Estimated. For a handfull of jobs, a million dollar a year in scholarships. and of course a new stadium, the new President thinks it's fine to mortgage the students, if not the entire, University future. He also said in 10-15 years we'll know it was the right decision.

I agree. What a waste this is. Of course, if you are just spending the taxpayers money and putting the financial burden on the students, then you can waste all the money you want with no fear of accountability. By the time it is deemed a failure, the administration will have moved on.

The Board of Regents has to approve the student fee increase of $125 per semester. If a student attends year round that's $375 per year.

The article invokes the name of Phil Fulmer. If he would commit I would support it. But who really thinks he will take the job. He would expect a giant salary but could generate the interest, revenue, and athletes. In addition some of the NFL players he coached might follow him i.e. credibility.

Here are some facts: 1) Phil Fulmer is NOT going to coach at ETSU, 2) If they do revive football it will be just like before, they will ignore good local players and go to Georgia and Florida to recruit, 3) they will still get their clocks cleaned by much smaller schools.

So the Press is simply blowing smoke when they mention Fulmer's support? If I was a betting man I'd bet you're correct. What's worse is some of the players they recruited in the past were practically a crime spree on their own.

I just watched the interview on WJHL with Athletic Director
Dr. Richard Sander regarding the retirement of the Lady Bucs
basketball coach. For someone who was sold to the University as a seasoned athletic director I was thoroughly unimpressed. He didn't seem able to speak in complete sentences or maintain a train of thought. He said he had not expected her retirement.(One of the few things he said during the interview that made a modicum of sense)

She really didn't offer a lot of explanation as to why she was retiring and now. Not even the cursory spend more time with my family. Just speculating but it seemed like something happened that made her realize I better get out of here and fast.

I'll be frank. He seemed like a complete idiot. I'll extend the thought.(This is all just an opinion by the way) This is gonna be bad folks. Really bad. They are gonna rob the department, and the team, and the school blind. It will start with the $5 million needed to build the team, the new stadium, cost overuns, cozy equipment deals, kickbacks, you name it. They might even steal the fixtures when it's all said and done.

I feel foolish for thinking that perhaps Fulmer was even remotely ecpecting to get involved in this slow motion boondoggle.

It will end up just like before. Private housng for the players so the partys and "Ho's" won't case complaints. Lawyers provied for the players when they mess up, by Boosters. Players never show up for classes or never show up for test days.
Total waste of money. Why do you think Stanton did away with it, and he has proven to be one of the best Presidents ETSU ever had.

Wow, you hit the nail right on the head...exactly!!!
They are going to revive it no matter what anybody thinks at this point..it will be a big failure..period. Some of you might not like it, but it will happen this way..you have been told. Go ahead and ignore it..doesn't make it any less true.

I think it's going to be hard for the University to make up the $2m a year budget difference that the student fee won't cover. There is no way merchandise and ticket sales are going to make up for that so what is left for the university to do? Cut the budget for academics and student support services or increase the student fee? I think the way it wasn't brought up for a popular vote left a bad taste in a lot of the mouth's of a lot of potential fans. I hope it succeeds but it's going to be an uphill climb

i agree on that been going to watch them play for a long time now and I have never seen such bad coaching in all my life. I really think that a kid could do better then the staff they have there now. The HEAD COACH if you want to call him that just walks around and does nothing at all. He turns his back on them when they need him to pick them up. I have wanted my little girl to play there but if this is what the coaches are like then I NEVER would want her to play for them..

IMO, ETSU President Noland is wanting these new construction projects and athletic department programs to pad his resume before he moves on elsewhere --- he seems like the Baptist prosperity preacher who builds a huge addition onto a church and later realizes that the church members cannot afford to heat it (much alone to pay for it), and then hears a missionary call to leave everyone behind to deal with the mess.

Both the Johnson City Press and WJHL owners are probably loving this as well and cannot wait for the future opportunities to sale advertising promoting the ETSU football time --- not that all of this local advertising will befit Johnson City residents (as this ETSU football advertising that both the Press and WJHL will be sold sales tax free)...

I am also thinking that you will have some of the major local construction companies and building trades contractors will glad to rip some more hide off of the backs of ETSU students by obtaining the construct and service the new athletic department facilities that will needed to support the ETSU football team.

The Board of Regents should sell the S. Roan Street manision that the taxpayers are keeping up for the ETSU President to live in lap of luxury while not paying property taxes.

Why not build and fund a ETSU college of engineering and stop catering to a bunch of football crazed retards who, after the Buc football program is up, will still be booze cruising on the interstate to Knoxville in order to watch the Vols play in Neyland Stadium?
