I believe the Dept of Interior took an old stance of the federal government that they know what is best for American Indians without substance, but personal, biased or political opinions. Special interests favorable to the Bush Administration is more likely the basis for the DOI decision, follow the money trail which will lead you to horse racing industry, etc.

WHY should a tribe be allowed to open and operate a casino on land that isn't even theirs?!? Personally, I think the casinos a a disgrace and a total blot on NM. This was a good decision. If this had gone through, what would keep a tribe in say, Florida from opening up a casino in Chimayo? Good job DOI!!

IF THE JEMEZ PUEBLO WANTS TO BUILD A CASINO TO PROVIDE JOBS AND INCOME TO THEIR OWN PEOPLE THEN THE CASINO NEEDS TO BE BUILT ON THEIR OWN RESERVATION. NOT ON LAND THAT IS NOT THEIRS! SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO IS APACHE TERRITORY NOT PUEBLO LAND. THEY NEEED TO STAY SOME WHERE CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL HOME LANDS. AND IF ITS GOING TO PROVIDE INCOME AND JOBS TO THE TRIBE IT NEEDS TO STAY ON THEIR RESERATION NOT ON STATE LANDS. A CASINO IN ANOTHONY NM IS NOT PROVIDING JOBS TO THE PUEBLO ITS IS ONLY PROVIDING JOBS FOR NON PUEBLOS. GOOD JOB DEPT OF THE INTERRIOR. AND I DO HAVE TO AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS THEY CVANT EVEN RUN THEIR OWN TRIBE ROPERLY SO WHAT MAKES THEM THINK THEY CAN HANDLE A CASINO? AND THE LAND ISSUE? ITS NOT EVEN THEIR ORIGINAL HOMELANDS.....

The jemez Pueblo governor does not know what he's talking about.
Yeap the casino will provide jobs for the mexican national that come over for jobs. The mexican nationals are allow to work 8 hrs and then go back to mexico. But they must have a pass.Yeap what revenue? Jemez will not see any revenue until the casino is paid for in full. That is about 15 to 20 years from now,and the present exiting jemez would have became a ghost town.

You would think that the existing casinos would share some of their bounty with Jemez Pueblo.

What shares? By the time the shares have been distributed to non tribal memmber investors members there would be no money left to be distributed to the tibal members at the bottom of the totem pole,as always!

I think all the negative people who appose the casino are a bunch of people who voted for bush. People that commented this , that the land does not belong to the tribe, Think people, just think a second, you are!!" living on Native American land yourself. All i can say is, all the negative people who commented on this against jemez, is or has been to one of the casino's here in the State of New Mexico. So all the local negative people should think before they say or put a tribe down. Tribes have been around before your time so i would just hush and think before you say anything. Jemez Pueblo will never be ghost town ever, so think, how long have we survied.?

I know the leaders of Jemez, their Pueblo and it's people. They are a very traditional, proud and mostly very poor people. I know the people from the community of Anthony and they are very proud and for the most part, very poor as well. In fact, Anthony is ranked as one of the poorest communities in our country. Casino gaming as a tribal enterprise was created by Congress in 1988 for Native American Indians to help their tribes get out of poverty and off their dependancy on the federal government. You have two very poor communities, Jemez and Anthony, and a means, casino gaming, to help both communities with their poverty situations. This is a very Republican idea where we let free enterprise create jobs and raise people from poverty. Does our Department Interior understand this concept? What is the Pueblo of Jemez to do if three studies that have been done that all say that gaming will not work on their reservation? They have tried many other enterprises on their lands over the years with little or no success.

The Jemez-Anthony casino projects is very unique because it helps two communities out of poverty without the tax payers footing the bill. I can not think of a more worthy project to have worked on. It's a very sad day in this country when it leaders turn their backs on helping people how only what to help themselves out of poverty.

These casino enterprises erase poverty and the Harvard University study shows this in great detail.

To Jemez Guy
I think you should be more productive at your local community. Invest locally where the tribal members are living and where they will benefit. Not where there is no community of yours. You have no business near mexico.Your tribe will be robbed blind. It's already happening and you are unaware. It's high speed out there. So think!!
