I'm a near 33 year ex-employee of Kimball.Imagine I got too expensive and not enough 'Kimball politically correct' for them.
My relationship with the company was like a bad marriage where I didn't have it in me to divorce them. They finally filed and it was the best thing that happened to me. Sometimes the grass is actually greener on the other side.
Bad marriage is a perfect example. I would say working for Kimball is like having a "Trophy" husband or wife. You do everything to suck up to them and please them. When they dump you, you suddenly feel a deep sense of relief; like you have gotten your soul returned.
After you get over the shock of the whole thing you realize getting rid of the psycho b!tch you kept trying to please was the best thing that ever happened to you; and that you now have have your life back!

"Kimball's Open Door Policy

Kimball International's "Open Door" Policy, which is included in the Employee Handbook, provides an open invitation for feedback and discussion. The term "open door" is viewed at Kimball as a recognized right of admittance, the freedom of access to leaders, all in the spirit of our open, non-defensive communication beliefs. We truly believe that to be successful, we need the free exchange of ideas, information and discussion with all employees. Open, honest, and non-defensive communication facilitates the continuous improvement of our company. Employees are encouraged to talk to anyone, at any time, on any idea, issue or concern, starting the dialogue with their immediate supervisor at their location and expanding as necessary."

This open door policy go me removed. A long timer had singled me out and was causing me an enormous amount of grief. He put me in a situation which was not legal nor safe; a position which could not continue. I was put in an impossible box!

When my supervisor asked how it was going, I said not good and I don't know why. Some one is making things very difficult and I don't know why.

The following day I was told I need to get along or I won't be here. No explanation was given. No details were given. I was told I was the problem and given no reason why.

This was brought up at my review. I was scolded and my job threatened again with no reason or details given. It was a situation where I was doing my best to kiss ass and get along and it wasn't working.

There are some things illegal and not safe I am not willing to do.

I was eventually let go with no reason or details given! Ironically when I was let go I was unaware there was even a conflict going on.

I have never seen such a childish or clickish group.

If you believe this open door policy I got a bridge to sell you!

I have a farming and pilot friend who has been posting about Kimball on the Yahoo finance board for many years. He is a prolific investor. He and his brothers are really caught up in the whole investing thing. I don't think he has ever had anything good to say and he is about as close to an insider as you can get.
Sounds a little like inside trading!!!

When people are treated poorly, the reputation of the company suffers. This world is a small world. I know my previous supervisor is not well thought of in our industry; an industry where everyone knows everyone. I was warned of his incompetence before I went to Kimball and now everyone has said "I told you so".

Incompetent people in leadership positions; no matter how charismatic they may be, just treat people like crap. It is the very nature of a charismatic incompetent boob.

I really like the enrichment meetings. You are pulled form your department, put in a group and ask to partake in activities. It really gives you the feeling of being in grade school. Everyone dreads these meetings.

The people who lead these meetings make all kinds of suppositions about who people are and how they act. They do all sorts of nonsense exercises looking down on everyone like they are in grade school. If your not happy or cheering during the process you get...."the look". "The look" probably also corresponds with a notation in your personnel file which says "Not team member".

Kimball thinks they are Google or Microsoft. Kimball thinks these goofy exercises put us in the big league because big companies do similar things. Real companies such as SteelCase just laugh at what a goofy cult we are!

Wake up management, some of us know what we are doing and your assumptions of us are demeaning!

When a company treats people bad there is no reason for people to respect the company once on the outside. As they say what goes around comes around. Kimball's reputation has suffered dramatically in the community because of how they have treated people!
