My aunt has been there for three months. They're gonna kill her. We are looking as hard as we can to get her out. Here's the problem. THE GD LAWMAKERS ARE IN BED WITH THE NURSING HOME CORPORATIONS. PERIOD !!! Go look at the campaign contributions. WAKE UP. NHC is owned by a company that owns 160 of them... It's not the employees fault. The nurses are THE ONLY ONES WHO care. The administrators are hired henchmen there to protect themselves from legal matters, period. The nurses are HORRIBLY UNDERSTAFFED and UNDERPAID. And the senators (good Christians ) protect them in every way. They even put limits on lawsuits against them......in kingsport, the staff was so bad that they fired three of them (they have to be real bad to get fired). So what did Tony Shipley do? Dd he go there to protect the elderly. HELL NO ! He went there and threatened them and made them hire them back right away. Admitting that three nurses had neglected the elderly would look bad on who SHIPLEY WORKS FOR. He works for the corporation, not the people. But then again, according to republicans, corporations are people too......IT'S SICKENING.

They are mean to my Aunt and she has cried several times. Bed sores and almost zero for physical therapy. The head of the physical therapy dept is just about the rudest woman in the state. ONCE AGAIN. I DO NOT BLAME THE NURSES. THERE'S SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH OF THEM. ALL THE MONEY IS GOING TO THE TOP FOLKS, AND YOU PEOPLE JUST KEEP VOTING FOR CORPORATIONS INSTEAD OF YOUR FELLOWS. IT'S IN THE BIBLE. YOU'RE DECEIVED. CORPORATIONS ARE KILLING YOUR KIN. KEEP VOTING REPUBLICANS AND USHER IN SATAN.

I read the whole post. It's sad. And it's also VERY true...... The bible say that in the end, we won't even be able to trade with each other without first paying the "beast".... WHAY can't we as a community put together some $10,000,000 that doesn't have some CEO at the top trumping to cut corners and costs and people and nurses and equipment. Lets say he's just a good salaried individual who cares about getting the best care to our loved ones?

WHy can't we do that? Hek, medicare will cover the operating costs and even make profits to improve things..... What can't we do it?

Simple ...because of Tennessee lawmakers who are in bed with corporations and Satan. We can no longer even just get together and help each other.

A person at NHC, an invalid, can ring a help button and it might take a nurse over an hour to get there. People, they might not come at all. And it's not the nurses fault. Nurses isn't money and the FEO at the top who makes exactly $4,210,000 needs that money. How does he earn that kind of money? Back cutting back in every conceivable way that he can on your loved ones care. Now those are the facts.

So ignore these truths and go combat things like gay Marraige and global warming. Old people don't matter. Money does.

I'm assuming you are referring to the one in Bristol, not Johnson City. I work at the one in Johnson City and we take wonderful care of our residents. Our patient to CNA ratio is never more than 9:1 for skilled. Try going to lifecare where the ratio is 16:1.

Also, in Johnson City our head of physical therapy is a man, not a woman.

To the person above me, regarding the call light issue, we get written up if a call light stays on for longer than 5 minutes.

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience, but I will defend the company I work for because it is easily the best one in the area.

Are you kidding me? The employees there are horrible for the most part. CNAs that sit in residents' rooms using the resident's phone, or are on a Blue Tooth the entire time they are working. How about bringing an Xbox in and hooking that up in a resident's room to play all night? Residents falling in the floor and the CNA picking them up and putting them back in bed without telling the nurse. Not to mention that they hire (on two occasions that I know of) nurses that have substance abuse and diversion issues. I could go on and on. I wouldn't leave my enemy at NHC in Johnson City.

Every place has it's issues and weak links, but I can say with confidence that NHC has the best CNA's in the Tri Cities area. We have had NO FALLS since last year and NO bed sores since last year either. Go online and look at state survey and compare to others in the area. You are just spewing out words with no backup, I am giving facts that can be proven.

You said it buddy. You told the truth. It's horrible. Just go there. You walk righ thru the from door pay pressing a red button. You can walk in, and walk completely thru the place and nobody will even ask you who you are....you can smell, piss as soon as you open the door. Now, I have to to say this. Not all of them are bad. Some of the folks really try and really care, but remember this.,if you're working and 70% of the folks don't care? In time, you won't either...it catches on.....well, it's caught one...it's a hell hole...

They don't even roll the patients to keep them from getting bed sores

Like every other place, there's both good an bad. You learn as you go. Until you have a family member sick and you're COMPLETELY involved, you have no idea. I didn't.

My dad is in NHC and has been since March 4. He has brought over from Duke in an ambulance and they got there about 30 minutes before us. My dad is 80 and he was scared to death. When we walked in, a nurse named APRIL had him sitting up laughing and joking and flipping thru the TV channels and teasing......it brought tears to my eyes. It was the first smile I had seen from my dad in over a week. If I'd have had a $million$ I would have gave it to her.

And she has a sidekick that she kinda works and teases with and I forgot his name, but he came in and made us all feel welcome and comforted. THAT STUFF MEANS MORE THAN THE ACTUAL TREATMENTS. And it's sincere, too. You know the difference.

It doesn't take 10 minutes to tell that they are understaffed. I agree that our lawmakers ate crooks and couldn't care less about old folks or nurses. A nurse at NHC works a 12 hour shift taking care of something like 13 invalids, wheel chair people, and people who's minds aren't right. Did you know the the lawmakers work for the corporation that own NHC. They have 160 of these facilities. They own Ron Ramsey and Matthew Hill. They have made sure that THERE IS NO LAW AGAINST HAVING ONE NURSE TAKING CARE OF 100 patients? And if the nurse can't do it, she gets fired? And that nurse that gets fired, can't even get unemployment? I hope Ron Ramsey ends up in a nursing home that is horribly understaffed one day. JUSTICE?

I want to dedicate a small paragraph about another nurse. She is from Jamaica. Her name is something like Patrico. Dad and I love her the most and that's saying a lot. She came in the other day, put a nylon pad under dad, lofted him on a hoist and took and gave him a shower.(Dad had a bowel movement in the hoist).... She got him all cleaned up , dried off brought back to the bed, kept dad smiling and reassured and comforted. It's difficult to do with a complete invalid. I was disappointed that many came into the room and never offered to assist her. But she was so gentle and so caring and so professional. And dad mentioned that aside from the Bowel movement, it was the most comfortable shower ever given.

Well, they can't help dad anymore because he's in too bad a shape. We're bringing him home. We asked dad, "Out of all the nurses that he has had in 5 hospitals spread out over three states for 3 months, who would he want to come to the house to help us care for him?" And dad said Patrico.

And I said "why not April?"

And he said. "because the patience need her there too much"

And I said " but they need Patrico too"

And he said "not as much as I do"

I too, hate the corporation part of it all. It's shameful what they allow the money machine to do. I think the lawmakers stink and I have a deep appreciation for nurses that I never had before.

Your dad must be on Station 1 :) April and Patrina are both wonderful CNAs. Patrina is never seen without a smile on her face and will boost everyone's spirits if they are having a rough day!

We have something called a pep card. if you are happy, please fill one out for them. It just takes a second and its so great to receive them. It makes you feel a little more appreciated in a job where you usually only hear the negatives :)

PEP Card. I saw them yesterday when I didn't have a pen. You can be assured that each of these two wonderful human beings will be noted with PEP cards and I will find out the name of the male nurse that April kinda works with. Real people helping real people sometimes against impossible odds.

I hate corporations and if you ever have a loved one Ina nursing home, you will hate them too.

Listen, we need help here fast. What is the name of the person that mom needs to see about THE EQUIPMENT THAT WE NEED AT HOME. I MEAN I CAN COME UP WITH THE ACTUAL MODEL PES AND STUFF AND OF COURSE WE HAVE A DOCTOR THAT WILL WRITE THE PRESCRIPTIONS FOR THE EQUIPMENT. BUT IS THERE A STORE THAT WE CAN GO TO (medicare approved) that we can go to to look at the equipment.....hospital beds and invalid hoists/lifts ?????? Any help would be great

I believe the guy is Steve. Kind of tall, dark hair? They help each other a lot.

As far as equipment goes, I would speak with Mary in social services. Surely she can point you in the right direction!

Per your info I filled out one of the PEP cards and then I wrote a letter to the head guy. I called and got his name. Scott Slemmer. I told him all about April Dow and Patrina Cradic. I bet they never get a better letter than I wrote. When you have someone that you love so dearly treated with such kindness in a world full of shif, it does something for you.

I hate corporations. They have and are ruining America and they have us so divided that we cannot even care for each other unless WE PAY THEM FIRST. And if we don't stick together, the top 1% of this country are going to have every cent and ALL the power. It's in revelation.

Neither of these women are fanatics, but the Love of Christ enters a room when they do. Somewhere at the top of this 160 facility corporation is a CEO taking home 100 times more money that April Dow takes home and he couldn't give two hoots if dad lives or dies. That CEO puts money into our local lawmakers pockets like Ron Ramsey who makes it legal to hand as many as 24 elderly patients over to Patrina Cradic in one 12 hour shift.

They're billing us for killing us and where I really lose hope is that WE ALLOW IT. The care gets worse because those at the bottom are overworked and the rich get richer because they buy the little Ron Ramseys to protect them.

Listen folks, we could put together 10 million dollars overnight and have a nursing home that gave twice the quality at half the price. NO CEO. Non-profit....... Guess what? That's when Ramsey would start talking about Government regulations. He'd shut it down. He'd be ordered to. The bible says to care for the elderly. Ramsey calls that communism.

I've said enough. Thanks to these two wonderful women. karma to Ron Ramsey

My precious grandmother 89 died in the hands of NHC in Johnson City after being transported for rehab. She said that her call bell was often ignored leaving her no choice but to use the bed. This was bad enough. She had the hardest fall that she had ever endured being assisted by an aid there. She was there for rehab because of a bad fall and they let her fall again. Well this made her even weaker than before. She was doing well with her therapy and was looking forward to going back home. One morning she was eating her breakfast as she often did, got strangled on something she was eating, threw it up, asperaded it back into her lungs and collapsed. A nurse claims she was in the room at the time and IF she was, why wasn't something done? Do the nurses at NHC just stand back and do nothing when they see a patient dying? There is no doubt in my mind that if my Grandmother hadn't been sent to that death chamber, she would still be alive. If you cherish your loved ones, AVOID this place if you don't want to see them next in a funeral home!!!!!!!!!!

I'm terribly sorry to hear about your grandmother. I'm very sorry for how you must feel. My GOD, the corporations won't even let us care for our elderly without them first making TONS of money. NHC has 160 locations, makes TONS of money and it ALL goes to the top, where they pay off the state senators (RON RAMSEY) and the biggest thug of all Tony Shipley. Listen. A nursing home on Kingsport tried to fire 3 nurses for something, I really don't know what. Neglect, I think. Then tony Shipley , who gets money from the CORPORATE NURSING HOME INDUSTRY went racing down there and threatened the staff to hire them back. Wy? Because his bosses (the corporation) could be sued. Now look folks. We have allowed our politicians in this state to be bought out. Now they want to put a cap on what you can sue a nursing home for. And they hide behind the motive of this : well, if we kelp allowing these FRIVILOUS lawsuits it will just drive up the cost of caring for our elderly....BULLSHIT. Te nursing homes are already taking their homes and every other asset. Hell, they won't even let us build our own (LIKE A COOP?). Fat would be communism. If it isn't packing some CEOs pocket full of money it isn't American. Well this guys grandmother is dead and that CEO should pay a million bucks and possibly go to jail. Sorry agin for your grandma. Seriously !!!

That whole company is corrupt as hell, they were fined 27 million dollars for frauding medi-care in 1994 and blamed it all on their nurses inability to do basic math, what bullshit. They took forever to pay the fine, over 10 years, someone should have went to jail, but of course no one did. They had to sell all their homes in Florida because no one would insure them. check out NHC vs. Florida for the court paper.

It's a shame. Health care for profit has taken over good moral character. It is no secret that many nursing homes employ the bottom of the barrel staff, underpay them and turn a blind eye to a lack of care. Unless you can spend 24 hours a day to watch over your loved one there, they will be ignored, nurses may steal their meds, and they may be mistreated and degraded. I know this from experience. Ever notice the smell of deeply infused urine at these body farms? That's because the workers don't have the time to do their job,or know they don't have to. I'm not saying all the workers are slackers, but to keep their jobs, they play the game. Corporate greed vs: human rights.
