I love how they use our taxpayers dollars to bust the hard working legal citizens. How about this....save all the money you are wasting on the firework investigating and use it to send back the illegals!

One of the crucial stories on News 12 - allias Newsday. Chalk up one more double standard with the Cops. Never saw an off duty walk away from a bomb factory at a 4th of july party among friends. Look at the seriousness onthe faces when they tell the story on News 12, its likemy hero, the police. WOW -- What a Joke.

I wouldnt mind it as long as when they set them off they are careful and my propery is not damaged. I actually like the show from my backyard!

The march of the bozos is underway here. "Go after real criminals." "More people are hurt by drugs than fireworks." "It's a victimless crime." "Don't the cops have anything better to do?" Blah, blah, blah.
If only we could see the face of a stunned bozo devotee of fireworks, after his neighbor's garage stuffed with fireworks does KABOOM and this bozo devotee's house is also damaged or worse, as he turns on the neighbor with indignant rage. It would be funny if it were not so tragic.
Here's a question for you fireworks-loving bozos. If you knew your neighbor's house or garage was stuffed with fireworks, would you feel comfortable in that knowledge?

I can't believe Newsday used the word "Illegal".
Are they undocumented fireworks? Maybe the status of fireworks are in flux. No Firework is illegal.

And, how did the 4th of July become a 2-3 week holiday, or should I say, just an excuse for white trash to make things go BOOM? I have to buy a month's supply of Acepromizine for my dogs in July, otherwise, every night in July, they just sit and shake and cry, while morons set off these fireworks 2 doors down from me.

to all of the moronic posters and their convoluted reasoning, fireworks are illegal in New York! Get it? Case closed.
You make an excellent point. Jay-walking is also illegal. I say SCPD establish a jay-walking unit and stop these criminals once and for all.

Some other laws on the books that need more focus:

"A license must be purchased before hanging clothes on a clothesline."

Yet they sell clotheslines and I've never been asked if I have the proper documentation.

"Citizens may not greet each other by putting one’s thumb to the nose and wiggling the fingers"

I've seen this done on numerous occasions, and its a good thing the Stooges are dead (perhaps we can go after their estates for damages).

"In New York, you can teach your pet parrot to speak, but not to squawk."

Damned squawking Parrots!!

"In Staten Island, New York, You may only water your lawn if the hose is held in your hand."

When is the NYPD going to put an end to the sale and subsequent purchase of lawn sprinklers?!?

"Slippers are not to be worn after 10:00 P.M."

Lets start kicking in some doors!!

Just like people have a right to drink, and a right to smoke, they have the right to set off fireworks. I am not advocating fireworks powerful enough to blow up someone's house, but I see no harm in firecrackers & bottle rockets. Like other posters, I'm pissed that the cops find $$$ for this crrapp, but not for aggressive road-rage drivers, or drunks..

Fireworks in the hands of anyone but Grucci 'should be' illegal.

Some states allow all forms of consumer fireworks; some allow only sparklers and novelty items; some ban all fireworks, consumer and otherwise; and some have no fireworks laws whatsoever.

Eyes and Ears and Fingers and Faces and Arms and then there's the CHILDREN......fireworks in the hands of amateurs are dangerous and that's why (some) states have made them illegal. It's mafia and gang related money-why wouldn't you want it stopped for that reason alone. These dirt bags are not selling sparklers..they're selling the big stuff, the dangerous stuff !

Well, maybe "losers" is a bit over the top, but I don't see the attraction of these very annoying and dangerous fireworks. Lots of people get hurt each year and for what?
i agree and the posters who think it is a waste of time will be the first ones to complain when their neighbors using illegal fireworks set their roof on fire. i can understand seeing the public displays of visual fireworks, but can't understand how anyone with a mental age of over 13 can get a thrill from making loud noises.

SHAME ON NEW YORK LEGISLATORS!

Was this country not founded on guns and explosions. You should be ashamed of yourself.

Instead of spending all this money on surveillance and time paid to officers for arresting his neighbors, why not spend it on education with how to be safe videos and/or literature.

Absolutely disgusting.

I heartily agree that some people need to be protected from themselves but I have no problem watching somebody break dancing in the street while waiting for his fingers to fall back to earth.

So many years ago me and a friend used to rent a cargo van, take it to Maryland, load it up with fireworks, drive back to NY, sell em to friends, and we would have enough left over to put on a huge show for the whole neighborhood on the 4th. All the neighbors would come outside, we'd give sparklers to the kids, and everyone had a great time. There were probably 100's of people. NO ONE WAS EVER HURT AND NOTHING WAS EVER DAMAGED. We would even do a quick clean up after (It got really messy) and then clean everything in the morning. No one ever called the cops - everyone was too busy enjoying themselves
