Word has it that Carrot Top has taken up residency in Minnesota to run for govenor - that would complete the trifecta of clowns my fellow Flatlanders love to elect.

Joe, The Village Idiot, will sign his name to anything some other bum writes. Here are some interesting thoughts about those good ole days and your man Clapp.
1. A certain disease is named after this very active fellow. You might have heard it when you were a kid when your father gave it to your mother.
2. In Clapp days remember who got to vote and who could not or not be able to get to the polls because they were closed.
A. Males only.
B. Whites only.
C. Had to 21 or older.
D. Working class white males over 21 had to be at work before the polls were open and had to work past poll closing time. No time allowed to go vote.
..........
some of the readers will get the message but the village will not.

It's nice, for once, to see Joe write favorably about one of the pioneers of Minnesota's progressive movement.

Senator Clapp was a staunch ally of the progressive Senator Robert LaFollette. He broke with pro-business Taft Republicans and was one of the first of the "Peace Progressives".

Anti-progressive Republicans back in Minnesota, however, denied him the Republican renomination in favor of a big-business stalwart Pierce Butler. Even though, Clapp didn't return to the Senate, his successes and stature gave a big boost to the Farmer-Labor movement, which eventually merged to form the DFL.

So thanks for the mad props to the lefties, Joe!

Chickenhawk; an immediate ad hominem attack means that the person you are addressing is correct on all their points, and that you have nothing to defend your position with. It is my observation of this board that almost without exception those that use "hawk" or "eagle" as part of their screen names are in fact either chickenhawks, or yellow elephants. If you are that much of a hawk, I understand that both the Army and the Marines are still hiring for positions in Iraq and Afganistan.

Well, FIB, you really have me there. Color me guilty of throwing an ad-hominem towards some little DemocRATlett going straight towards someone else's parentage.

You corrupt. Chicago machine trash type are just too clever for me...

Maybe Joe could write his next column on the governers you chumps elect, and how today's governors compare to previous ones...in the lengths of prison times served.

Chump.

Didn't the legislatures appoint Senators until 1913. So apparently the elections that Clapp won were not binding? Just asking.

My recollection is that Moses Clapp was instrumental in parting Indians from their land and in particular their timber interests. Moses made a lot of money this way.

I apologize for calling you a chickenhawk, it should have been obvious from your sole spark of creativity (democRAT) that you are in fact a yellow elephant. Again my apologies to any chickenhawk that I insulted. Apparently you have no comprehension of corrupt politics or you would have known about Minnesota politics in the 20's and the 30's that makes Chicago look like a virgin. There were a number of issues that you could have raised about Senator Clapp, but you chose an ad hominem attack instead, lazy or stupid?? Don't know and don't care.

So what's your point, chumplett? That Minnesotans booted their corrupt trash out of office, 80 years ago, while you FIB DemocRATletts continue to embrace corrupt trash, to this day? Kind of hard to pull your point out of that namecalling screed and whining about namecalling.

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Capricorn

Self deception will be the main issue today. You may be judging your situation wrongly: don't hold back, say what you think diplomatically and without being hurtful. This should result in a positive mental outlook for you. Competitive sports activity will ease any stress or tension.
