Anthony (Gadsden District) is known to have taught many of the brightest students who have also made something of their lives. Unfortunately the majority of successful individuals move away from Anthony to go in to practice according to their chosen career. Due to this , Anthony tends to be forgotten by those who lived there and no one does anything good for Anthony. All of our people who can actually do something for Anthony are taking their money elsewhere and then complain why people speak so negatively about their hometown. I live in a nearby town and yet always find ways to get involved in helping the Anthony community. So people.....before you talk investigate and get your facts straight. That way you won't look like an ****. And EL PASO TX is even worse than Anthony. Arizona as well, I lived in Arizona in a high class area and it was still an awful place to live. At least Anthony might not be a great city on the Map, but it is at least quiet and peaceful now. And YES I said Anthony is a City because it is now a CITY! And No there are no Cholos, drug dealers or prostitutes on the streets like some ignorant imbeciles say there is.

Let's open up the whole state to Gambling, why not? Why should the casinos be restricted to Indian reservations?

The great social collapse that those who opposed the Indian casinos never happened, so now why not?

Las Cruces would become a tourist destination if we had a few casinos here, they just would not have to be as ostentatious as the ones in Vegas.

They can't build a casino in Las Cruces because there's no Indians there. They can only build casinos in NM on land that Indians own.

Why the sudden interest in Anthony? Does he plan to build Payday loan offices around the casino?
Plus Isnít the current mayor and a trustee in Anthony the community liaison for the developer and the tribe? I remember him on TV saying that he was speaking on the behalf of the community in support of the casino. And now he is mayor and his sister in law is a trustee how convenient is that for Jemez? I smell corruption is starting to rot Anthonyís new political future
Now that both are politicians in the city of Anthony the community needs to keep an eye out on those people.
How many politicians are loyal to the money than the community they supposedly represents. The rot of corruption with gambling and politics a Northern New Mexico tradition no in the southern part of the state.

This is not sudden. It's been in the mill for a couple of years.

Relax.

You can be sure no one will offer you a job so you can be free to generate your conspiracy theories and biased tabloid dribble.

Really......relax.

If you don't like casino gambling, stay home and percolate.
Really..... You'll be fine.

"Now that both are politicians in the city of Anthony the community needs to keep an eye out on those people."
I worked with Mr. Sal Gonzalez at Gadsden High School 30 some years ago, the voice for the casino in Anthony. He is nothing but a dumb jock bully who uses his wife to scare people into following their lies. While we worked at Gadsden, Sal assaulted a young teenager boy just because he wouldnít play football for Mr. Gonzalez. Shortly after he was asked to leave his job because of the assault.
What kind of man beats up a kid?
His brother also was a former county commissioner who sexually assaulted a county worker and the county had to pay for the liability of his actions.
And now the other brother is Mayor pushing the casino. The apple doesnít fall far from the tree.
I know that family as well from the area and they are nothing but a corrupt family never thinking about Anthpny only the next pay check.

Why not let the residents of Anthony, NM decide for themselves, instead of others trying to decide for what is good for Anthony. Take it to a vote.

Congratulations Einstein!!! How's your history? Since you seem to be a professional student maybe your next venture should be history. Maybe after taking some history lessons you'll come to realize that Anthony is within:

!!!APACHE TERRITORY!!!

The Ft. Sill and the Mescalero as well as any other Apache nation have the right to be there. You will also learn that the Apache were nomadic tribes as opposed to the Jemez. I have not studied the Jemez but as a Pueblo people it is probably safe to assume that they were already settled in what came to be their reservation.

You wouldn't like someone setting shop in your backyard. If I'm wrong tell me so that I can do a yard sell there. So why then is it correct to have another Indian nation invading the territory of another? But, if that's the way they want it, maybe another stronger nation like the Navajo can move in one their action. The is a famous quote by the Mexican President Benito Juarez who was a Zapotec Indian, it goes something like this:

"El respecto a lo ageno es la Paz"

Forgive me if it's not quoted correctly but I'm quoting out of memory. Basically for those who do not understand, it means: Respecting others property leds to peace.

The sunland park casino needs competition. That casino hardly ever pays ANYTHING out on their slot machines, their staff is rude and nasty, and the place is filthy most of the time. They act like they're doing you a favor to give you a watered-down coke while people are pouring money into that place. I know many (including myself) who have stopped going there for these reasons.

I say they need this casino badly in Anthony now, and hopefully it will give them a run for their money. At a minimum one would hope it would at least make them re-train their staff on a little customer service skills.

I could care less if one were built right next to the Sunland Park racetrack. My only concern are the Mescalero and the Ft. Sill Apache. That is their ancestral territory and they don't need another nation coming in and jeopardizing their interests.
