Wasteful Washington County School Board

How about the latest stunt of creating two full time positions paying $48,000.oo a year each. The WCDE has employed 2 full time athletic directors. With the economy as it is and teachers not recieving raises this year we took 2 part time positions and made them full time when the position only merits part-time. But the real injustice is a sitting school board member was hired-he since has resigned(so it doesnt smell as bad except for he has no college education whatsoever. I guess many of the teachers and coaches feel betrayed or just plain silly they have gone to the trouble of bachelors and masters degrees making less than the new uneducated director. All they have to do is get appointed by a tax and spend commission. Wait a minute is this not the same group that overlooked 1.8 million dollars in the 08-09 budget? What a message this sends to our kids about furthering their educations. Way to go voters lets keep sending the selfserving in while we motgage our future.

The Washington County School Board did not hire the athletic directors or the other positions. Only the director can create and hire these positions. In the state of TN the director has full authority to hire and fire. Some are being mislead by rumors!!

I agree with Stunned. This is crazy, if you are going to hire an athletic director at least get someone who has the education and experience to do the job. Not so good old boy member of the board that is too lazy to work for a living. Oh, he is the pa announcer at Boone. Guess that means he knows all about atheltics.

They pay $48,000 in Washington County for an athletic director with no previous education? Damn, makes my masters degree that will start me out at $36,500 seem like a waste. I need to start watching sports on tv so I can come apply for the "bread and butter" positions!

I thought the school board employes suspose to work 8 hr a day but evendetly not. they hide their van behind their house 2-3 days a week an slip out about time to go and end their work day, ask dallas hardin!

After reading JC Press article about Danny Goods unethical self-serving hiring I can now say Ron Dykes has been drinking Grant Rowlands kool-aid. Not only did he pull a Rowland stunt he lied sayin g position would pay for itself-this retired accounting teacher is not stupid. By the way thinks for the slap in the face to teachers who took time toget a college degree by hiring Good who is not degreed and for not giving teachers raises they deserve.

The new Washington County Grounds Supervisor doubled his salary coming from Bristol doing the same job.(Is this true? How can I find out?) Another point: teachers in Washington County make about $10,000 less than Bristol teachers. Wow! Discussion about our System's priorities seems to be coming up a lot lately. As a parent, I would like to know where ALL the board members stand to help me decide how to vote. I would also like to know which decisions board members make and which ones the director makes. I will be asking around. Please post any new information to help us.

Any citizen is allowed to call the School Board and ask for salary information. The board is suppose to make policy decision for the school system. However, most of the current school board members have self-serving agendas that they want to be accomplihed. As far as the director goes, he does the hiring and firing and runs the day to day functions of the school system. Basically the board makes the policy and the director enforces it. Now, the recent hiring of Danny Good, which has caused a community uproar,was done so by the director. The big deal with hiring Danny is the fact that he is undereducated and he helped vote in the athletic director position when he was a board member. This is a huge ethical problem as well as conflict of interest.

What Danny Good did was illegal and he did it with the help of Clarence Mabe and the other limp[wristed sissys.

Remember who helped get Good this job at election time. Cause you can bet the Danny Good could care less what anyone thinks, now that he has his job. Even if it was by illegal means. This is one of the worst case "good ol boy" jobs I've seen in a while.

I am wondering how many people in the Washington County community know of the Danny Good hiring? Also, have any of you read the editorial from Sunday's Johnson City Press discussing Good's hiring and grounds crew salaries? The article is full of information. I am deeply saddened that this hiring took place and I hope the community continues to get involved.

It is totallly amazing that someone would defend the unethical and the possible illegal act of hiring Danny Good. In today's paper, it looks like Good's old coach is defending him. It is blantantly obvious that the hiring of Danny Good was a BAD judgement call for whoever hired him. I don't really know who does all the hiring in Wasington County, but surely they knew what this would cause by hiring someone that was on the board. In all my years, I can't think of anything else that is blatantly a conflict of interest. It is troubling that the people who work in that school system let stuff like this go on.

Former Board Member John Conley was not only wimpy joke who kissed Grant Rowlands a** for years was a hypocritical liar. He was being found out for the stupid suck up ways he did his job. Remember when The board was voting on Ron Dykes as director,Conley voted not to hire Dykes. After the vote and Dykes rec'd majority votes the spineless Conley ask that his vote be changed. He stated he wanted Dykes to know he did support his hiring--what a dumbass to do such a thing and make such an ignorant statement. These are our leaders and we wonder why we overspent on school buildings and we wonder how our board overlooked 1.8 million dollars?
