New Park & Rec director

It is absolutely ridiculous that our city "leaders" thought they had to go outside the current staff to hire the new director. They have a man there, James Ellis, that has given his life to the P&R and was down to the final 3 but was bypassed. Why not hire someone that has worked for the city for 30 years that actually cares about what happens here. It amazes me that these stupid city leaders think they have to hire someone from away from here. Just like the Boys Club that thought the same thing, the city will reap what they sow. Shame on you Pete Peterson and the rest.

Agree. The Park and Rec and has a lot of good leaders already working for them. Not sure who did or didn't put in the for position but the city should have hired from within.

Peterson done what he thought was right I get tired of driving down the road and seeing the city workers standing around 1 working and 6 standing we need change in the city and if going outside Johnson City is what it takes I'm all for it we all want the best person for the job but we are not wanting to look outside the region to get it lol wake up a change is coming and I'm all for it maybe the people who do the real work will finally get some pats on the back for what they do (Herb Greenlee Bart Lyon Tamara Foster Linda Guess Robin Demona) these people are the backbone of P&R not Peterson or James Ellis they sit in a office all day and make up stuff to do when the staff are the ones getting sun burn running camps and teaching kids in after school programs how many of you have been to legion street rec center I think Bart does a fantastic job keeping up that building it is old and falling down but it is clean and things are always in order i just think we need to open up a little and help for better days to come

Why would the morons from the city pay $30000 more in salary than was advertised for the job? Mr. Ellis would have a great job for this community at the advertised price without going away from the area to get someone. Charles Stahl and Pete Peterson have no backbone or loyalty or common sense.

I don't know who they SHOULD have hired, but the one they DID hire, Roger Blakeley is downright rude. For the kind of money we are paying him, he should at least be cordial. I don't care how much he knows, he is a big turnoff. He needs to learn how to treat people. Very unimpressive man.
