Teens & Birth Control

So are you saying you would put your 14 year old on birth control? Do you not think that by putting your child on birth control, you are giving them permission to have sex.

No I would not.I know that you can not control everything your child does but birth control at that point I would say No..In fact as I stated in another thread,I would not let and did not let my kids date until at least 16yrs. old.Older if they were not mature enough.Even if you do not agree with me,I do not think you should take the chance of your child getting cancer at an early point in life and the other possible side effects are scary also.At that age they are still growing and I would not want extra hormones in their body at this stage in life.Parents need to teach their kids sex education and teach them what the Bible says about it and know where your kids are as much as possible.Not a perfect solution but it is the best available..

With respect. not trying to degrade anyone. But if i had a 14 yo that acted like i have seen a lot of kids act, I definitely would.

I was just talking about this last night to my husband and had to post my thoughts. Even though I am a professor now and teach at a college, I was pregnant at 15. Yes, my parent’s were strict, yes, they did not believe in dating until we were a lot older and we went to church. My parents were great parents but they did not understand teenagers. Even though you think that your kids are not dating or having sex, trust me they are. I told my parents I was at the time and I wanted on birth control and they said no of course. My parents said that would just give me an excuse, and I was to young.

To late, I already was having sex and was careless from being so young and had a child by the time I was 16. Parents, no matter where you think your child is and how strict you raise them, if they are going to have sex they will find a way, with or without your permission or knowing about it. They are to young to make a responsible decision. With peer pressure even worse today I can imagine how hard it is to be celibate. Many of my students have had children before they were 18.

If you do not want to take a chance on being a early grandparent, put them on birth control

I still say no.There are much more problems that can happen other than getting pregnant.First of all you have the side effects of taking the pill which could kill you.But worse is STD's.It is rampant.I know I know,there is condoms but they really are not very efficent.They help but not very well.The best thing I think is to have serious talks about sex and its consequences and as much as possible know where your kids are.I used to even show up where my kids said they would be to check up on them(sometimes more than once).You need to keep them guessing.Just do the best you can & just pray.

I say go for it. If they want it, get it... or get ready for grandbabies. You used to be able to get birth control at the health dept. without a parent anyway.

I Cannot believe what I am reading. Putting kids on birth control is just asking for trouble. You as a parent should have better sense. It's like giving a child a gun and saying "be careful." Someone is going to get hurt and someone is going to pay the price. Parents need to be more responsible and set the right examble before their children. No wonder the kids have gone wild.

yes you should kids will be kids and if they want to have sex it doesnt matter if they have birth control or not they think that it couldnt happen to them then it does its to late to say dang i wished i would have known i would have had her on birthcontrol its better to be safe than sorry just because they are on birth control doesnt mean there going to run wild but they will be prepared if that time comes

Ok well i know this is not the conversation for me but im a 14 year old girl and bout to go into high skool and i'm not havin sex yet but there is a posibility it could happen soon and if i was in yewr shoes i would put them on birth control i mean we r teenagers we make mistakes and go along wit the crowd its just in r minds we try and control wat we do but anyway i would rather be on birth control and havesex then not on birth control an be a 13 or 14 year old who had sex and is now pregnant that would be horrible i don't think i could ever face the world again yewr daughter would have a social and mental breakdown so i would put my kid on birth control but that's just my opinion im only 14 as i said
