Yes, Rusty resigned and apparently is doing well and is very happy. It was past time for him to step down, not because of the DUI, but he was burned out. Also, as far as the second, most recent DUI charge goes, I have heard that the blood test came back well below the legal limit, so he wasn't guilty of DUI.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim 3:16-17 NKJV

Rusty's had a contentious relationship with his dad. His dad had many, many emotional and mental problems stemming from his background including serving active duty. There was unrelenting poverty. He was once beaten for eating bread. He was determined through sheer willpower to work his way out of it. He collected bottles on the side of the road to turn in for deposit so he could help feed me-his sister--in the summers. He worked at the local store from the time he was 12. His grades were high and he held on to that. He made something out of his life and pulled himself out of abuse and terrible poverty. I don't even know how he did it. I will tell you that all my Christmas toys came from his money or I wouldn't have had much of anything. Rusty's dad died alone in a room with him. He had us all leave so that he could do what the nurses and doctors wanted--turn the morphine up--as dad was suffering severely. Some family members, well-meaning, wanted to keep him alert but Rusty's background in nursing told him dad was in too much pain. It was obvious to me as well. I think this incident impacted him severely. Did anyone notice he couldn't and didn't give a speech about his father at the funeral? It was too emotional. He was crushed. He went through a terrible time and the church wasn't there emotionally to pull him through. They judged him (gleefully) instead. He's doing fine now and has always been a valuable nurse who moves up the ranks quickly because of his skills. I hope he has friends left around there who will support him even though he isn't at the church anymore. Personally, I do not attend church, mostly because I don't usually like people who go to church. Some are kind and good-hearted, but too many are arrogant and sanctimonious. I didn't want to be a part of it. It was a concern for Rusty always that I turned away from the church, but watching this from afar, I have no regrets. This church has every right to have someone lead them that they feel comfortable with and I have no beef with their decisions. I will say this, though, I've been around long enough to see people rise, fall, rise, fall. There are no guarantees that the salaries and the marriages and the jobs and the safe children will all be there forever. That's why I believe in always supporting and forgiving. Rusty saw that my father wasn't able to father and he jumped in and tried to father me at the tender age of 12. I don't think anyone here knows the innate goodness of this man. He kept me from going down some dangerous paths in my teen years. He was a good example for me despite these recent incidents, which I"m positive came about after spending a night alone with his dying father--a father who never told him he loved him and never showed him love. I've said way too much here.

They better keep their eyes open at the hospital he works at because the next step after alcholism is stealing them drugs and such. He was hired to lead and he failed...plain and simple. He may have been a good man growing up, but it's not like he is working at Wal-Mart. He was a PREACHER. Do you understand? They forgave him once, but he had the nerve to do it again. Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out! "Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?" "Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?" For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen. Rom 11:33-36 NIV

To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself:'God, I thank you that I am not like other men — robbers, evildoers, adulterers — or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.' "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said,'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.' "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted." Luke 18:9-14 NIV

Every person is a sinner....we have to ask for forgiveness from our heavenly Father! As long as we do that and know within our own heart that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, we will see the gates of heaven. I am confident that my friend will be entering those gates oneday. He is a good man...everyone makes mistakes, noone is perfect except God! Why throw a stone at this man, when all of you all still have a speck in your own eye?? Let it go, and move on...give him some peace to get through this please!!
