When and where will the party be? Or will they use THIS money to fund the "New Bridge" study? Either way, if the tax payers fund bridges, maybe we can all share in the profits.

One of the few positives that are derived from the illegal drug trade.

"...driven into Mexico..."

If CBP would start checking all southbound traffic into Mexico with money-sniffing dogs, they'd seize enough money to pay their wages for the next ten years. One questions whther they really want to catch the money couriers. There's a whole lot of payoff going on...

You're absolutely right! Another thing, the $267,955 was probably just a small portion of a related currency movement to Mexico. They probably used several vehicles with small quantities like this one and only this gal got caught.

If CBP would start checking all southbound traffic, then people would start complaining about the long lines going south!! People don't want to be inconvenienced, even if it means catching bad guys! People don't realize there is a price to pay for fighting crime, and waiting in long lines is too much to pay for some people.

Actually, in a way, all American taxpayers will get their share from this -- and every -- CPB seizure. Under asset forfeiture laws, any money or property (usually cars, sometimes even houses) that can be tied to illegal activity are seizeable by law enforcement and the money or proceeds (from sale of property) goes into the Federal coffers.

But my understanding is that since this was a Federal agency that seized the money, and the City or County would be funding the proposed bridge study, the bridge study would be paid for with City/County taxes.

Anything and anyone entering or leaving the country can be searched and it should'nt matter how long it takes. There are different rights when it comes to import and export.

This is the same type argument made by the activists who complain about the Border Patrol checkpoints on the highways and who also complain about long lines entering the U.S. They want no inspections at all. Like I said, the money seized is important. It would more than pay for hiring a lot of inspectors, and that would speed up the crossings both ways.

I've seen drug sniffing dogs work at the POEs. The handlers work very fast and could probably check forty or fifty cars in a minute. The only ones who get delayed are the ones which the dogs "hit" on. Money sniffing dogs would work just as fast as drug sniffing dogs.

The strongest complaints would no doubt come from those who traffic in drug money. Some are very rich and influential. Real estate agents love them and they are buying up property in the U.S. at an astounding rate. They usually deal in cash.
