I dunno who owns it, but would probably be a decent place for metal detecting. I just wonder how deep everything would be because I bet that field has been tilled quite a bunch since the mid-late 1800s.

You might be able to find out by checking the courthouse for property deeds?

The skirmish at Mossy Creek would have seen troop movements all up and down near the railroad tracks, hwy 92, and according to the maps, a couple/few miles out N. Chucky Pike.

I think keith rugel owns that property. If not, he could probably tell you who does. He lives in the house beside it.

The "Civil War trail" pamphlet shows that there was an earthenwork or entrenchments in Strawberry Plains.Could find out the location and try Google Earth view to see if any ground disturbance in that area is visible. It should be visible if in an open field.

CivilwarFreak...you can easily find out who owns any piece of property with your computer. There is a site called Tn GIS mapping. Select the County, type in the address and it will give you detailed info about the property, such as ownership, property lines, ect. You can also see an earth view image of the property and you can zoom in.Just saying, its a handy tool.

I have seen someone out metal detecting next to WalMart within the past couple of weeks since they've gotten it cleared out over there.

I dunno if they had permission or not, but I'd be willing to bet that if you cruised through there during business hours you could find out from the guys doing the excavating if it's ok or at least who to ask permission from.

Best of luck!

I have metal detected their in the past, at the moment they are putting in a shoping center, Tom Roberson use to own the property not sure if he still does. I detected and found a vermont civil war button that was appraised around $300.00 bucks about 6 years ago.. Only find that I had found on that location but that was before they started moving dirt. I know another location at mossy creek where i uncovered 3-4 civil war bullets.
