This is probably a better article....

http://www.nypost.com/p/news/opinion/opedcolu...

Now, factor in the idea that HOW is the government going to manage it's 'customers'?

Currently we are moving to a government that finds it 'politically incorrect' for people not to be 'insured'. Now let's take one more step....it also means that it is politically incorrect that any treatment should be denied right? I mean, if my Dr says I should have this 'experimental treatment then shouldn't I have the 'right' to try? What we are really saying then is that America's have a "Right" to having a blank check as it pertains to their healthcare. Ted Kennedy wanted every American to have the same 'priviledge' as his family has experienced. But what he failed to acknowledge is that his family didn't have the government paying the 'bill'. They also had the reality that money was no object - they didn't have to worry if they ordered the wrong test or over-paid a Dr. So....it makes me wonder if Ted Kennedy were here today - would he forgo paying for his own treatment and accept what the healthcare bill provided him? Would every single politician commit to using only this healthcare plan? Unless and until we can say that there will always be an 'unfairness' about healthcare. Somebody will always have 'more'. I personally do not believe for one second that the answer lies in giving control to the government to manage. I do believe that people should have a way to not go bankrupt for catastrophic illness. I also believe that people should have a leg-up when times are hard. But to permanently write blank checks is a bad idea because there is no accountability. The government writes the checks by raising taxes and the people don't worry about what they 'spend' on healthcare. Oh...and what about vitamins? Shouldn't every American be afforded vitamins? Where does it stop if at all?

What's stopping YOU from doing something on your own?

Again, you seem to have a big mouth about what you think everyone should be forced to do, but when we look at your own personal efforts to help people, we find that you just sit and talk.

Get together with these people, and pool your money together and form a health co-op. You wont have to live by the rules of any ins. company, and you wont be meddling in the personal and monetary affairs of other people who want no part of it.

"letting the insurance companies run things is simply NOT acceptable"

SAYS WHO? What part of the constitution even begins to entertain your big government fetish for having the same people that tanked everything from Social Security to Medicare (neither of which are constitutional either) run something like this?

I'm curious, how much are you paying now?
They are predicting that if this bill passes, it will cost between $4,000 to $5,000 per person per year for health care.
Is that "affordable" health care?
And that doesnt factor in all of the tax increases, and all of the pork spending that is in it.
I think they need to just can this thing, and maybe start over.
Thank goodness for people like Joe Lieberman.
Obama say's he wants it on his desk before Christmas, and Joe will stand up for whats right!

It's simple! Those who want governemnt run health care sit IN the wagon. Those opposed to government run health care PULL the wagon. Period. It's called the "entitlement mentality".

If the final product of "government run healthcare" equates even close to the medical care system for the active duty military, it could be a good thing.

Well, adding 40 to 50 million people into our health care system and letting everyone abuse the system causing a rationing of care, the cost will result in higher cost and less life saving access to care, so the cost could easily result in your death. Not to mention the trillions of dollars.

Well look at Hawaii. They tried and immediately got swooped away with people jumping on the 'free' bandwagon. What you fail to see is that doing 'something' even 'anything' for the sake of doing something could result in a scenario far worse than we have now.

I'm curious - does 'dental' get included in this healthcare? If not, why not....don't people have the right to dental care, eye care, etc. Where does this stop?

Does that mean we get military surgeons who aren't fit to operate, facilities that have to be closed for health concerns, deplorable conditions like are at Walter Reed too???

Oh Joy!

Oh I know! How about we get facilities like the VA! That would be EVEN BETTER!

I'm going to just pretend that you were just joking, because a sane person does not equate the medical care of the people who are in service to this nation though our armed forces to this 1000+ page monstrosity that is meant, in a loony person's fantasy, to insure 300+ million people.

That is the first thing you had said that I agree with, but this bill is NOT the answer. It is going to raise taxes on everyone and that is not the answer.

The insurance companies have been a convenient whipping boy but we all know by recent reports that their profits have not been exorbitant or out of line with corporate standards. Why is no one talking about Tort reform? Are you all ambulance chasing lawyers? When my Physician has to pay 50k a year for malpractice insurance...something is wrong. When Medicare fraud costs taxpayers billions of dollars annually...something is wrong. It's easy to blame the insurance companies but the problems run much, much deeper than that. Government controlled health care which is 1/6 of our entire economy will result in an economic disaster of epic proportion.

More bad news for Obama, he and fellow morons will not be able to side step the abortion issue, otherwise health care bill is dead.

So, Pelosi allowed Catholic Bishops to have imput. What would you have them to do, pretend they are Republicans? Sit back on their hands and let people suffer. Of course, they wanted a seat at the table. Healthcare WILL be a right for ALL Americans.

You can get healthcare now. You just cant get it by robbing your fellow Americans of their money and liberty...

Oh yeah that's probably the "right" you are so hoping to get.

So if I commit a crime in front of a cop and the cop says not to do it, I am not guilty because I let the cop have input. Maybe you should think about logic before posting.
Just because you don't think the republicans have done anything does not make it true. Both sides have gone back and forth for years on this issue.
Even if we assume you are correct, which you are not and the facts prove it, that Republicans have done nothing, isn't it stupid to use that as a reasoning for destroying health care and the economy?

This health care bill has nothing to do with actually helping others in need. It is a power grab perpetrated by those in Washington who have embraced European-style socialism. I wonder how many on the left who voted for Obummer actually are regretting it now? I predict an elephant stampede in the next congressional elections!
