Unfortunately that's what happens when you have all these doctors from India now practicing in this country. I have heard more than one horror story concerning an Indian doctor.
Oh come on the man was majorly depressed. Why did his wife leave him alone? Did his wife attend meetings with him? It is a sad situation. But to knock the MD because he is from India? There are alot of white american MD that would have done the same. Hats of to this MD for going into this profession to try to help people with mental illness it is not a black and white field. I hope one saves your life someday.

The problem is that they just didn't keep him longer. This is the state of mental health care in this country. It's horrible. I know an 18 year old who is homeless and mentally ill, but the hospital will only keep him for 3 days and then they give him his meds, pat him on the head and send him on his merry way. The kid will NOT take meds, doesn't think he has a problem and is just as bad today as the day he arrived at the hospital. He has no family at all and I've tried to get him help. Other than a 3 day stay, he can sign himself out and that's that.

If the man was that depressed that he repeatedly attempted suicide, how can you blame the doctors? The wife has a lot of nerve suing them, maybe she is to blame for not being with him 24/7. Some people just cannot be helped and/or don't want the help. She sounds like a gold digger to me, her husband wanted to die, he killed himself, now she wants to profit. Talk about Sick. I sure hope the doctors win this one.

Unbelievable. People need to become responsible for their own "situational awareness". I do not understand how people want to blame others for their demise.

I hope the family gets a bundle of money on this one. Maybe some day mental illness will be view a physical ailment just like other illnesses and patients won't rushed out of the hospital and into outpatient treatment programs so quickly. This may be a for profit hospital that has to keep the money flowing or they may risk being shut down.

In defense of the wife...you can't be with someone 24/7. She probably has a job which she needs to keep to pay for health insurance. Everyone I've ever known who suffers from depression is dealt out pill after pill which often makes the depression worse. I remember when Warminster General opened...I'd NEVER go there!

I agree, Marilyn. This was obviously and ongoing battle throughout his adult life. To sue the doctors just makes no sense to me. How can you hold ANYONE accountable when someone willingly takes their own life ? This wasnt a child. He was a grown man. Its very disturbing to me that people have this sense of entitlement. Like somehow someone OWES her now because her husband was mentally ill and had no regard for the mess he'd leave behind. Shame on this woman for blaming a doctor for something not even her or her children could prevent. I hope she gets nothing !!

Also......Let ye not forget;
The Insurance Control of it all.
"They" decide, in ways, whether you get treatment or do not, whether you mustlive with your suffering or get that needed relieving procedure, and even whether you live or die!
This country of the U.S.A, if we can still call ourselves that, has fallen to tyrant controllers of insurance and greedy rich; in some ways, not unlike a Taliban control. We have the brave being strung out to justify a cause with their lives. Let us hope that the cause is not in vein. We could use similar justifiers here at home.
I was a patient of a well known orthopedic surgeon for an leg broken in three places and resulting pain conditions. He recommended a six week therapy schedule. As i began the process(which is involving in itself) and the treatment phase, i am suddenly told, by a 20ish yr. old "lead therapist" that i only need to do two weeks of cared sessions and just maintain a program at home. I find out that a "insurance paid doctor from California, looked over the "paperwork" and decided for all of us, what my condition is and requires. Now, HELL, is the only word that fits and i used it along with other fine non-dictionary words. I had to fight American Bureaucracy, while in pain and trying to do as my doctor recommended. Then, i did get my six week treatment, continual improving and strengthening, as recommended by "my specialist", with things that i "COULD NOT HAVE DONE AT HOME", and my condition improved so much more for it. SO, THIS IS AMERICA. Let's all be - not too proud and call our representatives - and let them know how disrespectful and threatening, this HEALTH CARE SYSTEM is to us AMERICANS.

Ahhh...the deadly Doylestown/Warminster Hospital mix.

That combination left me on intravenus feedings for 3 months and permanently left me with medical co-pays amounting to approx.$400/mo. That doesn't include the cost of the insurance premiums.

Talked to 14 attorneys and they told me all of THEIR clients are dead. That's right, you have to be dead to sue.

When I hear about the "ambulance chasing" lawyers I wonder where they were during my numerous rides to the hospital. I don't know what is so frivolous about being dead.

Well He did have a few failed attempts and this may have been inevitable. However, Dr's are quick to release without knowing all the facts, PLUS his primary care DR disagreed about sending him let alone with the drugs prescribed!

Your point is well taken, "Fix It" -- the only difference is this man CHOSE his fate. He suffered from mental illness for YEARS. He willingly took his own life. How can a doctor - or anyone else for that matter- possibly be held responsible for that ?? They shouldnt be. No one should be. There are far too many frivolous lawsuits, such as this. Too many people dont take responsibility and want to place blame and they have this sense of entitlement. Like somehow this doctor OWES you for your husband irresponsible, selfish act. Thats NONSENSE !!!! If she couldnt help him. His children couldnt make him better - what makes her think anyone else could ??? There are definintely instances that warrant being compensated for. THIS is not one of them.

Many of these posts show an appalling lack of understanding of mental illness. How fortunate you are that you do not "need" to know more. Yes, depressed people commit suicide. BUT when a depressed person - please remember that this is an illness and not a character flaw - seeks treatment, they should get treatment adequate to take care of their symptoms. Do you take a cast off a broken limb too early? That's the same thing as discharging a depression patient too early, except your broken bone won't lead you to commit suicide. The insurance industry is a major part of what is ruining our country.

I think the insurance company should be investigated. Maybe if they are found guilty and are sued more often, maybe they wouldn't put pressure on the doctors to proccess people faster.Still it is a government issue, and I blame them. If we were not taking care of so many illegals in this country maybe we would get the care we need. Hopefully a politician with a full working brain cell will get in and REALLY fix this.

Dr. Patel, you have to be joking! He is a very poor excuse for a doctor! He spent 10 minutes with my stepdaughter and said oh she's depressed when it was actually silent seizures.

Absolutely, Lynne! It's very sad to see how many people who post negative, inconsiderate and hardhearted comments about things they know nothing about. They should feel LUCKY they don't know about mental illness, because it's a horrible thing for family and friends to have to deal with. This woman is probably SO angry, but anger is just how hurt manifests itself. This woman has been hurt in her heart...please don't post nasty comments. Someday it could happen to one of your friends or relatives. What comes around goes around, so they say.

"He suffered from mental illness for YEARS. He willingly took his own life."

As Lynne said, this is a complete misunderstanding of mental illness. If he's that sick, he can't willingly do anything.
