Cost of natural gas going up

Consider what you paid last winter, and then increase that by 30 to 40 percent. Gas company officials admit it is going to be a "challenging winter" at the end of the year. Full Story

Now it's going to be cheaper to run the generator during the winter than pay out the @$$ to DTE.

I wonder why sending heat assistance to Communist North Korea is more important than heating assistance for the poor, the elderly, and the disabled Americans?

If anyone didn't think this was going to happen, shame on you. It is a fuel.....and it will only remain 'affordable' if all other fuels are 'affordable'. Of course, if we build more nuke plants or clean-burn coal plants, we could slow the rise in costs. But, as we all know, it is the extremists world and they control everything regardless of how stupid and ill-effective it is to everyone. They would rather save a bird from a wind generator than let poor people be warm at night. Idiots....all of them idiots.

I'll bet we're all cold this winter. It was very hard paying last year and I don't know what I'll do this next year.

Open your eyes. This is a locally harvested material. All it comes down to is someone else trying to rake your wallet. They've talked months about doing this, and here we are. You can sit here and cry, or seriously do something about it before the season hits us.

I've felt that pain the cold winters in GR And 3 years ago I did .But yhis price increase has nothing to do with supply . Just look up the Fayetteville Shale Play the supply is there.

Wrong....

George Bush turned the heating program for the poor over to the Salvation Army...

And I know plenty of poor people who went without heat starting in March last spring. Pretty cruel telling old people who heat with wood they must "dial down".

Any Salvation Army Generals go without heat last winter.

I wonder what percentage of George Bushs "Faith Based Innitiative" cash goes somewhere besides heating the homes of the poor, the elderly, or the disabled?

I wonder how much ends up in the pockets of folks who live in mansions and eat every night in fine restrants?

I wonder why they quit drilling the Niagra Reef formation (Right here in Michigan) right after Richard Cheneys "secret" energy policy meeting a few months before 9-11-01?

At least Richard Nixon and Spiro Agnew had enough "Honor" to step down when they got caught in the hot seat!

Last winter these "programs" were left unfunded or underfunded and many more people need help that don't get it. You obviously have no idea what your talking about. You should actually try a little thing called learning before you try to educate. If a family cannot afford food and is forced to go to a food bank to eat they are still not eligible for assistance in many many cases. An elderly woman died last year in her home because the gas company cut her off for not paying her bill. The gas company should be required by law to contact local social service agents before turning someones gas off. I think the problem goes a bit deeper than the customer. The math in the story was the increase in gas costs went up about 36 percent for the gas company but the cost for the consumer was much more. If the rep from the gas company claims they don't make their money from the price per unit then I fail to understand where the rest of the money is going. The current cost on the global market changes daily and could actually go down before heating season because of reduced usage. The gas company adjusted the price and have not only passed along every cent of the increase but have ensured a hefty profit margin.

Same thing happened here all you have to do is call them and they will lower the bill this is a no brainer you do not need the news media to figure this one out

We're all in this together, people. It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better. This is a struggling society and we better start watching out for each other rather than turning on each other.

Thanks, Gail. Very good point. We really have gotten way too dawg eat dawg. Either hang together or hang individually. Ben Franklin quote? We do need to work together. We all have to conserve more & elect reps who are not in the pockets of energy or any other types of special interests. Cheap energy has made us addicts. Many others around the world now want our standard of living & the supplies of resources will be strained. Prices, therefore, will go up. Use it more wisely. Do not use natural gas for electricity. Use coal or nuclear, & use less of it. A start.
