Missouri Dental Board

I wonder if a 'higher power' has any idea in reference to the actions of the MO Dental Board- It is a joke! The biggest problem is trying to find out where or to whom you report it to??? They consume hundreds of thousands of state dollars and spend most of it on entertaining themselves and presenting each other with awards at each meeting. They simply decide which dentist they will 'get it in for' and drive them into the ground and out of business if they can accomplish it. I have worked in several dentist offices and have personally witnessed the harrassment of two of the very best and most educated dentists in the state. When I started looking into it, it appears that several dentists in the southeast missouri were targeted and harrassed while a fellow dentist from southeast missouri served as board president!?!? What did they all have in common- they were all general dentists who did not refer patients to this oral surgeon who was serving as board president. I know at least two of them are the best in the area and are still going through hell because of the constant battering by the board. It appears this board uses its power to 'go after' the doctors with whom they have a personal problem. They send their flunkies to these dentists office and they don't stop until they find something they can twist enough to file a complaint- usually has to do with paperwork and not dentistry. In a tag-team effort they usually get the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs involved so they can assist in the harrassment and two agencies charge the doctor for the same thing. When you read their meeting reports(most of which are conducted while in 'closed session'), its the same dentists who appear for disciplinary hearings over and over-why? Go figure... Furthermore, I did research on dentists who had to appear for hearings and proved myself correct. When you put it on a map- you can't deny the facts. It seems that for a period of a couple of years the only 'bad' dentists fell perfectly on a line from St. Louis following 55South to Cape, Scott City, and Sikeston- the same area the board president was from. Other parts of the state didn't have the same 'bad dentist' problem. I will not stop with this until I get some answers and someone pays attention. The same people have been on the Dental Board for years- they just change around who does what from time to time. Time For Change? New faces and some ethics would do wonders for the dental profession in Missouri. We are short on dental professionals in our state and we need a Dental Board who focuses on retaining the very best dentists instead of trying to run them off! Someone needs to pay attention and review their actions!!! Who do you file a complaint with?

Try to find someone who cares.

The overworked underpaid state workers are getting ready to be laid off. What a nice show of appreciation for working your butt off for very low pay.

Be thankful you have a job and can afford a dentist.

Bewsides, everyone knows people from Southeast Missouri don't have very many teeth.

Well Jay, a.k.a. Dr. Sheets, former dental board president, only you would jump to your own defense with such an unprofessional comment. Of course those of us who know you are not surprised that you don't care and are arrogant enough to post it. I wasn't sure about the comments in the first post, but your response would lead one to believe it is accurate. If so, the state should do something about it.

'Newstips' I can be very helpful in regard to Missouri dental board information. There are numerous problems in the way they operate this so-called 'protect the public' agency. I have proof of unethical behavior by the board members, as well as investigators. I witnessed investigator Mark D. telling dental assistants how much and when to prescribe meds! This same person threatened to 'take' a dental assistants license if she didn't "give him something" bad to report on the dentist she was working for and followed it up by saying that if the doctor didn't call him by the end of the day- he would "make something up" to tell the board members- and that is exactly what he did. Protect the public? I think not! This dentist started having a problem when a competitor became a board member- and it has been lies and unethical behavior for years! I am also curious about Nancy Wisdom- not sure how an attorney can file any kind of charges totally based upon what an investigator 'witnessed'. Missouri dentists need to know that they shoud never agree to be on probation- they then tell you that by 'agreeing' to be on probation, you gave up all constitutional rights and have no protection from unlawful and unwarranted searches. They use it to- without cause or complaint- frequently 'take' numerous patient records while fishing for anything they can twist into some kind of 'violation'. Dentists should refuse every request unless accompanied by a court ordered demand for the information- which will state scope and relevance and signed by a judge.

It's very simple, the complaint is to be filed with the Missouri Dental Board, not with a Dentist personally on the Board. There is a protocal to follow. There are "Those" who try to go around this.

The Missouri dental board is a sad case of ego driven power. I know the board has many past members who were honest decent people, but now, the current members are out of control. Never, ever agree to any form of discipline unless you have a qualified attorney representing you. I almost made that mistake. Thank god I didn't. They get you on their hit list with a bullseye on your back. Get a good lawyer. They will handle it. Sleep good at night. They are all bark - no bite. Practice ethical dentistry and enjoy your life.
