Jean Lafitte, is a small fishing community that contributes a tremendous amount to Jefferson Parish as well as the rest of the state.The seafood and oilfield industries both use Lafitte to gain access to the fishing grounds and oilfields.I believe It would be ashame if the goverment did not do something to build the levee system to make Lafitte A little better protected from this water surge that has been created by the oil compainies that dug the canals to allow salt water in and kill the marsh.Everyone received the bennifits from this but only coastal communities have to deal with the four to ten feet of water every storm we get, that digging these canals has caused.And in the event we get A Cat 4 or above storm Lafitte may not exist any more.I hope something can be done before the next storm.
