refused to go the the town hall meeting and stand up for yourself and and explain to them what happened. You also supposedly refused to fill out a report on the incident. care to explain those two things to us?
now, I do feel sorry for you losing your job. it was a dream job for you, I understand. I also feel sorry for your kids and family for taking some hits as well.
but, take a look back. not as yourself but as a bystander. a cop (whose is supposed to have good judgement even under times of extreme stress) is called to a store about a squirrel. this cop chases the squirrel around, uses mace in an enclosed area (which causes innocent bystanders to vacate the store choking, gasping for air etc etc.) only to end up shooting this squirrel. Then refuses to fill out paper work explaining why all this happened and then refused to explain the situation in person.
why did this cop make it so much harder than it need to be? he could have conversed with the personnel in the store to corner and trap the squirrel and get it outside.
That to me shows a lack of good judgement and responsibility for ones action. I understand why the city would let someone like this go. I for one expect much more out of public servants... not just cops.
now, for your chances for winning Sheriff next year... after this I serious doubt you will win. This is going to follow you for a long time. after all it is on your record now. but, I do wish you luck in the race.

This is the post that I responded to. I said that its Jody did make that post that he misspelled his own name. As everyone can see, the user name is spelled "Jody Putman". The poster said "I am Jody Putman". I said Jody's last name is Putnam, not Putman.

If one can be registered to vote in more than one county then I am wrong because I thought I could only vote in the county where I'm registered to vote.
Ah, I thought someone had said he was running for carter county sheriff...my mistake. But I would still be curious why he thought his actions were appropriate that day.

For the last time my last name is PUTNAM, and as for the town hall meeting, I was instructed by city government officals that the incident was not on the agenda to be heard that night, and this was by more than one official. That is why I was not there. And if they had followed the policy and procedure manual every single day the way it is supposed to be followed, this would have been cleared. You can not lay it on a shelf until a conflict arises, then take it down, blow the dust off the cover, and look at it for reasons to take action. I am not stupid as on poster stated, and as a matter of fact I hold 10 years of administration inside law enforcement throughout my career, and know proper implication of policy, procedure, and discipline. I know I am wasting my breath trying to explaing issues to all of you, due to your comments, but feeling sorry for my kids, yes I am divorced, but I also raise my kids. So leave my kids out of it. Come at me all you want, but you better back up and punt when it comes to my kids. You would not appreciate me discussing your kids, and I appreciate the same in turn. For they naysayer, liars, and the ones who don't care about anything but gossiping, and putting me down. I will be seeing you in court. You all have a nice day.
