I just sat down with my parents to go over their Medicare options for them for 2010. Their Premiums for Part D are jumping from $49.00 per month to $116.00 per month under Blue Cross Blue Shield Plan B. That's a $67.00 per month increase in their premiums!!! I'm no math whiz but what is that, like a 130% increase? And of course no COLA for them this year. And Congress wants to cut 4-500 Billion out of Medicare to pay for the new health plan that passed the house? How do they propose to cut that amount? Increase Seniors premiums even more? Cut even further on the payments to Dr.s?

Lesson to the young:

Do not allow yourself to end up depending on Medicare for your health in old age.

Put off the purchase of gadgets and SAVE for your future!

Exactly! Because SS and Medicare aren't going to be there and you know Obamacare isn't going to work.

Actually that's 136% or 136.73 so it's even worse than you thought percentage wise.

Now, have you ever heard ... Hey, this is a great deal, but it's only good for the first hour, so you must act now.....

Thanks, I was trying to do it in my head. I was close but if you round up that's 137%.

The problem I'm learning is that you can't afford to get old and sick in this country. My own health care went up 57% last year and will be going up an additional 22% this year. How do I plan an economic future with numbers like that? Even though I make more money every year (and I'm a lucky one for being able to do that) my actual income decreases every year because the increases in my health insurance costs.

Unlike your mortgage though, you'll never pay that off and it will always continue to go up.

Open Competition will cure many of these issues with premiums.

I'm all for it (open competition), but I doubt it will solve all the health care issues. Health insurance is still a monopoly similar to big oil. I don't have the answers because it's not an area I am educated in or know all the issues but the system is broken and needs to fixed. That being said, I do NOT believe that the bill that just passed the House (and fortunately will die in the Senate) is the answer, but the problems still remain and will need to be addressed.

Its bad enough that they are wanting to do this, but on top of that there will be no COLA raise this year or next.

Nope, because the government says there is no inflation. I don't know how they get that a 136% increase in Medicare Premiums isn't inflation.

The only thing all this is going to accomplish is to send the young men and women who have kids to support to start a life of crime to be sure these kids do have cloths and food, and the next thing it will do is cause the seniors into having strokes or heart attacks over worring how they are going to make ends meet on a fixed income then in the end they will die just to have the cycle start all over again. This is certainly a sign of the times.

Daily Horoscope for December 16

Scorpio

If you're concerned about finding the cash for what usually turns out be an expensive month, the New Moon is the time to start on a budget or some other financial strategy. Try talking to an expert during the coming fortnight, or simply decide to cut down on your expenses. Don't spend so much on presents this year.
