Is there anyone in carbon cty who feels sheriff nothstein is a qualified and productive sheriff? Why or why not?

The office in general is in serious need of reorganization and seems as if the day to day ops are lackadaisical to say the least.

After listening to him at the debate, I'm sure he thinks we're still in the 50's and runs his department as such

His answers to any programs for progress is "It's been done, and It can't be done", He does not know what an illegal foreclosure is, or a posse, discriminates against women in his office, and tell lies, a good ol boy to the core. That's what you get when you hire someone that has limited education and training, and gets the job through corrupt grooming so they have a "yes, man", that does whatever corrupt order he's told. Time for something a little better....I would say "pup" is the man, but, pup is voting for Steve Armbruster........Armbruster seems the choice for someone that actually cares about the people he's serving.

He is probably a very nice man but he is a clueless sheriff. He had sufficient time to prepare for the debates but wasn't in touch with any of the issues. I'm still not sure what he thinks his job is. The times are changing and he is not. He is a rubber-stamp bureaucrat. Time to say good-bye!

Wow even Wyoming is ahead of Carbon County imagine that!

The sheriffs dept dont write the tickets, thats done by the JTPD or the county meter maid.

And there again a waste of tax dollars, why not just delegate one of the deputies like Melber to write parking tickets and handle that kind of stuff.

I have heard that Nothstein likes to bully the women and the little girls that work for him in the sheriff's department. His lawsuit is going very badly for both him and the county and it's going to cost tens of thousands of dollars to settle this....what cracks me up is the first comment after the article.

Armbruster nailed it when he called out the good ole' boys...Armbruster all the way!!

Plaintiff alleges race, sexual harassment
By RON GOWER [email protected]
Carbon County Sheriff Dwight Nothstein and the County of Carbon are defendants in a lawsuit filed by an employee alleging racial and sexual harassment and discrimination.

The action was filed in U.S. District Court, Scranton, on behalf of Evelyn S. Hydock-Horos, an employee in the sheriff's office.

Hydock-Horos is alleging she was denied a promotion because of her race and gender, and was subjected to a hostile work environment.

She is seeking a promotion to the position of sergeant in the sheriff's office and "tort remedies," including payment for compensatory damages, pain and suffering, physical and emotional distress, economic loss, time loss, severe emotional trauma, and punitive damages.

Nothstein denied the allegations this morning.

"They're all false," he said of the lawsuit allegations. "We will defend it because it's false."

He added that he cannot make any additional comments because it is a court matter.

The suit, which requests a jury trial, was filed on behalf of Hydock-Horos by the law firm of Hahalis & Kounoupis, PC. of Bethlehem.

The court action alleges: "Throughout plaintiff's employment, she made repeated applications for the sergeant position. On each such occasion, the position was awarded to a less qualified, less senior male deputy."

Hydock-Horos has been employed by the county since Jan. 6, 2004, when she was hired as a part-time security guard. She was promoted to deputy sheriff in August 2004.

She alleges, "From as early as 2006 and continuing plaintiff was subjected to continuous and pervasive sexual discrimination and retaliation by Nothstein ..."

Examples she alleges in the suit are:

On Jan. 2006, Nothstein went to plaintiff's office and started to rub her back.

In Feb. 2006, she was leaving the department and Nothstein said to her, "You better go and earn your paycheck. I know we don't have a jungle here but you should still be able to work."

There are other references to her breasts and her race alleged in the suit.

The suit states, "Plaintiff has been discriminated against because of her race, gender, and has been exposed to a hostile work environment and retaliated against because she complained of discrimination."

She is seeking damages due to loss of future income, benefits, earnings, and earnings capacity in excess of $100,000.

She is also seeking losses of past income, benefits and earnings in excess of $100,000.

Finally, she is seeking punitive damages in excess of $100,000.

The suit states, "Plaintiff seeks promotion to sergeant, together with back pay, compensatory and other damages set forth herein and/or seeks in lieu of reinstatement, front pay damages."

The lawyers would not have filed this case unless there was blatant misconduct. Most cases are not filed for monetary gain they are filed because someone finally stood up to correct the old-school do what you want mentality. If you have the time to comment I suggest you take the time to go to the trial and see the facts for yourself. Once the defendents attornies review the case I would not be surprised if they try to quietly settle, at the taxpayers expense, to save the embarassment, and cover up for one of the good ole boys.
