Tactics from The Wire used to contact Edward Snowden (YouTube/Snowden)
Tactics from The Wire used to contact Edward Snowden (YouTube/Snowden)

The Guardian is using tactics from the police TV series The Wire to stay in contact with NSA hacker Edward Snowden, it has been claimed.

The newspaper is reportedly using pay-as-you-go mobile phones that are untraceable to keep in touch with Snowden, who has been missing since he told the Guardian the US government is able to spy on people around the world through its Prism programme.

According to the UK Press Gazette Editor Alan Rusbridger and other executives have been given pay-as-you-go phones to keep in touch with Snowden.

However, the Guardian refused to confirm or deny the allegation, saying it "wouldn't comment on any security measures the group takes".

Whether the Guardian is actively in touch with Snowden and aware of his location is also unknown.

The US has issued a warrant for Snowden's arrest last week but he was able to leave China because paperwork issued by the states was incomplete. No one is entirely sure where Snowden is now.

Protect the helpless

He was believed to have travelled to Russia, with the intention of going to Equador to gain asylum. However, he never boarded a flight to Cuba and Russian president Vladimir Putin said he is somewhere in to Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport.

Venezuelan president Nicholas Madura has said he would consider giving Snowden asylum but stressed he has not yet formally sought refuge in his country.

"We would consider it, because the asylum is a measure of humanitarian protection and is a mechanism of the international humanitarian law, which is popular in Latin America and was always used to protect [the] helpless," Maduro said.

"No one has the right to spy after someone else and this youngster [Snowden], who told the world about it, deserves humanitarian protection."

Anti-secrecy group WikiLleaks has said it is facilitating Snowden's travel and asylum arrangements but said he could end up in Russia permanently because of "bullying" on the part of the US government.

President Obama, who is currently on a visit to South Africa, said he will not "scramble jets" to intercept Snowden: "No, I am not going to be scrambling jets to get a hacker," he said. "I have not called President Xi personally or President Putin personally. I shouldn't have to.

"This is something that routinely is dealt between law enforcement officials in various countries."

Thank you for posting that.

Now my question is, who's financing him? He made a good salary, but he only worked at that job for a few months and what money he saved has got to be starting to run low.
So, when his money runs out, what's he going to do?This Globe-trotting will eat it up in a hurry, I would think.
And is a "pay-as-you-go" cellphone the same thing as a "Pre-paid" cellphone?

Edward Snowden, the whistleblower who exposed a secret US internet surveillance programme, could be put on a private jet and flown to sanctuary in Iceland if its government grants him asylum, according to an Icelandic businessman with links to the transparency site Wikileaks.
The Icelandic government has refused to say whether it would grant asylum to Snowden, the former National Security Agency adviser wanted in the US on espionage charges and believed to be at large in Hong Kong.
The businessman, Olafur Vignir Sigurvinsson, said he had put a private plane at Snowden's disposal in China, for use at a moment's notice.
Sigurvinsson said: "We have made everything ready at our end now. We only have to wait for confirmation from the [Icelandic] Interior Ministry.

"A private jet is in place in China and we could fly Snowden over tomorrow if we get positive reaction from the Interior Ministry.
"We need to get confirmation of asylum and that he will not be extradited to the US. We would most want him to get a citizenship as well."
Sigurvinsson, a former director of DataCell, a company which processed payments for WikiLeaks, said contact had been opened with the Icelandic government, but that nothing short of an asylum guarantee, or citizenship, would ensure Snowden's safety.
"If he hasn't done it already, he is probably in the process of applying for citizenship," Sigurvinsson said.
Authorities in Iceland maintained a diplomatic silence on the matter.

Now, my question is, what is this Icelandic Business doing this for? Is it Ideology, or for some other reason? Does he want something from Snowden and if so, what is it?

This is the same Iceland that stood by the people of Iceland and told the Banksters to go to hell, that the people would not bail them out.
The UK put them on the terror list with Al Qaeda because of this, yet Iceland continued to stand up for what was right.
I had read somewhere that one of the parliament members had said she would give Snowden asylum. An organization for the protection whistle blowers is in Iceland.
I'm hoping Iceland stands up again for what's right.

What kind of water head ASKS the government into their lives???
What kind of double mental midget asks the government into their private personal bedroom lives???

That right there should tell you something about the mental disorder of the gay community.

I and most of America don't really care what someone does in their private bedroom lives as long as it is between consenting Adults and I don't have to know about it, be involved in any way, or pay for it.

Where America has gone off its rocker is believing the LIE that every stupid little issue is a RIGHTS issue and needs the government to be involved.

Nowhere in the Constitution does it say anything about a RIGHT to .... healthcare, marriage, gay marriage, abortion, housing loans, student loans, lifestyle, other peoples money.....

The list is insane and most of it boils down to THEFT. Using government to steal something you didn't earn, don't qualify for, or don't belong to.

Thats my .02 Now I am going to sue the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders for discrimination for excluding an old grumpy white guy from the all girl dressing room. I want equal rights!!

Of course it's wrong , if it's a Rasmussen Poll, the Premier Conservative Polling Group. Everybody knows that...except for you Far-Tight Wing TEApublicans...just like they know Fox Fake News isn't REAL News!
You Guys will NEVER learn because you "can't handle the truth"! Otherwise, you wouldn't have been so positive that you were going to win the Presidential Election, last year...nor so disappointed when you DIDN'T! And yet, you still keep believing the same People and Sources that set you up for a BIG FALL, last time.
It's your choice to live in denial, and you do it so well. But, the rest of us REALLY get tired of your constant "whining" when that BIG FALL happens...and you never learn from it! You just keep repeating the same mistakes, because of trusting and believing the Wrong People!
The very least you could do is read and consider other POVs, for your own sanity, but you won't. So, the only conclusion that I can come to, is that you love being disappointed and you think you will get sympathy when that happens, even though none of us sympathize with you because you brought it all on yourselves!
You better wake up and smell the coffee, is all I can tell you!
Oh, and one more thing, the People who ALWAYS tell you ONLY what you want to hear, are not doing it because they truly believe it, they are doing it to use and manipulate you for their own Self-serving reasons! Remember that...because it's true in your Business Life, in your Political Life, and in your PERSONAL Life! The quicker you realize that and learn to "spot" the Ones doing it, the better off you'll be.
Oh yeah we can look forward to increased IRS snooping, Nsa Listening, THe attorney General throwing the nations laws out the window, 20 million new citizen all illegal that bring higher unemployement, lower wages (if I can get them legally for $7 -$9 dollars/hr why get a person like yourself,oh yeah, more babies being killed, murderers, thugs, thieves set loose, elections distorted, bigger labor unions( card system enacted), small businesses put out of business, more people on welfare, food stamps, child subsidies, college subsidies, higher electric bills (shut down of coal plants, drilling of natural gas and oil), higher gas bills (shutdown of pipeline from Canada), more money being printed (leads to you money buying less), higher inflation, higher interest rates (if they stop printing money), more home loans to people who cannot afford them, bailout of liberal states gone bankrupt, bailout for those people who bought homes they could not afford, total destruction of Israel, implementation of Shirea Law, More drugs passing over border, total breakdown of military (can use high tech to defend nation), condemnation and destruction of those whose who do not agree with liberal principles, disappearance of religion (churches will no longer have tax exempt status if they do not marry gays, etc.), religious sued for failing to allow the churches to marry gays, etc, bestiality, polygamism, full blown socialism in 15 more years and another revolution (if we are not attacked by stronger forces since we will no longer have a good military), nations police work overtaken by the United Nations and on.... and on..... and on..... This is what you want Sassy???????? Its whats coming via your liberal pals.. I would be very afraid if I were you and them. I am.

If it was "fixed, uniform, permanent," we would still have slavery, women wouldn't be allowed to vote, etc.

""IF ZIMMERMAN GET OFF, IMA GO KILL A WHITE BOY": TRAYVON MARTIN SUPPORTERS MAKE SHOCKING THREATS AHEAD OF VERDICT"

Twitter has been buzzing with death threats against Zimmerman (and random white people…and for the truly ambitious, an “hispanic/white” person) if the verdict isn’t guilty as charged in the murder trial in which Zimmerman is pleading self-defense in his fatal shooting of Martin.

The Constitution was never meant to outline the rights of citizens. The Constitution was designed to limit the power of government.

It does not say that you do have a right to free speech. It says "Congress shall make no law".

It does not say that you have the right to keep arms, it says "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed," meaning that congress shall make no law.

Can you imagine if we threw the Constitution out, and made a new one? Maybe they could use the new line which is we'll read it after we pass it.

And it would be 100,000 pages.

I would think small government conservatives would support said government granting rights rather than taking them away. I suppose all this "freedom" they constantly scream about is reserved for white, heterosexual, conservative Republicans, huh? Is your marriage somehow magically weakened or less precious because of this? How are your rights threatened by this?

It almost seems like the conservative "Christians" are coveting marriage for themselves. How convenient that this group tries to make laws against homosexuals enjoying secular American rights, but they haven't yet tried to criminalize coveting or make adultery a capital crime.
