Martinez reiterated her support for the spaceport project, and said there would be a sense of urgency in filling the positions.
Apparently it was more urgent to leave it without leadership for weeks, or months.
"We already have a casino there. Having Union Pacific as something that is going to develop, economically, that area ... You already have a casino there, so are you just going to split the pie two ways?
What's wrong with a little competition?

The State of NM (NMSU) is in Sunland Park Race Track & Casion owner Stan Fulton's will. The State of NM (NMSU) gets half of Fulton's casino in his will if a second casino is no built in Dona Ana County.

Of course the new Gov. does not support a a second casino in the county!

I guess the Sun-New is not interested in reporting all of this along with Fulton's campaign contributions in this past eleection.

Ruben Smith and the Jemez tribe should stay in northern New Mexico. Anthony has its own Apache native blood that has been assimilated hundreds of years into the culture. This is not Jemez land, its not Ruben Smiths land, this homeland belongs to the tribe of Apaches in Anthony, its our land.

Apache's already have their own casinos. The Jemez are on lands not fit for a casino. So, Congress give them a way to apply for a casino off reservation. All the Jemez ever asked for is a fair chance for our people to have a better life. This Gov. killed that hope.

Could the reason the media will not report the truth about Mr. Fulton's unusual business dealings with New Mexico State is because his casino horse track business is a good client to the media? I noticed on one of the, so called, New Mexico news radio shows the host talks down the Anthony casino all the time. Guess who one of the main sponsors of the news radio show is? Yep ... you guessed it Sunland Park Casino.

I agree! You would think two casinos competing against each other, to bring mostly money from Texas where all the people are, would be a good thing for New Mexico.

More green money for our local tv, radio stations and newspapers more of that green money from Texas for the State of New Mexico right when money is getting hard to come by? Then there's the creation of new jobs from a second casino in our all ready poor and now near dead economy. You would think the local media and the new Gov. for Dona Ana would like the idea of a new casino in light of all this? That's not the case here.

My be there's more to this than we know about? Where's a good District Attorney and investigative newspaper report when you need them?

Why do we even need a good investigative reporter? All the facts are public!

1. Stan Fulton owns Sunland Park, and blackmailed NM State University into protecting his monopoly with a gift contingent on there being no competition for his casino.

2. The horse owners in Sunland Park, also supported by Fulton's business, are vocal against having a competitor for gambling that doesn't need horses.

3. Anthony, one of the poorest communities in the state, needs jobs and revenue, but Stan Fulton's monopoly doesn't want to compete for cheap labor, so he makes political contributions to keep things the way they are.

Mr. Fulton has the advantage: he was first, he is white, and he is well-funded.

Anthony’s Mayor Ray Gonzales and trustee Betty Gonzales refuse to speak to Anthony residents about our concerns and needs. Yet our mayor drives 300 miles to the Jemez tribe to listen to them about what is needed in Anthony. Who do they represent - the Jemez or the people of Anthony?

The dirty little secret about Sunland Park racetrack and casino is that more than half the workers that work there are from Texas.

There are 2 monthly meetings held in Anthony so that people can attend and voice their needs and concerns, but instead of attending those meetings you like to criticize the mayor and trustees. As for the mayor's visits to Jemez, he has never been there. He supports the casino because he knows that it is a good thing for Anthony, that it will bring jobs, which are sorely needed and will be good for the Anthony economy. In other words, he has not been bought by Mr. Fulton and never will be because he is a very good person and is doing the best that he can for his people.
