Lol stay on track "good citizens" ;) Its not a matter of the constitution of the U.S. nor religious views nor who is disappointed in who. Fentress county really needs to stay on this and find the truths in what, who, when and how with the changes being pushed for. There are more important questions that need to be addressed/asked and if one doesnt know fully what one is proposing or backing thats a problem. People have been screaming for "full disclosure" and "transparency" but now where is that at. And worse than that, some dont seem to care whether they know truly what they are supporting or not...some just want to be in the latest craze lol. At least know what and who you are a part of ...:) This movement is not about helping and the people...saying or thinking it is is willful ignorance...walks like, talks like == yep its a duck...:)

people want an honest and open Government which we do not have at present THEREFORE IT WOULD BE COMMON SENSE TO EXPLORE A CHARTER GOVERNMENT-----NOW KEEP IN MIND THAT A CHARTER FORM OF GOVERNMENT CANNOT GO INTO EFFECT UNLESS A MAJORITY OF THE PEOPLE VOTE IT IN.

signing the petition only provides an opportunity to draft a Charter once it is drafted then it must be submitted to the people for them to study and evaluate and discuss for many months before the ACTUALLY VOTE ON IT

it Defies logic and common sense to be trying to discredit something that does not even exist yet.

Look art the people doing most of the posting attempting to discredit this concept -----a want to be cop(CONSTABLE)---the wife of a cop and other people who have a vested or financial interest in keeping this present corrupt local government that keeps demonstrating contempt for the majority of the taxpayers and abusing others.

Your trying to make it sound so innocent and simple and that is a flat lie. Once one gets the ball rolling in drafting a charter its in motion and a done deal. You are making it sound like the petition only means it will be looked into. People should not sign that petition until your "superiors" give some real info about what it entails. Yall dont wanna talk about details of it you give vague info and talk only about the petition. You are misleading people and targeting older citizens especially to get the foot in the door know that once it is in the works "the group" has power. And your personal attacks on people are getting old "little fish". You see an opportunity and you will say and do anything to anyone for it...Stay out of Fentress county government decisions because you have no business in it. The fact that "the group" is comprised of you (lives in other county)and mostly newer people to the area says volumes...:)

From what read, You will still have 10 commisioners, and a county executive, but the commisioners will only have 1/2 power and the executive will have the other 1/2. Only property tax raises will be voted on, at regular election times, every two years, in an even year. Other taxes can happen anytime. How will this help? Only the FORM of government will change. You can still vote in the same 10 commissioners if you want.

You are right to a point...however, the charter can be drawn up to say anything the committee wants it to say. How easily could wording slide by the common voter to do something we really dont want...there are many opportunities when changing a system to dupe people into what someone else wants. And they are trying to make it sound like it is only an innocent petition now...:)

The last time I checked Fentress County was in the United States of America and we had an election here in August 2010. The people that are in office were elected by the people of Fentress County were they not? You make it sound like we live in communist Russia and you are trying to overthrow the government. I only voted for one of the commisioners that was elected and did not vote for the county executive that was elected but if this America then I have to respect the fact my candidates lost and work with the ones that were elected. I am a property owner in this county and do not like a 49% increase in my taxes that I can't afford to pay but if that is what has to be done to help get meth and other drugs and the people who sell and use them off the street then I will gladly pay it. My children and grandchildren live here and I want that crap as far away from them as possible. Did you not actively participate in the last election even though you do not live here? Were the leaders of this campaign not candidates they were greatly defeated in the last election? You are hollering at the top of your lungs that this will stop the tax increases but none of you have said the cost to the people of the county for this change. Where will the money come from to hold the elections and pay the ones forming the charter government? Who will pay for it YOU, Mrs. Rosecrants, DB? The charter government has come up by you guys since you or your candidates lost the last election (WHICH ACCORDING TO YOU WASN'T AN ELECTION BECAUSE WE ARE IN A DICTAROSHIP) What will happen if your candidates are not elected to the members to create the charter? Will it then become another form of THE RULING FAMILY? I did vote for the county executive or for 9 of the sitting commissioners but I do respect them greatly for having the brass to make a decision and stick to it. A decision that will give our law enforcement more tools to work with to clean up the drugs in this county and hopefully get people with good jobs to actually look at Fentress County and think This is the kind of people I want working for me and not think I don't want to deal with drugs while I am trying to run a business.

How can people say there isnt transparancy in government right now. At any given moment a citizen can go to the finance department and get a report of what anyone is spending out of their budget cant you? and the director is always there to explain anything in question I am certain. Doesnt seem like our present government is trying to hide anything.

A CHARTER GOVERNMENT CAN LET THE PEOPLE DECIDE WHAT THEY NEED INSTEAD OF THE COMMISSIONERS!!!
FENTRESS CITIZENS for RESPONSIBLE GOVERNMENT had their first public meeting tonight. It was a big success with a large crowd and a lot of people spoke out. A lot of voters signed the petition to form a Charter Government for Fentress County...

I would suggest that everyone subscribe to the POST AND E-MAIL NEWS they have been running as series of articles about political corruption and abuses in Tennessee in coming weeks i will be filing a series of articles about events here in Fentress county and the 8th judicial district. Next week i will have available yard signs and ...bumper stickers "NO JUST-US CENTER----that right folks the correct term is JUST-US CENTER because it is something that only the JAIL COMMITTEE WANTS an very small group who think of themselves only as "US" ----- proceeds to Citizens for responsible Government----ABUSIVE TAXES AND THE JUST-US CENTER in of itself should be reason enough to encourage every citizen to sign the petition for a charter form of GovernmentSee More

Jerry Mifflin Well just maybe will these commisioners see that we want to have a voice in what our tax dollars are going to and that we should have a say in all matters of county government, like the sinceless raising of our property taxes that most if not all can not afford.

I need to ask a ? why is it that week after week we hear the commisioners say that Fentress Co. is not a poor community. If Fentress County is in such great finacial shape, that all tax payers can afford to pay the 49% tax increase, why do ...we need it .Shouldnt our current taxe rate be sufficient to susstain the county Government. Maybe it's becuase were not as well off as they would like others to think ,our largest employer in the county does only start out at $7.25 and thats not nearly enough to buy a gallon of gas and a decent meal.See More

Becky Edwards Dailey Why should this county raise taxes with no jobs and everybody that works have to drive out of county. Then they want to tax electric bills, well let them pay a 700.00 electric bill like i have for the last 2 mths. 5.00 more does make a difference to me.

David Todd IS SOMEONE SUGGESTING that there is hard evidence that some members of the COMMISSION might have misused their public office in order to obtain a lower appraisal of real estate owned by them. If that is indeed the case does it appear that any of them realistically escaped or avoided a substantial part of the property tax increase they imposed on other property owners in this county?

David Beaty I wouldn't go that far Dave. However is interesting how some people split up their property and businesses and use the green belt tax rate to pay very little taxes. Even some of the high priced property offered for sale for the Justice Center uses the green belt rate. I am not saying anyone is breaking the law.
February 23 at 9:51am
#
David Todd There is the LETTER OF THE LAW and there is the SPIRIT OF THE LAW and by rights we should hold elected officials to a higher standard the regular citizens since they are supposed to lead by example.-----if there is even the slightest appearance of possible conflict of interest involving a Commission Member who voted for the tax increase the matter needs to be explored in depth.
February 23 at 10:29am 2 peopleLoading...
#
David Beaty also there is the sunshine law which makes it illegal for two or more County Commissioners to deliberate anywhere except at a properly advertised public meeting on an issue that they may have to vote on

David Beaty That includes phone calls, emails, texts, faxes, lette rs ect.everything and everywhere. How did they agree on the tax increase so Quick
if they didn't break the sunshine law?Everything that they approved is null and void if this law was violated!

Johnna Cooper Sewell David I was not able to attend the County meeting last night due to being at church with my parents in Knoxville. Please will you inform me what exactly was talked about as far as Commisioners were concerned? Did they vote on anything or even take a moment to consider how upset the county is about the new tax?
February 23 at 11:16am
#
David Todd It become almost impossible to ignore the appearance of conflict of interest and/or the appearance of possible violations of the SUN SHINE LAW in a County where most if not all elected officials are related by blood and/or marriage and where nepotism is the rule rather than the exception.
February 23 at 11:56am

If you would have called the radio station like I did, you would have found out they changed Wed. tv to Thurs because of Wed. night church. Please STOP putting remarks on here just to get 5 minutes of fame. Go to the source and always be able to back up your facts, before you state them as honest facts. People in this county never have gone to commission meetings, unless someone stirs up trouble and everyone wants to be a part of it. The meetings have always been open, ask DB, he conducted meetings for 4 years, noone came. That was their choice. There have always been reports in the paper of what took place at the meetings, and WDEB has for a long time televised the meetings. The choice has always been the people on whether to attend, nobody ever attended. So don't say anything was hidden, IT NEVER HAPPENED!!!
