We were some of the lucky Amtrak riders delayed 4 hours by this and our train passed right by it. There were packages all over the tracks -- it looked like a landfill -- and a front end loader was scooping them up. I don't think those packages are getting there at all -- let alone by Christmas.

I must agree...it looked like a trash pile. The packages "Spilled Out" when the train cars were smashed. I guess a few boxes might be able to be saved, but not the ones we saw.

One of those packages was mine. :( It was an electronic device. We'll see if it shows up and what shape it is in.

All they said was that it will not delay the packages. but you also noticed they made no attempt to post where to file a claim for damaged packages or packages that may have been stolen before the cops got there. and if you didn't get the insurance coverage... can you say screwed.

Ya I had a lot of money in the electronics on that train and they made no contact about damage. I got the other package that came a different route and when I asked where my other one was all I got was "nope only 1 I think" So I had to go online to find out that it got thrown out at coralville and sited for damage. So now i have to deal with only having half a computer. And waiting more time to see if where i bought it from has anymore items in stock.

I also had a package on that train. I didn't know anything about it until I checked the tracking number.

"won't delay packages" is a total lie. I won't get my package until a week later. I live in Phoenix and it arrived there on the 27th. But they will not deliver it until the 2nd. I called and the agent kept repeating the same thing about how busy it is and they couldn't get it to me until then.

See there was no delay...you actually have to have a package for it to be delayed...what UPS shipped was a rail car full of trash... opps wait that trash was your packages. my fault, sorry.

I am extremely upset about UPS and they made me find anti UPS in website.
In Dec and Jan, i surprisingly have 3 delays and no feedback and no responsiblity from UPS.
In Dec 20, i sent a parcel to Libya and just today UPS suddenly asked me it is delayed.
And last week, i sent a parcel to Mexico on last Friday and one more on last Saturday. One of them still didnt arrive and went to wrong city & country now. So stupid so irresponsible.

I have my package in there. The tracking system indicates the following:
THE PACKAGE IS DELAYED DUE TO A TRAIN DERAILMENT

Hope it is not thrown away.

By all means if you can avoid it, steer clear of UPS Ground Delivery Service. It's awful and it takes up to two weeks in some cases to get your package delivered. My package was coming from the greater NYC metro area and I live in Redding, CA. This is a lesson learned that I will pay the extra few dollars to get the package much earlier. Train derailment...you've got to be kidding. Hopefully no one was hurt.

Bottom line is this: DO NOT USE UPS.

I am awaiting a laptop. Says it is arriving late due to a 6:00 pm Train Derailment in San Pueblo, CA

I never do busines with UPS (but this time had no choice, as the sender chose them); a few years ago I shipped a computer and music keyboard across the country. I PAID EXTRA to cover all of the insurance AND I paid the UPS STORE to do the packing for me (so they couldn't claim I had packaged it poorly)

When it arrived it my house, the boxes had GAPING HOLES IN THEM, and a trail of packing peanuts led all the way back to the brown truck. Sure enough, the keyboard was completely broken, and the case, power supply, and hard disk drive of my computer were damaged beyond repair.

When I filed a claim, they did everything in their power to DENY MY CLAIM. First, they asked me to bring in the boxes and give them the packages. I said "HELL NO. If I give you the evidence, what am I going to use if I have to take you to court?" They didn't like that answer. They sent an inspector who looked at the packages, saw my broken goods, took some photos, and left. They never responded. I hassled them a week later. No response. Then they called and asked me to bring in the damaged boxes for them to keep and "inspect"

I told them they had seen it, they had their own claims investigator come out and look and take photos, and that they could pay me the amount I was insured for, buy me the replacement equipment, or they could see me in court.

Eventually -- about a month or two later -- I was able to get reimbursed.

STEER CLEAR OF THESE SHADY, INCOMPETENT BASTARDS. One of the worst companies on the face of the earth.

PS. One summer when I was in college I also really needed money for a car, so I took up the night shift at one of their main east coast processing plants. Approximately 80% OF MY COWORKERS in there were ex-convicts straight out of jail (no exaggeration); I was a truck loader, and they would send down so many packages off of the conveyer belt that I literally got buried in them. After a week, I would wake up screaming from nightmares about being buried in cardboard and suffocating. So I quit after 1 week. But... just an insider's view of what "Brown can do for you"

Yeah, something must be wrong with the rails coming in from san pablo to sacramento. About three derails within 2 years. I had just tracked my package about 5 minutes ago and there was a delay and change is status. Guess what, there was a derail. I'm pissed as f**k....

My package is derailed too. San Pablo, CA. Did they purposely derail the train or was it accidental? Are the packages OK? I wasn't offered insurance.

I just got an email from UPS stating my package would be delayed due to a train derailment in San Pablo, CA too. It said it arrived in San Pablo yesterday at 0714, and then says there was a train derailment at 2200 hours last night. I was supposed to get it today.
