.

Ghetto is correct. The prison La Tuna is even in the vicinity. This town is full of ex-convicts.

First of all for all those Ignorant people....NO Anthony is not full of convicts and no it is not a ghetto town. Unfortunately Anthony has been neglected by the State and County. Now that the state has gotten more involved with Anthony things are looking up. FYI I used to live in Anthony NM and I am no Convict. I am a 26yr old with a Masters in Nursing, Bachelors in Criminal Justice and I graduate in December with a masters in pharmacology. How many people out there can actually complete all of this at such an early age? Anthony (Gadsden District) is known to have taught many of the brightest students who have also made something of their lives. Unfortunately the majority of successful individuals move away from Anthony to go in to practice according to their chosen career. Due to this , Anthony tends to be forgotten by those who lived there and no one does anything good for Anthony. All of our people who can actually do something for Anthony are taking their money elsewhere and then complain why people speak so negatively about their hometown. I live in a nearby town and yet always find ways to get involved in helping the Anthony community. So people.....before you talk investigate and get your facts straight. That way you won't look like an ass. And EL PASO TX is even worse than Anthony. Arizona as well, I lived in Arizona in a high class area and it was still an awful place to live. At least Anthony might not be a great city on the Map, but it is at least quiet and peaceful now. And YES I said Anthony is a City because it is now a CITY! And No there are no Cholos, drug dealers or prostitutes on the streets like some ignorant imbeciles say there is.

If you and Chip would use your heads, it is the closest to the Texas border. That's where most of the revenue to be made will be generated from. Not to mention Juarez as well. When it finally gets built, cruise outside the parking lot and look at the vehicle tags.

Anthony was farm heaven but the idiots gave up their farm land to build low income housing. El Paso and Las Cruces have dumped their garbage into that town, every criminal lands in Anthony sooner or later.

The tribe's request for a casino is being reconsidered by the federal government, after being stalled for more than two years, said former Las Cruces Mayor Ruben Smith, who advocates locally on behalf of Peters and the tribe.
What hole did Ruben come out of. I wonder if his payday loan company will finance the project.

didn't Fulton threaten to stop giving NMSU money if they built another Casino nearby. Thats alot of money (hence the Stan Fulton athletics building on the south end of the football field). And the casino will hurt local buisness.....look at the new Navajo casino in Gallup, it has hurt local buisness cost them millions. It will bring some alcohol an gambling probelms as well......but hell the tribe will be making millions!!!!!

Oh no Anthony is not full of convicts (they are not convicted, yet!)
Nah, it's not a ghetto town either,(been there lately?, I have and if it isn't, it sure looks like one)
I am a 26yr old with a Masters in Nursing, Bachelors in Criminal Justice and I graduate in December with a masters in pharmacology. How many people out there can actually complete all of this at such an early age?(Dont hurt your arm patting yourself on the back! You sound like others who brag on B.S. PHD's)
FYI I used to live in Anthony NM and I am no Convict (Just like I tell all the proud Mexicanos who love Mejico lindo, move back if it's so great)
Anthony (Gadsden District) is known to have taught many of the brightest students who have also made something of their lives.(Yeah, one of 'em even owns a Sonic drive)
Anthony tends to be forgotten by those who lived there (no they don't, that's why they don't live there)
I live in a nearby town and yet always find ways to get involved in helping the Anthony community.(cruising Sonic doesn't count as being involved in a community)
I lived in Arizona in a high class area and it was still an awful place to live.(well of course, your from Anthony, what would you know?)
Anthony might not be a great city on the Map, but (how do they designate great cities on maps?, I need one of those types of maps)

Tonta.

And No there are no Cholos, drug dealers or prostitutes on the streets like some ignorant imbeciles say there is.(are/is, what does it matter)(No cholos, drug dealers, or prostitutes in Anthony??? really, we are talking about Anthony, NM/TX, right?? The cholos are all busy at the rest area attacking passersby, the drug dealers are all in Wazoo gunning each other, and the prostitutes are all on sabbatical, righhhht.)

Things in this article don't measure up. For $60 million the tribe would be building a lot more than 43,000 sf casino. Yes they said a hotel but....

Go up north and see what they have built. If I was to support this project I would want to see guarantees, and not just talk.

The key to this article is the mention of a temporary casino. That means they are looking to erect a tent in a dirt parking lot. Not my idea of economic development.

Go sit in one of those casinos and you will see some of the saddest sights ever. It's the poor and elderly money they attract, who by the way are the least able to afford the spending.

And anyone who believes Smith is doing this for nothing, there is some beachfront property out near Anthony I could sell you.

Ahtnony is a terribly gang-infested and ghetto town, having a casino there might help economically. I hope they allow it, the SP casino totally sucks, need some competition.
