Perkins enacted their own smoking ban before the state did, going from a resataurant that tried to accomodate all customers to another that didn't care about some of thier customers. In the meantime, the rabidly anti smokers continue to attack the remaining smokers, now getting the schools to ban smoking anywhere on their campuses, even outdoors.
Taz, public schools do not allow it anymore and have not for years. You will get a ticket if caught.

Quit pointing Fingers, Seriously. The only people to blame in this situation is the company themselves. Places like Circuit City, Block Buster, KB Toys, Bennigans, Linen N Things, and Now Perkins...All have one thing in common poor leadership at the top. They all got greedy and expanded beyond their financial capabilities and Wow Amazing, they went bankrupt. This is what Capitalism is all about...

This article explains how a lot of the chains opened up too many restaurants, too close to one another and many across the nation are going under. Furthermore, we have quite a few coffee shops in Holland and Perkins wasn't really that good at it. I also think the American palate has matured and most of us want something a bit more interesting.

The parking lot at the Jenison Perkins has been virtually empty for a long time. Perkins was overpriced and , by my experience, served poor meals. My wife was served a chicken sandwich with undercooked chicken, almost raw. We sent it back and ordered something else. They took care of the bill, but serving uncooked chicken is unacceptable.
Several months later, we gave them another chance. I ordered a chicken sandwich and again, it was served vastly undercooked. I like steak medium rare, but not chicken. To have this happen once might be excusable, but to have it happen twice is unforgivable. I was so angry this time, I called the manager over and told her that I wanted to go back to the kitchen and have words with her cook. Again, they took care of the bill and gave us a half dozen muffins, but I told them I would never set foot in another Perkins again. If this happened to me, twice, how many times has it happened to others.

I will miss Perkins cinnamon rolls and pie. We would always pick up some to eat while camping at Ottawa Beach.

I find it incredibly ironic that the far right campaigns against organized labor, hates food stamps, protects every business regardless, and then cries about people not being able to get decent jobs.

I wonder why? Record profits and falling wages. Unless you're in that top 1%, WHY protect? Are you all rich?

I drove by the only one, i know down here and it is still open, but it is part of a big Holiday Inn, so i don't know if that changes it's viability.....
