Commissioner Ferguson continues to show his ignorance and grandstands at meetings but every time he opens his mouth he shows how ignorant of the facts he is and how disrespectful he is to our Mayor, commission and citizens. He needs to be reminded how close his and Sparks election was and how the County Dan Mayors race was not even close. The Mayor is first class and successful. Do citizens want to listen and trust mediocre businessmen or successful millionaire who started from nothing and is as successful in his personal life as his business life. Have fun now Ferguson because you are through in politics.

Ferguson questioned expenses he played a part in the planning of-how stupid is that? The mayor was able to explain everything. As far as the mayor being power hungry you have to be mistaken. Eldrige ran for Mayor to get our county under some kind of financial stability not for power or insurance that would be Ferguson. You have to keep in mind on our earth money is power and Eldridge has more money than Ferguson and other commissioners combined. But Eldridge is not spiteful or low class like Ferguson because he has a higher power by his side -GOD. Bottom line Dan has much support in county and he can buy and sell the former used car salesman.

You must be a relative of the Mayor, because you are also speaking out of both sides of your mouth. "Oh we know GOD, but We can buy and sell people just like that lowly used car salesman", because you believe you are better than those UNDER you...Hmmmm. If the Mayor has soo much money why is it that he receives a Washington County paycheck, even though he said during his campaign that he wouldn't? As far as explaining, I haven't heard him really explain anything, he just talks and says things to try and confuse the real question. Why is it the county commission had to get a court order to see the budget? Sounds like he is trying to work with people, NOT! Sounds more like he is trying to Force his will on those who won't bow down to the all mighty Airbag Mayor!!

The mayor will have one less vote and one less yard sign in his next election, I promise you that. He is a simple-minded bean counter, brainlessly cutting budgets without any regard for the resulting effect. Yes, there is money to be cut in county government, but the mayor hasn't targeted it. The eliminated payment to the JCFD is a prime example of stupidity on his part -- that money helps compensate Johnson City for helping to respond to any fire emergency at the county schools and for training for the county volunteer fire departments. But Eldridge just cuts it without bothering to find out it's actually a good deal for the county. So this is what running county government as a business really does for us -- let the kids burn up and save $100,000!

By law, the mayor was supposed to have a budget together months ago, and he didn't. He held it back until the last second so that he could cram it down the commission's throat. You won't read that in the paper, but that's the truth. I find it reprehensible that he would attempt such a thing. He wants to run county government as some omnipotent dictator without considering other people's viewpoints. But that's ok -- he has God on his side, after all!

Government canít be ran like a business or it would start at the White House. Weíd have a C. E. O. of the United States instead of a President. Point being if this concept would work then we, the people would have it established. You canít take someone who stumbled into money and think he can be successful in government. Businesses sometime get lucky. The Government is an established body that believe it or not works, sometimes later rather than sooner. If you have a business man in government all he can do is cut the employees because they canít cut services. When you cut employees then professionals leave and you get a lower standard of employee. Example: I have nothing against these quick oil change places but if youíre going to let someone work on your $30,000 car wouldnít you rather have a certified technician on the product who solely works on your product. Letís say yes. So donít be fooled by someone who you think cares about your interest. All the Mayor cares about is the bottom line =$$$$. We need someone that thinks outside the box, proven and can attract attention from the State and Federal bodies along with the private sector. Thatís why I voted Don Arnold and I still stand by that vote! PS, Mark isnít a bad Commissioner and brings a lot to the table.

Seems to me that Ferguson didn't understand the true impact his proposed budget would have. The county would retain the downtown center that the Johnson City Development Authority would buy and in return keep a vacant building in the county's control. So more tax dollars go to keep the building up and NE State doesn't come downtown.... Doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

You are thinking like a moron!!!!!!!!!!Selling the building means the county can collect taxes on it. Ask Eldridge why he created a position for a PR person, pay him $50,000 a yr and then have the nerve to ask for a $40,000 a yr raise for him?

Did not know about this site. I am trying to find my county comissioners Mark Fergusons phone number. I came across this site.
For the record you can run government like a business and Dan is a solid Christian and very successful business man. If our commisioners would work with him he could get Washington county back on track.

Why don't you run for a County Commission seat since you seem to know so much about county politics and economics. You also are doing a lot of bashing to a civil servant, so what do you do exactly to enrich this community????? Enlighten us to what benefits this county gets from having you as a citizen?

I was of the undrstanding that Mark Ferguson was supposed to represent parts of Jonesborough.... Now he says he is for the citizens of Washington County.... Dear Mark, we pay town and county tax and the service provided by Washington County is supposed to be shared across the county --- towns and out of town areas.

You obviously do not represent the Jonesborough community ...

By the way... Maybe you believe the county highway department should finsih one project before they start another... So when is the county owned property committee going to finish the pigeon problem; When is the county owned property committee going to stop wasting space- renting a prime store front on US11E to store voting materials; when is the county owned property committee going to clean up the junk yard on Boones Creek Rd that the sheriff's department has stored over 200 stripped down vehicles of all sorts; when is the county owned property committee going to do their job... Oh yes, the self appointed chair of the committee on committee has selected his insurance grabing, fee hungry commissioners.
Maybe the county commission can add another 20 county commissioners to their forum so the county can double their expenses to support these freeloaders.....
