No offense to the freshmen, but I'm not sure who they were. I do know it would have been Jamison Matney if his dad hadn't gotten screwed out of the coaching job and left. He grew up shooting on the side goals while we practiced. Watched him play at PH and he made everyone around him better. Hate I'll not get to see the kid play for my old team. Heard he was named freshmen of the year at his new school playing freshmen and JV for his dad.

I am glad to hear that Jamison is doing so well at his new school. We also miss him and his family very much. He was a great assett to the team at PH and his family were wonderful people.

i played ball with all of them and honestly they all need to improve! but probably the best is Steven. And Jamison was a good player but not the best. his shot was off and he couldnt dribble but im sure his dad is workin hard with him.

I've watched PH several years so I've also seen the other county teams and players. They have won 2 of the last 3 8th grade championships. 3 years ago they had a ton of athletes and were able to run everyone into the ground. Interesting though that only a couple of them were able to hang with it in high school. The next year they played maybe the best 8th grade game I've seen. They played a great team game and the result was an upset of York to win the county final. Watching that game, I decided that if I were choosing a team from those kids I would have taken Jamison first. He probably didn't score the most points in the game (don't know, but he scored when he needed to, rebounded, blocked shots and made smart decisions. The Avery kid proved he was a really good athlete in that game, but as the thread says "best basketball player". I think Jamison was the type player that a team builds around and as yorkguy said he made evryone around him better. It's ashamed he's no longer in these parts, but I bet we'll hear about him where ever it is he's playing. Sounds like he's off to a good start at his new place.
That being said I guess that leaves me with the Avery kid as the best freshmen here, though I always like to watch the way that Matthew Conatser hustled.
