I am Justin Thompson's brother and i would like to see the interview that Lt.Todd Miller made about the kidnapping, torture and abducting the waverly man.I also want to know why it took Thomas Cummings five hours to get to the hospital after all this happened to him he obviously Thomas Cummings was not hurt that bad if he waited five hours to get to the hospital.
from a very concerned relative,

Well I don't think the problem was if Thomas Cummings was hurt that bad or how long it took him to get to the hospital. I think the problem is what your bother and Barker did to him and how illegal it was. Show a little consideration for the victim.

I really don't think that the question is how bad thomas cummings was hurt or how long it took him to get to the hospital. I think the real problem here is what your brother and Barker did to him and how illegal it was. I think you should show a little consideration for the victim.

To Matt Johnson-
You say you are changing your life? While you are working on that, try a spelling class.

What in the world is going on???!!! Am I the only one who finds this discussion bizarre? It's a discussion I would expect to take place in some bad parts of large cities, not New Hampton, IA.
Nashua has gotten to be a pretty shady place with a lot of shady characters. Keep it there, New Hampton doesn't need it!

To anyone who was involved, thought they were involved, or could of been involved...or have a question about "said victim"...I don't care how you look at, it was wrong. The victim was mentally disabled, your lucky he went to the hospital without someone leading him there depending on his mental capacity and the state of mind he was in after being beaten and burned and basically strippped of human dignity. Lets not forget kidnapped. Illegal aside, it was inhumane, immoral, and all who were involved should be completely ashamed of themselves to the point they can't look themselves in the mirror without feeling like they're going to be sick for humilating not just someone who is feeble minded, but another human being, period! There is no excuse for it, no just cause, and no reasoning behind to justify what you did, or any involvement anyone had with it. Doesn't anyone have respect for anyone else anymore, or for themselves for that matter?

okay, you say that we should feel sorry for the "victom" ... right ??? but what about waht he did to me ... i was there that night with mat. before this night he did something to me that was just as bad if not worse that what happened to him ... he raped me ... i was only 16 and he was 21 ... how wrong was that ... is he being charged fo it ??? not that i know of ... so stop your bickering and drop it ... lets not play the blame game and fight about somthing we can't do anything about ... all that i have to say is that i miss my mom and she is in jail for all of this ... it has been about 184 days scince i have seen her and none of you know how bad that feels !!!

I get that this is two years late, but I have a little inside to the story. First of all Lesleigh Thomas hardly 19 when this all took place.... and if he did rape you why weren't charges pressed. It sounds to me like it was consensual sex until somebodys mother found out, so she claims rape... hmm! On another note if it was rape... my guess is that he did NOT rape your for four hours straight!! Toms beating lasted for four hours. I understand what it is like to be raped, honestly, because I was raped. My attacker however was not assualted for hours and charged were pressed against him. The beatings could have cost Tom his life, its a miracle it didnt! SO PLEASE DO NOT JUSTIFY THE BEATING AND THE TOURTURE OF A MAN WITH A CRY OF RAPE. SERIOUSLY!
Also Matt, I don't care how much you say you are changing your life and how you saved Tom's, YOU THREW PUNCHES... why u are not in jail is beyond me. Here's a story... a mom beats her son until he can barely breath, one eye swollen shut, broken nose and brused ribs...BUT on the positive side she took him to the hospital to get him help...SO she saved his life... what a hero... NOT. Same goes for you. PATHETIC!
Heath- YOUR BROTHER IS AN A$$,and it doesnt matter how long it took Tom to get help. They are all probably luck that he actually went. What if he went home went to bed and died in his sleep. Then your brother would be looking at murder charges.
Its amazing how people feel they can take the law into their own hands. If someone wrongs your in any illegal way...the solution is to report it. Not abuse them, not beat them naked with wrenches, NOT to shock them with battery chargers, and NOT to pour salt over them when you are through! Geez people.
Yes I do feel strongly about this story, I work in the mental health field. This is an absurd and very sad story about pathetic people who feel they have the right to do this to other people. This actually shouldn't even have anything to do with the fact that Tom is mentally ill... this would be wrong if it happened to any human being.
I hope while those 5 jerks are sitting in jail and they think about what they have done and about the common courtesy they should have towards other people!
Also Lesleigh for the fact that your mother is in jail... I have kids... and as a mother I could not imagine doing anything to chance not being there for them... no matter what. I am sorry for you that you have to be without your mom during this time, however I do not feel sorry for your mother.
PEACE-

I can't believe this happened less that 1/2 mile away from my home! It makes me sick! I agree with Inside Scoup, nothing justifies what was done to Thomas. I just wish we could have known what was going on so we could have called the police! I just feel so bad for the kids who were involved!

Nashua's always had shady character's, the Jepperson brothers come to mind, as well as K. Hurd and a few others. I went to Nashua Community Schools from '83 to '86 and lived down the road from the Little Brown Church. I remember before the new bridge over the dam on the Cedar river was built and cars going the opposite direction had to wait before crossing on the old one.(Saying this in case anyone doubts me ever living there).

I know it has been years since this incident, but I still think of that night. I am now going on 23 years old, and no matter what happened to me prior to that night (charged or not) I regret not trying to do more. I was 16. I am in a totally different part of my life now and in a better state of mind. What happened that night was wrong, so wrong. I wish that I would have been more brave and spoke up and stood my ground against what took place. I saw and heard things that I will never be able to forget. To be honest, I didn't know Tom was mentally disabled, and maybe that was because I was young and ignorant, but that is no excuse for what happened, nor does it matter. That should have never happened, to anyone. To this day I still do not understand why it was classified as a kidnapping, again, maybe that's because I didn't understand all the details or the entire situation. My understanding was that he got the okay from the half-way house he was staying at, to move out. From there Rob told him that he could live with us (I say us, because my mom was dating Rob, and my mom, sisters, and I were living with Rob as well). So, by my understanding of the situation was that Tom was living in the house that this all took place at. I could be wrong. I don't want anyone to say that I am trying to justify anything that happened that night, I am not. I feel terrible that I didn't do something to stop what was happening. In my defense, I was only a 16 year old girl, who was scared to stand up to the men that did those things to Tom. I do remember trying to get away from it all. I hid in the basement at one point. If Tom happens to see this, I am sorry.
