I agree Jesup is not great for shopping but the lack of entertainment, especially for kids is ludicrous! Growing up here we had Cracker Williams Rec Center which hosted dances every few weeks for the teens, sometimes dancing and even square dancing for the adults, ceramics classes, fencing, just about anything you wanted for a nominal charge. Now there is nothing but our wonderful swim team (which i swam on in my younger days.)

If you don't like it, move away. Nobody needs naysayers. Either enjoy it, find a way to make it better, or MOVE ON!

I lived in Jesup for 22 years. It is one of the most awful places I can think of. My family still lives there and they hate it as much as I do, but they have no other choice because it is the kind of place people get stuck in. They feel as if there is no where else to go. There is no REAL college to help them further their education, there is no other major industry other than Rayonier. No wonder people make fun of the people who are raised there because there isn't anywhere for kids to cultivate themselves. They spend all day in the woods shooting animals or sitting and smoking weed in the McDonalds parking lot. As for Unity COG,I was a member there for a long time. Then one day certain people of that church showed their true colors. It showed me how much better I can be. The people who go to church there and think it is the best place in the world, are sadly mistaken. I have seen how the leaders of that church act behind closed doors. Why do you think the church cannot keep a steady ministry team? Because the people who come into that church are disgusted by the way its leadership acts. A lot of it is show.
You've got Georgia Southern University, Coastal College, and aren't far from Savannah. You live in a state where your college is practically paid for thanks to the lottery. Stop complaining and start taking advantages of what you do have. As for me, I've lived in Atlanta, Houston, Dallas, and New Orleans, and I'll take the down-home, know-your-neighbors, friendly-customer service, no traffic over BIG city any day. Of course, if you're young, you might want to go to a big city to gain some life experiences and then see if Jesup might again have some curb appeal for you.

Jessup depends on the correctional facilities and ray nard for tax revenue. Someone should start looking outside the box to lure in some real manufacturing companies that are union workers that will be paid good wages and benefits. And how about investing in the fishing industry, lots of lakes, streams, rivers and ocean all are surrounding Jessup. And how about all the farm land, there could be a big fish market and farmers market right in the heart of town on cherry, main and first street. This would create jobs, bring people together with entertainment on the street such as holding more street fairs and people coming out to shop, children getting face paintings, you get my drift. The merchants would benefit from the foot traffic and if actives continue to grow people from other surrounding areas would come and spend money to help fill the coffers. The possibilities are endless.

You people kille me. Your ignorance is a vast and empty as your ideas. Businesses have to be profitable to stay in buiness and Jesup it too small to support large eateries and malls. If you don't like what is offered, move to a larger city that will give you what you want. There is no consipiracy to hold new business and nicer places from locating there. It is a matter of economics. The goodness can be be seen now as Bro George Moxley lost his son in an automobile accident. I have never been to his church, but he is a decent man and the community is stepping up to offer its heart and hand to him at this time. That compassion and expression of sympathy and understanding is better in a community than a thousand Applebees or a 10,000,000 square foot mall. It is the reason so many choose to live is small town America. And when you grow a brain maybe you will understand it.

Jesup is a great place for families. It may not have the best entertainment facilities, but its still a great place to raise a child. And not as a personal attack on anyone, but those who are angered by the christian efforts in the town---consider whether you are living in the way of the world. Worldly is far from Godly and we need to stick to our morals and common courtesy. It would be nice for us not to disrespect others. As for the bowling alley, I believe the funding just hasn't happened yet. The future owners are young and just haven't rallied their troops yet I suppose.

As long as you have certain power brokers keeping good things out of the county, it will remain stagnant. They fought a college: It went to Brunswick and all we ever got was a tech school. They fought the railroad: It went to Waycross. They fought a brewery: It went somewhere else too. Maybe when certain ones die off, Jesup (and Wayne County) will grow.....
