How much do LPNs make in JC?

I'm a PN student and getting ready to graduate in the next couple months and the reality is setting in on how much I will make. I know that LPNs only attend school for a year and shouldn't expect much but the responsibility is so high I'm a little scared to take less than $18 an hour fresh out of school. I don't want to seem ungrateful but when all the responsibility falls on me and my license I'd like it to be worth it. So my question is how much do local LPNs make in various facilities and where?

I'm also concerned because I want to finish my bachelors and pay for school.

Thanks in advance,

Nursing salary is based upon experience. New grads usually start 14-15 an hour. With 5 years experience it's 18.50-20 in Johnson city. You get paid more in a nursing home or private duty nursing. Elk valley health services treat northeast tn and they have a flat pay rate of 17hr for regular cases (usually pediatric) and then 19hr for ventilator cases.

The nursing home I work at that's so called prestigious starts LPNs out at $15 is that fair for LTC in this area?

And, private duty is sounding sweet!

Consider yourselves all very lucky. The average starting pay for an LPN fresh out of school is only $10-$12 an hour in most places. If you get $15 or higher fresh out of school, you better jump all over it. Been at the VA for five years with ten years experience and only make $19. The lowest pay is doctor's offices and the best is usually in nursing homes. Hospitals are drifting away from LPNs all together eventually. Take what you can get.

Could just be me, but wouldn't it have been prudent to looked into that BEFORE you went into training ?

Money is important but the most difficult aspect of your future employment will be coworkers. Nurses eat their young. Do not go into your new job with a know it all attitude and try to help the veteran nurses as much as possible otherwise you will be eaten by them. I have seen many new nurses quit and choose another profession.

I know very well I am unprepared and have so much to learn from veteran nurses and patients. Everyday I will learn a vast amount of knowledge. I don't plan on coming in with a know it all attitude it doesn't get you far. The nurses I work with at work are very kind and patient and have respect for me because I do my job very well. I don't find it very professional to go out of your way to make life hard for a novice. The medical field is always changing therefore we should always be acceptable of change including welcoming new nurses.
