I am glad that we have the first responders and rescue squad and our local fire depts. I know that they help in the savings of life, However sometimes I think that some of them get a little over zealous when an accident happens. Twice in the last few months I have nearly been run off the road by an unmark truck going to an accident. I always try my best to give the right of way to those responding but sometimes on these narrow rural roads there just is not anywhere to go.A few months ago I was going around the big curve coming into Allardt when three trucks passed me as they were responding to a wreck. There was no where for me to pull off and there was no way they could have seen around that curve. If someone had been coming around the curve we would have been killed because these trucks where traveling at a high rate of speed. Tonight I was traveling on the Tinch town road when I saw a police car with lights and siren. I moved off the road for him to pass. A mile down the road I saw an unmark truck with the flashers on behind me, However, I was unable to get off the road because there were guard rails on one side and I was meeting three cars. I thought the gentleman was going to run over either me I those that I was meeting before I could safely get off the road. As I approached the wreck I counted 12 trucks that belonged to first responsers. The EMTs were working on the injuried, the police had the area blocked off and rest were standing around looking. Again I am thankful for those that are willing to help, but if they kill others on the way are they a really a help or a hinderance.

They have to try and look good. You never know when someone from the radio station or newspaper might want to interview them.

Next thing you know, they will be going to "hair and make-up" before every call.

i agree watermelon.....some are even young and could care less about the wreck. they just want to impress their friends....but at the same time they like to run others off the road. same thing happened to me and the guy just threw his hands up at me....like where am i supposed to go, it was either a ditch or keep on going. i could care less about him so i chose the road. they are definitely there for show and nothing else. i thought first responders had to obey the law???? isn't that right??? i understand the need to help the people but like you said twelve of them at a high rate of speed is stupid. i guess next time lets just throw up our middle finger and run them off the road!!!!!!!!!!

That beacon glowing on their roofs is a license to be an incompetent idiot. Not all, but most. If I ever need anything resembling rescuing I'd rather they leave me alone. I mean sh*t, if they can get to you to save your ass you have deal with JRMC. Might as well carry just to make sure you're dead in case.

so when you're hanging on to dear life by a thread, just wait patiently while the cops and rescue workers go 35 mph to get to you and respectfully don't pass the people in front of them, okay? this really bothers me..."i was passed by some people trying to save someone's life, oh grr"...what if it was your loved one they were rushing to save? i understand they should try to keep everyone safe, but come on! they have a duty to save lives.

I do agree with you, you know it could be alot worse I seen a wreck on 154 where a car hit another car in the side and a little boys head hit the side of the car window, although they did say they did not need a ambulance there was ONE cop showed up and we had to call them like 3 times so if you can get more than one to show up then your doing great. I do understand that they could have been really busy that day but it was disappointing to see that. But with all due respect for our sheriff's dept this happened several years back. I know our law enforcement works really hard and I praise them for putting their lives on the line the way they do for us each and every day.

I really have do not have a problem with Law enforcement and EMTs and even the fire trucks. They have bright lights and sirens so that you can hear them some distance away. As soon as I hear a siren I began looking for a place to pull over and have always been able to find a place before the emergency vechile gets to me. Also Law enforcement and EMTs are trained to drive in emergency situations. If you notice when they come to the traffic lights in town they check to make sure it is safe before entering the intersection. So many of the first responsers or whatever they are called just turn on their flashers and drive like a crazy person. They expect you to know they are there and pull over even if there is no where to pull off. And it is really upsetting when they nearly run over you and then when you pass by the accident you see them standing there with thier hands in their pockets doing nothing but talking. To answer your question if I or my family are ever in need of emergency service I do hope and pray that help gets there quickly. However, I hope they don't run over and kill your family on the way.

Umm i believe they were talking about the first responders, not the cops. i agree with them, you don't need 12 first responders standing around taking up room. If i was in a wreck, yes i would want help as soon as possible, but i wouldnt want 15 people just standing there staring at me!!!! and they don't need to almost kill someone else when trying to get somewhere just to see whats going on:)

YOU ARE WRONG ABOUT FIRST RESPONDERS. FIRST OF ALL THAT MANY PEOPLE USUALLY DON'T RESPOND AND SECONDLY A LOT OF THE PEOPLE YOU SEE STANDING AROUND ARE ONLOOKERS AND PEOPLE BEING JUST PLAIN NOSEY.

Well in the accident i am talking about, the ones standing around being nosey where the people with their flashers on going 70 mph to the accident. And that many people may not always respond but i am just saying, i saw 12 trucks with their flashers on, going to the wreck! And whether there are 2 or 12, they are supposed to obey all laws and not run people off the road!!!!

I agree with you that they need to be much more careful but I would rather have too many people responding than not enough.Probably the people responding really do not know how bad it is until they do get there. If you listen to the scanner oftentimes you will hear someone say to tell the others to cancel coming to the scene.I know many of the rescue and fire people really truly care for the people in need. Most of these people do not get paid for what they do and often risk their lives.

When a call comes in to the 911 dispatch they usually can't get enough information to know who or how many is hurt. These people are trying to save lives. They don't know how many they will be dealing with. I hope if my family needs them they don't take time to get reports from the scene before they respond. On the other hand i hope they drive safe so they will get there to help.
