Good Job, Gave! Let me throw this out, since the subject of the 9/11 and like groups came up in another blog....There is too much deference paid to them in the Times-News, they always get covered and their letters to the editors always get published. I'm going to step even further into the quicksand, the Times-News subsidizes the candidates they support with cheap advertising rates, as does Blue Ridge Cable. I have always respected the independence of the press, but I have to say that I see a very scary local trend, I don't like the manipulation going on, I think it is time for people to say to the Reinharts that they have gone too far in using their media power to push their political agendas. If that gets me in trouble here, so be it, but I think it is time it was said.

Welcome Gentlemen Iím glad to see a new post. I agree with both of you and we can keep this on a higher level. I know a lot of people tend to say fox is strictly Rep and the rest are Dem, but I can tell you from experience, Blue ridge is leaning Rep, as for the times news Iím not sure. I know Blue Ridge gave Heffley sponsored air time if you know what I mean. The lawn at the station looked like Heffley headquarters during the election. I know many reporters for the TN. Attended Dem. Fundraisers and outings.

Personally, I'll take offense if you call me honey.:)) Reporters for TN, I agree. But, ownership is one and the same. Ahem, rumor has it that there is controversy among the dems, some want to do something about it, but Big Bill is still employed there, and he is trying to keep a lid on it. I think it is getting to be too widely known, lids gonna blow on it one of these days, you can't keep violating those campaign finance laws forever. Anybody notice all the advertising Schwab's office gets in the paper, every night, night after night? Page after page??? Not to mention the inserts and calendars. Food for thought...

IT'S ABOUT TIME ! I was about ready to give up ! Okay, let's get this off the ground and running. I don't care if it's just the three of us. It's been a long time since intelligent, rational, constructive conversation has gone on, on these blogs. Does it really matter if we are men or ladies ? Personally, you can call me honey, dear, whatever ! Any and all terms of endearment will be welcome ! Okay, let's cut to the chase. For the longest time, the Times News definitely swung to the tune of the Dems. Anything good about the Dems made front page. Even before Keith was elected Speaker of the House, he got the "treatment". Alot of things printed should have been treated as advertising and wasn't. I have seen a small shift in the pendulum, I will admit. Is it enough to sway voters ? I don't think so. I can tell you one thing ----- the Reinhard crew would neither give free or reduced rates to anyone. They are NOT known for their, shall we say, generosity or charity. Until the one nephew became an attorney, Schwab was the solicitor for the Board of Directors at the conglomerate. He may be a member of the Board, but, I can't say that with any amount of certainity. Schwab has very deep pockets and will be the candidate for judge (if he comes out) that will have the biggest war chest. If memory serves me correctly (and some days it does anything but), the 9/12 group has had many functions at Penns Peak. The Dems have not held any major functions (if at all) there. I will tell you one thing, though. ALOT of people were turned off when the 9/12 group sponsored the pre-election debate and NO Dems showed. I know for a fact that Justin Yaich lost votes for his no show. Alot of people turned out for that debate and there were alot of Dems in the audience. This is where the Dems are making their biggest mistake. They avoid anything where the Reps will be. They are definitely appearing as very one sided, if you will. Take a look at the Court House --- when the Dems get control, out goes the Reps who are in the "higher" positions. The Reps never did. They kept on Betty Smith as Administrator at Weatherwood and Randy Smith as County Administrator. Both registered Dems. They have not appeared to "be there" for other than Dems. The Dems cannot cry foul after enjoying YEARS of one sided press. They know they're in trouble and scrambling. But we all know that "finger pointing" won't and doesn't work. We've entered a new era. Voters are angry. Both major parties need to listen and act !

I have to agree with Gave on his assessment of the Newspaper. I never heard of anyone getting a break on the rates for advertising. I had heard there were a lot of people (Dems, Rep & NPs) that showed up for the Primary debate at the Mahoning Valley Ambulance building hoping to hear the positions on both sides. It was felt that for the first time in about 25+ years Carbon County was going to get to see a true debate for State Representative.(Rumor here:) Word got around that the Dems got together and decide that if one of them was not showing then none would show. I heard they backed out one by one right up until the end with Yaich being the last on the day of the event. Sad that people cannot come before you to tell you where they stand or what they want to do in office . There are a lot of people in this county not registered with either party and I think they may be the new swing voters in the county. Letís face it both sides have their straight ticket voters, but people are truly getting tired of partisan politics. In the end, we are ALL Americans!!! Our politicians better start acting like it or they will all with have short terms and not have to worry about term limits. This redistricting is going to be interesting for all levels of Government State and Federal.

I have it on inside information that several candidates have gotten favorable treatment by Blue Ridge and TN, so I have to disagree with you guys on this point strongly. And the evidence is right on the internet to support it, you have to look at the non-cable buys of the recent candidates, and the numbers jump out. The Reinhards can be generous when it is in their own interest. Also,in fairness to them, they have been generous to many organizations, such as the animal welfare groups and community organizations. I got other reports on the "debate", I don't believe any Dem was ever in, and I know Yaich didn't back out at the last minute, he refused from the get go, after consulting with Keith. I do not agree that they lost votes at that "debate", I was there and I saw that crowd, it was heavily one-sided, and I didn't consider it a debate as much as a plan to bash the candidates that don't support the 9/12 agenda. I believe the democrats were right to boycott it. On the other hand, I do believe that the debate on Blue Ridge tv was handled fairly and the candidates did get to present their views.

I would have to defer to your research on the candidates' filings as I have not looked into those details or would know how too. Interesting to hear you tell a different side on the debate situation. Just a question, Keith was backing Justin from the beginning then? I am gathering from that comment that he was in consultation with Keith before the Primary with how to run his campaign??? I saw all three televised Ďdebatesí(2 9/12 and Carbon County Chamber of Commerce) on TV and they all seemed to be okay. I couldnít see the crowd on the TV. So you were at the 9/12 debates? As you see how I stated above "Rumour" on this.(PS, so your a Jersey Girl at heart?)(JK)

Okay Pookie. It was gonna be "snookems" but as long as you came up with your own moniker, we're okay. Gotta disagree, again, Pookie. I had friends at the 9/12 debate. All registered Dems and up until that night, loyal straight voting Dems. They went to hear both sides. more and more voters are wanting to KNOW what these candidates stand for. They are becoming more and more aware of the TRUE salaries, perks, and benefits. I don't think it's fair that you "judged and juried" that crowd. You absolutely can NO longer judge a book by its cover. You want to talk lopsided ? Good God, go to the "candidates' night" held in Jim Thorpe. Tell me then. And, while on the subject of Blue Ridge 13, etc. let me tell you how the tongues were a waggin (both sides of the aisle) that Justin was called upon to be a host for the St. Patrick's Day Parade. Sorry, Pookie, but the projection of the Dems, up to now, has been, if they can't control the game, they ain't gonna play.

I'd call you my sweet baboo, gave, but my wife might read it and then I'll be sleeping on the couch. While Keith didn't take an open side in the primary, I got the sense that he was supporting Yaich, just because he did not come out directly in support of party central's choice, Nalesnik. Sometimes, silence can speak volumes, anyway, that is what I read into it. The 9/12 group attracted both Rs and Ds, so the fact that you saw die hard Ds in your crowd does not change my opinion there. Yaich went south with just about every other D running in the State. It was an R year, mostly because of the economy, with the voters blaming the current administration, regardless of how this mess got created. I think the Ds will have another bad year this time, and then we'll see another shift, it is the way of the world.

Okay. You don't have to refer to me as your sweet baboo, on here. I'll just mentally know it, when we post. Don't want the missus to put you on the couch. Now, we have to get something straight, Pookie. What makes you think the 9/12 debate crowd was "my crowd".I wasn't there. Friends attended. My info came from them.I have not posted nor do I intend to, what if any major party affiliation I have. I am hoping to have this blog and posts as unbiased as possible. I am hoping for intelligent conversation to discuss the candidates and issues at hand. We should be able to think outside the box of being swayed by our personal political beliefs. I would like to see our comments done as residents and taxpayers of Carbon County. Okay, Pookie ?

I didn't mean that to come off as a personal attack, I thought you said you were at the Penn's Peak meeting, as I was, so I misunderstood, that wasn't meant to implicate you in that affiliation, I thought you were commenting on the people you observed there, as I was. But I stand by what I saw that night, I don't think that was an open and listening crowd there. I'm on the same wave length, bb, keep the dialogue flowing!

What's so great about this is that we can agree to disagree without getting angry, etc. That is what I didn't like with the other blog. I just think this past election was one of angry voters. And, with news releases like in today's Standard Speaker, the voters are going to get angrier. The story was about the pensions that will be collected for former Senators Mellow and Musto, regardless of the fact they have both have legal problems. I just think the fact that a good many office holders happen or happened to be Dems was a reason the voters pulled the Reps levers. Had the situation been reversed, so would have the vote outcome. I don't think the voters care about voter registration anymore. They're just angry. They are struggling and they want to take it out on somebody. Ergo the office holders.

I know for a fact, that all the Dem. candidates made a pact to not attend the 9/12 debate. They looked at it as it was going to be a witch hunt for Dems. As for Keith supporting Yaich, I also have it on very good information that it is true. I also liked the question how did Justin get the Parade job???? I have stated that I am a DEm, but I agree with gave, the voters are fed up with politics in general. I just think the Dems. are in the wrong place at the wrong time. I feel if it were the Reps in power the outcome would have been the same but reversed...

Boy these blogs are getting interesting. Thanks to Gave Up, Pass the Paxil, and Lawful for getting these going. Really good stuff on here. To Shiffert ---yeah right. Get real. Ain't happening bro. In your dreams. There are people reading these posts and they are laughing. Some backed the old man when he ran for commissioner a long time ago. Said they won't now ! But you keep that happy thought.

I believe your info is accurate, Lawful. But, as to the parade connection, didn't anyone notice that Yaich was dating Marie Johns at the time??? That was the connection there, it wasn't a political machination, it was a love match. Lol, we all have to be cautious about reading too much into things, I think, not everything is what it appears to be. I don't know if anyone noticed, but somebody used my ID on the Recorder site to say something off the wall, so if that happens here, don't assume it is me, or that I lost my marbles.
