My husband has been an employee there since 1990. We have great insurance benefits, he has all holidays off and paid. When he first got the job there i will admit to you it was tough, but i can't think of anywhere else that has the quality of insurance that they offer for such a reasonable price. this day and time, a job like that just isn't found anywhere.

Very well said and I agree 100%. After 30+ years with a company that sold out and went cheap, as many are doing now, I finally got hired at AWH. I went thru the usual fly by night jobs......(Douglas Dynamics being the worst) and consider myself lucky to be employed at AWH. You just can't beat the benefits. The work is hard, but it pays off well. I heard all the horror stories before I was hired and must admit, back long ago it was a sweatshop, but as time has gone by, it ain't so bad. If you are a lardass, you won't be long working there! Just kidding, but you will work an honest day's work for an honest day's pay. Heck, I lost almost 30 pounds of unneeded fat since I went to work there! They are a good outfit, so says me.

I'm glad you are there. Like I said, there are quite a few women working there, but mostly in assembly, and you don't want to go there! Just kidding, it all depends on the job you wind up on. On the humorous side, I gotta say some of the women there could pass for males and vice versa. It's not a place for divas. I really hope you make it there and don't feel bad if you don't. It is all matter of being at the right place at the right time. If they need permanent workers and you are there when, just hang in there and do what they tell ya and don't miss a lot of work.
AWH frowns heavily on absence. Good luck!

Heading to second shift Monday evening. No idea which area or who I'll be working for. It's like starting all over again. There were 6 people who came in with me but only 2 of us left. I'm hanging in there.

Been on 2nd shift a week and feeling lost in the place. Been doing a few jobs and not really gotten placed anywhere permanent yet, still on tank side. Kind of like a skeleton crew on this shift compared to days. Wish they'd put me on assembly side, at least there's more people there.

Adecco in JC said after 90 days you're either hired or let go. Is this true?

What jobs a on the tank side? I start Monday and would like to know. I'm a hard worker but a little worried. I heard there is a good side and a bad side at AWH. Is the tank the bad side?

Just my opinion, but I prefer tank over assembly. While both are fast paced, assembly is a bit more like a bunch of people fighting a fire, too busy to explain things and not helpful. You will probably be a process worker in tank, and that covers a lot of different jobs. Most of these jobs are physically challenging at first, but you will eventually get used to it. It really helps if you just hang in and go with it.

Worked for this place for a little while, keeping your job in a certain department has a lot to do with how well you kiss ass to a certain female (Shift Leader) who has worked there all her life out of High School now at 60ish she is bitter that she did not accomplish much in her life ,and another leader that has worked there for many years and has an Anger Management issue. And an apparent choking fetish of the younger male employees working there? So if you get in that department pucker up if you want to keep your job. They have a strict no cell-phone policy that 90% of the employees disregard anyways but if they dont like you they will use it against you to get rid of you. They fired a person for missing four days (he went to a funeral in a different state) family member passed away he came back and was immediately fired. My experience is that with any work place there are cool people and there are those that have nothing better to do than cause drama and problems in this department (mainly the older people) who are maybe threatened by the younger people that are coming in? The main Supervisor of the evening shift seems like a stand up guy no issues with him but i think he should grow a pair , if one of the team leaders go to him with reports of an employee breaking company policy's he should confront the employee with whatever the accusations are determine if the accusations are founded or not and not take the word of a bitter woman and someone with anger management issues , as in any organization being with a company for such along time may lead to some corrupt employees!

If the supervisors like you and you are flexible on jobs, you will get hired. If not, forget it. There have been many that just blended in with the crowd, did a good job, and then have been let go. Remember they don't need a reason to do that. You have to get along with everyone if you want a job there even the higher ups. Don't be pushy or act like you know it all when you get in there or the workers will put you in your place very quickly. Most have been there for years and feel it is their entitlement. Doesn't make it right, that's just the way it is. It is hard to get people to talk to you but after awhile it will happen. The noise factor doesn't help any. It's very loud when the lines are running.

Tank side team leaders are a joke. Stand/sit around all night and get paid to watch everyone else work. Not to mention two of them are a**holes. Must be a requirement for that job title. Day shift is a whole other story.

<quoted text>Yep, plenty of females and a culturally diverse work group there. All in all, most everybody gets along well. Keep in mind though, it's not a company that will put up with petty stuff..........either you work or get canned, no drama allowed. I wish you good luck, but keep in mind, it all hinges on whether they need permanent employees at the time. The turnover is quite high there, being that many are retiring or getting fired for being foolish. If by chance you do your time as a temp and get on the list for permanent, don't fail the "IQ Test". Meaning, stay clean, because you can expect at least 3 drug tests during your probationary period. Good luck, and I hope you don't wind up in assembly! Just kidding, but assembly is quick paced and very challenging. Best bet is to try to get hired into the "Tank" side of the company. Good luck!
hahaha whats so great about black tank,,, i worked on assembly for 2 years and left because of the drama,,but this was in 95, i did all the jobs on the lower end of assembly and its alot cleaner,,and you have to be fast,, i used to do all reworks,,valves, foam machine,, top screws,, both box jobs,, stapling,, and pulling off at the end of line,,wish i wouldnt have left but cant change the past,, i would train people and they would be gone by break time hahaahahaah!!

Maybe you were one of those employees too busy covering your own ass to train someone correctly. As for how you got involved in the drama, that's your fault.

hahaha well it dont take a rocket scientist to do the jobs on that line,, most people were just lazy ,, if you cant put a bag on a water heater or throw a box over top of a heater they must be ignorant they are no jobs that require knowledge my kid could train people,, i was a lead person and let people go to bathroom and help people when they got behind and helped everyone else down the line so they didnt get behind either !! for the drama i was talking and joking around with someone and they told this bitch what i said and she went to the office and made a big deal out something i was joking about to another employee,, she was mad i wasnt banging her old ass too like i was her friend and 2 other women on the line !! lifes a bitch,, guess thats what happen with the drama,,
