Is this Steve Johnson the Commercial developer who is benefitting from hundreds of thousands of dollars from TIF which is all funded by tax payers? I guess some these items mentioned are minute when you benefit from County Commissioners and a County Mayor Candidate who supports another avenue of being taxed because you guys benefit the most unlike many businesses and developments that are self funded and bank backed. People like Steve Johnson developers and Dan Eldridge with tower construction are many times funded on taxpayers backs in part. WE KNOW WHY YOU SUPPORT ELDRIDGE SO HE CAN SUPPORT YOU AT OUR EXPENSE.

But it's clear you would prefer to slander people instead of being civil and addressing the issues in a professional manner.

No, this is Steve Johnson who works in healthcare. You seem quick to crusify anyone who tries to state an opinion.

Actually, we live in such a nation where people can choose where to send their children. Eldridge chose Providence (let's show some respect and leave the kids out of it, even though that will be difficult for someone like you) which is within his constitutional right as a citizen of this great country.
But I guess people like you would rather deprive people of their civil liberties.

Just because someone sends their kid to a private school doesn't mean they do not care about the public education system. That's like saying someone who doesn't use food stamps doesn't care about people who do.
Fewer Commissioners

We need to downsize the number of commissioners in Washington Co. Why is Eldridge against saving the taxpayers money? How much money do they make a month? I know their insurance is paid for. We could get by with 2 per district instead of three. I don't know why a candidate (Don Arnold) with a Law degree and a degree in Accounting is not considered a plus. Reeves sounds like he has good ideas also. Eldridge has the gall to make decisions concerning public schools when his kids attend private school. Thanks but no thanks.

Why has Washington County not enforced the Hatch Act? All the other counties have standards so why is Washington Co. letting it slide? Does anyone know who is supposed to enforce this act? Is it Mayor Jaynes?

Who deserves my vote in the mayors race....Why does a rich man want to be mayor? Why does a lawyer want to be mayor? Why should I vote for Reeves? Most commissioners only want the medical insurance and the pay. They get paid even if they do not attend the meetings. That is a bunch of s...t. Who will stand up to them?

Why are ALL the county commissioners supporting Dan Eldridge? Let me guess, he wants as many as possible so they will continue to waste taxpayers money instead of downsizing in these poor economic times. He will TAX and SPEND us to death and those of us who are middle income will foot the bill while his wealthy land developer friends get richer.

You bring up a very good point. I think we should be asking why a candidate wants to hold an office. Usually the reasons are: ego, the need for a job, the power to enhance his own finances and power, or a genuine belief that he can improve things. Of course that belief that he can improve things requires a big ego also.

I do not know Dan Eldridge, but I do know some facts about him. He is a multimillionaire, builder/developer, and a significant land owner. None of these things are wrong, but you have to wonder why a rich man would take on the hassles of this campaign and then the hassles of the job. That is the real question that must be answered.

While we are on it, why do we have so many builders and developers holding office?(Scott Buckingham, Clarence Mabe, Mark Larkey, Kelly Wolfe, to name a few)Hmmm. Could it have anything to do with property taxes, school zones, zoning, building codes? Also why is it acceptable for the county commission to select one of their own to fill unexpired county office positions.

I say we throw them all out and start over. Elect honest, reasonable people that need a job and not merely something to do that will puff up their egos.

I agree with Joe these builders/developers are not wanting to be elected to do good deeds for all mankind. I too question their motives and want to throw them out and start over. I made up my mind to support Don Arnold when I heard Mayor "King George" Jaynes was endorsing Eldridge. He wants to keep the "good ole boys" around for many years. The middle class must show these multimillionaires their services are no longer needed.

And what is Don Arnold's Vision. I have heard him speak 3 times. A seasoned politician with no current knowledge of what goes on inside the Jonesborough courthouse.

Oh really, so Mr. Arnold has no current knowledge of what goes on inside the courthouse? I guess his accounting degree and law degree would just be a waste. As long as he would know whos who, and how the good ole boys should promote each other, he would be a good candidate. No thank you. You are only helping me decide that he would make a great mayor. Integrity and honesty are the virtues I am voting for this election. Mr. Arnold is someone I can trust to do what is RIGHT not what will benefit the good ole boys. Don't be jealous of that. Prove that you can come up to his standard.

You do not get it, he was asked some questions at a Republican gathering and did not know the answers, I did and politely answered them when I had 3 minutes to speak. I have been going to County meeting for over 3 years now and beat back the Wheel Tax proposed by the Good Ole' Boys, they generally do not like me. I finally saw Mr. Arnold at his first County Commission meeting this month, he left early. Candidates run for office all the time and do not have a clue. I can run circles around either candidate on the county business and budget, I know where the fat is. Wow an accounting degree that will make him fiscally responsible. Ask Don about his 140 acre farm in Greene County...... I am not denying Don is a good man and may do good things for the county, just rhetoric and saying I will do good does not always translate. We have had enough of that!

He has not showed me that he is a man of honesty or integrity, I am sorry.

Don has not been out much, he does sound good. He better be more prepared in April when forums and debates start. Rhetoric will not answer my hard questions.

We have too many commissioners now. I like the idea of cutting the number down. They even get to set their own salaries and benefits. The sky is the limit. They are paid even if they do not attend meetings. They need to be accountable to somebody other than themselves!!
