There was a big market for buggy whips at one time too Jack. People change, priorities shift, and NOTHING is EVER as good as it used to be.

Jack I feel the same way you do. The bridge should NOT be torned down. JUST REPAIRED. It's been there for all these years why not longer. I knew if TDOT ever closed it they would tear it down.Don't know what can be done NOW to keep it.

Who do you suggest pays for the continued upkeep of this bridge? Historic? Yes. An outdated dangerous dinosaur? Yes. The state, county, or any city in Marion County does not have the money to keep it up AND IT WOULD BE NOTHING MORE THAN A LIABILITY IF THEY DID. You should feel lucky they decided to build a new one. Please stop this worrying about an old bridge and just keep it in your memories. LET IT GO, JACK.

That BRIDGE is a DEATH TRAP . It should have been gone years ago . Two ten speed bikes can hardly pass on it without hitting their handlebars . Our roads and bridges need to keep up with the times . TN has drug its feet long enough . TN needs to update all its rds and bridges . They have waited so long on updating I-24 between Nashville and Chattanooga that if they started today and added 2 more lanes on both sides it would be outdated by the time they got it finished .

...must end at some point. Infrastructure can only be patched so many times before having to be replaced. There are ways to preserve some entities, but it is very costly. At this point it would be a burden on the local/state gov't to preserve the old bridge. It's more cost effective to build a new bridge than preserve the old one and continue patching the structure. If left with the option of increasing taxes or letting the bridge hit the water... I think most of us would agree that it SHOULD hit the water.

Have you tried contacting the historical society? They might could help If they consider it a historical landmark they will have it state funded to upkeep. If not you could always pay for the upkeep and insurance and all that yourself since its so important to you.

OLD HALETIOWN BRIDGE SHOULD REMAIN IN PLACE 9why teyt tdot of tn ran new bridge into delappilated 41 is beyond my wilsest dreams this project is a 100 thousand project is it feasible thinj not (cannot afford to upkeep old bridge sand spend this much is redicilous redicilous , do not know if anyone feels the same or not but put this money on another lane to interstate would be more feasible in my book. if anyone would send me an e-mail stating more important facts let them fly i'll ttry oo reply, i just feel this is an unfesable project.
