We have become a very sick nation, when a person is arrested over a library book,
verses be billed for it.

"Fifth-degree theft?" I didn't realize that there were that many ways of taking someone else's stuff. One more degree and she could have been arrested for kidnapping Kevin Bacon.

Okay....arrested for a $13.95 book. Incredible. It's amazing how low we have sunk. It would seem the cities/counties will do anything for the almighty dollar. The $250 bond goes to the city/county I am sure. Obviously there aren't enough "real criminals" to insure job security in the justice system anymore.

Library staff tried several times to contact Miss Koontz, not only by phone but by mail as well.

The bond is returned when she shows up for her court date; otherwise, it is forfeited.

I am sure it costed the city a huge sum of money to arrest, book, and go thru the bail process. Maybe it would have been easier to garnish her wages for a lousy 13.95...just a thought!!!!

That doesn't excuse it or justify a departure from common sense.

Centinel, why in the world would you use a picture of the
ugliest what ever it is, I suppose it's a dog. It must give you
something to hide behind thereby stroking your ego and
giving you self confidence.

It's the dog of choice for men who require a roach clip to pee.

I derive enormous self-confidence from hiding behind the pit bull in my avatar. Please don't be afraid of it, its only a tiny image on a web page. As far as stroking, I will defer to your obvious expertise in that area.

I tpp would have laughed that off as a tad overzealous, but then I saw some TV footage where she was bitching about getting hauled in for it, giving all these lame excuses. Almost all libraries have drive by drop boxes.

Libraries are one of the few government programs I use and if I had my way, their budgets would be quintupled. To hell with people who take library materials and don't bring them back.

Also, something tells me that this lady was likely known as a bit of a scofflaw enthusiast in the community and when you operate like that in a small town, it catches up to ya. Too bad

The thing for this woman to do, would have been to return the library book, and pay her fines. Even if the book was only $13.95, it was borrowed in good faith, she never returned the book, or even bothered to contact the library. What else are they suppose to do, just let everybody borrow and then keep what they have checked out?

The line it was borrowed in good faith should be, it was lent in good faith.
