Just what budget suffering people with a limited knowledge of gaming need - another way to lose money they can't afford to lose. Spend it in the casino with a glimmer of hope that they will win; then go home and not be able to afford food, medical care, house payments or rent, auto insurance.
Yep, this will be good - time to start look for a business license as a repo man - then business will be booming and profits will be there!

Julio Inglesias, Loretta Lyn, Brett Michaels, Kansas, Clint Black are the acts currently booked at Inn of the Mountain Gods so far this summer. Casinos, if done right, can provide not only jobs, but entertainment that provides economic benefit to the entire community. Hotels, restaraunts, merchants, all benefit from increased revenue that a casino can help generate. Fulton is upset because his casino is a dump. It is over crowded, reeks of cigarette smoke, and caters only to the local, quarter dropping slot players that generate the most revenue for him.

The Sunland Park Casino is overcrowded and does not offer the comfort that any full servie casino would provide. Fulton does have a monopoly in the slot machine business for this part of the state and once you count the quarters dropped in the slots they amount to millions of $$$ yearly. There would be nothing wrong with a casino in Anthony. A casino would help that community. The ones who would probably suffer are the Sunland Park City officials who get their cut off the top once Fulton takes his part. After all, less quarters would be dropped at Sunland Park once the Anthony Casino is operational.

Kill the city of Sunland Park so Anthony can grow?

I don't know if I should laugh or feel sorry for the residents of Anthony, NM. They are under the belief that the Jemez are going to ride into town like a knight in shining armor and save them. Please put down the peyote that you're smoking and consider this:
According to today's (4/21/2011) article in the El Paso Times:
"Jemez officials have said the pueblo, which lies far from any major highways or urban centers, is in dire need of the revenues casino gambling can bring to help lower a chronic unemployment rate of 50 percent, among other needs."
Now, aren't casinos supposed to give the Native Americans hiring preference? I do believe that it would create new jobs but not for the people of Anthony but for the Jemez.
If the Jemez are so broke, where are they coming up with all the money to build a casino and hotel? I do believe that they received some money from the federal government for reforestation.
But that's not all:
Last year, they were unable or unwilling to have their own children trick-or-treat in the reservation stating something to the effect that their streets were not safe. They couldn't close a road and hire police officers for a few hours so that their own children could celebrate Halloween. If they are reluctant to spend a little on their own children what makes the people of Anthony think that the Jemez will be more generous with them.
I do believe that Pueblo Gov. Toledo stated that they were not going to celebrate it also for cultural and also I believe Christian reasons.
I was under the belief that Pueblo Indians had a better understanding of their culture and religion in comparison to the nomadic tribes.
All I can say is that the Apache who are the native inhabitants of this region have their own creation story. Usen is the creator--Christianity came along later with the White Man.
Throughout history this area was part of Apacheria. I know that some people would rather rewrite history to suit their needs but it doesn't work that way.
Now if you want an Indian casino why not ask the Mescalero or the Ft. Sill Apache who already have land in Akela, NM to consider Anthony instead of antagonizing the Apache.
