Chicoans traveling to South Africa this summer to build homes

A group of Chico residents will be among the first Americans to build houses in South Africa through Southern California's Amor Ministries.

Wonderful!! I love giving back and helping others less fortunate. Hello? We do have housing problems right here in Butte County. Is it easier to close your eyes and go out of country to help others than to admit there are people here that need assistance-including building houses. I am talking about the working people who faced foreclosure.. or high medical bills and now they don't have a place to live. We need affordable housing that is available to others without 1-8 year waiting list.

Believe me, with the types of houses they're building, most Americans would think it was beneath them to live in them. Where as, these people feel like they've been built a mansion and are eternally grateful.
