Thank you for your helpful information Whichywoman. If I have learned one thing from our discussion boards it is not to take the Brunswick police and it's resources lightly. I didn't know about the training center located there either. I am also impressed by the airtight lid they have kept on this crime. The information I read is from "press releases (and very few of this case) No one is releasing any information in advance of the trial they don't want released. You may take this professionalism for granted but in Boston there would be a damned circus of politicians and the DA; who happens to be running for Senate- talking trying to advance their own careers, giving press conferences and leaking information (some true, some they would get wrong) if hey thought it would help THEM. The hell with the integrity of the case they would be busy grandstanding. Sorry Boston if you think that's harsh but I've lived here a long time.

You have an excellent Police Department, DA and Court system in Brunswick. I grossly underestimated them.

Just my opinion I still think Guy Heinze is innocent. I will be waiting for that CSI moment during the trial.

Finally! Looks like I am not the only one who thinks the police agencies involved got the right man. To Sunshine - were you being sarcastic with your "State and alcohol" analogy? You don't really think that do you? Does anyone else posting on this case realized that the premier law enforcement training center in the world is located in Brunswick Georgia? And they train federal agencies in forensics, gathering evidence, so on and so forth.......
And I agree with GHoward - poverty is not a crime. Many impoverished Americans struggle daily, and their homes are spotless, their children well cared for, and the strongest thing you will find in their medicine cabinets is Advil.

GHoward, the voice of reason. When this atrocity first occured it riled us all to be portrayed as a small bumpkin Gawja town complete with "Good Ol Boy" cops. In fact, that could not be further from the truth. This area includes St. Simons Island and Sea Island, one of the wealthiest enclaves on the east coast. There are many resources on hand at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center which employs hundreds of law enforcement experts in their respective fields. The Chief of the Glynn County Police has handled the departments' investigation very well. The trial will be heart rending, no one nurtures the belief that one of their own is capable of performing such acts, but all murderers were once someone's precious little baby. CSI moments are sure to follow!

Why is this man dead?...and over a sign in his own yard. This death should never have occurred. I'm really curious about Georgia's Law Enforcement training. Someone on these boards said that the motto "To protect & to serve" means nothing to officers. http://jacksonville.com/news/georgia/2009-09-...

It really bothers me when people are labeled as trash just because they are poor...that is so wrong. There are trashy people from all walks of life, all colors, nationalities, rich & poor. The term "trashy" is a one-size-fits-all thing. I guess some people need to tare-down & destroy others in order to feel good about themselves & that allows the true character of someone to show through, that's my opinion.
I so agree Sunshine..
I do not like to hear Thrashy, Poor any of these terms.
My mother had always stated they are nothing cheaper than a bar of Ivory Soap..The family might of been poor but all the pictures they looked like they had good hygiene

I dislike when someone is callously mistreated & disregarded as human on account of being less fortunate. When this story broke, name calling seemed to be the only thing the majority of bloggers was interested in.

This man is dead because : "he had been alternately brandishing a rifle and large butcher knife while threatening to kill police". While you are researching, you might want to check out a use of force case called Graham v Conner. That case set the parameters for use of force for law enforcement. In effect, the officer need not "fear for his or her life" and furthermore the officer does not have to be "shot or stabbed" in order to react to the threat. And no, the officer has no duty to protect and serve. That is a fallacy, and just looks good painted on crusier doors. What would you have done in that situation Sunshine? Poked a flower in the barrel of the suspects gun and sang a rousing rendition of Kumbaya?

If there is a law against for sale signs on your own property then the laws need to change. He should have been given a citation through the mail, then this tragedy would not have happened...he would still be alive. I see this as law enforcement being overzealous. I find it ridiculous that law enforcement uses protect & serve as a motto since you pointed out that there is no DUTY to do so. What a sick joke...

Enough of this Monday morning quarterbacking. I think that all the cop bashing, bleeding heart, make a sign, change a law- people should do just one twelve hour shift in a patrol car. Just one shift mind you. Is there a City-sins police academy down in the pedophile mecca of florida near you Sunshine? You really should educate yourself a little more on laws and law enforcement. And how about a little compassion for the officer that was forced- through no action on his part- to take a persons life. I don't see any joke in this situation, sick or otherwise.

The officer was not "forced" to take that mans life, like I stated before the offender should have received a citation, but instead the law enforcement CHOOSE to ESCALATE the situation.

Compassion? Law enforcement shows NO compassion for others. Compassion & thankfulness should be shown for our BRAVE SOLDIERS that are serving the U.S.A. I think there are people in law enforcement that believe "THEY ARE ABOVE THE LAW". No-one forces anyone into law enforcement & they receive a paycheck for services performed...to protect & to serve, you let the cat out of the bag on that one...

Are you insane? Really? Do you have any idea how many of those BRAVE SOILDERS come home and become BRAVE POLICE OFFICERS? Check your facts Hon, or ask your parents. I have grown weary of having a battle of wits with an unarmed person. If you have something intelligent to say about this case, or if you hear someone else say something intelligent and want to repeat it, I will respond. Until then, here's hoping you never need help from law enforcement, because they will come, risking their safety for someone who doesn't give a rip.

You know, I almost didn't respond back to this little dig, because it is blatantly obvious to anyone reading this thread that you are ignorant about things you choose to "talk" about. Apparently you have never heard of Graham v Connor and that officers don't have to wait to be SHOT or CUT or RUN OVER or anything else BEFORE they respond. The gentleman in question made a decision that day that cost him his life. Tragic, yes. Uncalled for? Absolutely. Maybe HE could have prevented it by following all the CITATIONS that were DELIVERED to him by the zoning ordinance before he attacked them, forcing them to call for help from the police. You really suck as a researcher - get all the facts next time.

Intelligence is obviously something YOU lack...you obliviously feel the need to attack others & YOU ARE NOT HELPING PEOPLE TO SEE OFFICERS IN A GOOD LIGHT.

This is great stuff Sunshine, I like how they had no jurisdiction to keep the man from putting his signs on his own private property but decided to gun him down anyways. You can't always trust police, it's sad but true. We would like to be able to tell our children that the police are the good guys, but more often than not they really aren't. It's more about politics than it is serving the public. Which is really too bad considering the PUBLIC foots the bill.

I'm concerned about this Guy Hienze case as well. The court case should be very interesting and I hope they do have some real CSI moments. Do you think they would make a career ending move if they didn't? Of course they would, its a cops word over a civilians and even if they are wrong they are right. Sad...

WichyWoman you certainly are aggresive and seem to be terribly offended by Sunshine asking questions. To bad she isn't conditioned to go with the flow like you good ole Brunswick Gawja folks. Some people just don't know when to sit down and shut up, eh?*rolls eyes* You seem to be so damn sure of Guys' guilt, if it were your son accused of murder would you still have so much faith in your precious police force?
