You got 25 mpg in a V-8 in the 60's and 70's???? I'd like to know what car that was. My usual was like 7 or 8 mpg with my 1969 V-8.<quoted text>
yes I know and even before the 60's. someone wanted to know what type of carburator patents were bought and shelved by oil companies.
Think about it the V8's got pretty decent gas millage in the 60's and 70's average 25mpg. Very few of todays v6's can match the mpg of the 60's and 70's. On average cause i'm sure there are a few that do better but A v6 van 22 mpg. A v6 ford ranger 20 mpg. v8's down to 10-12 mpg or less!!

A stock 1971 350 2 barrel carb with an excellent tranny driving 55 mph highway. city driving or faster speeds greatly reduced the mpg. You must have been driving like speed racer and had a bigger v8 and possibly a 4 barrel carb.

Diesel now $4.69+ in Florida, probably $5.00 by end of month. Of course markets are being manipulated but for how long. With first quarter '08 the second largest quarterly decline in fuel consumption on record the price supports can't hold as speculators move off their positions. Once this occurs price supports could dramatically decline. I believe it may in part depend upon summer consumption, if the second quarter drops say 1.2-2% more, prices in the US will likely decline even though Europe and China experience higher pricing.
