If you have a problem don't call the sheriffs department. I know of 2 famiies that have been robbed multiple times and called the sheriffs dept. and when 1 of them went to pick up the police report for insurance reasons they were told that there had not been a report filed and they would not be able to file a report cause of the amount of time that had passed. all this time they had been under the impression that the robbery was under investagation and they would be able to retrieve the guns and other things that were stolen from them just to find out that they were just shit outta luck.

they were trying to see if any of the guns or jewelry turned up before turning it in the insurance company. the officer that went out on the call took a description of the missing jewelry and the serial numbers on the guns. also the pawn shops in the surrounding areas was alerted and said they needed a report so they knew what to look for. the sheriffs office said as soon as the responding officer came on duty the report would be sent out to the pawn shops. basically it fell between the cracks and was never took care of. the family works and pay for everything they have and it is not ok for them to have to miss work and spend more money to install a camera and monitor in their home when they can't be there. the police are suppose to protect us from thieves instead the thieves are getting away with it and the hard workers that scrimp and save and collect their belongings for years just get screwed. why don't we just hand over valuables to these people so they can go get high. so much for trying to teach our children that stealing is against god and the law.

i was told by a cop at the sheriffs office to tell my friend to get a deer camera so that next time they will know who is breaking in to their house. there shouldn't be a next time. And i am not originally from Jamestown so i know how to not leave things out. The people that got robbed are very close to me and she spent days cleaning the finger print dust off all of her things. How do they check for fingerprints, write down the serial numbers and not do a report. Mind you this is the 2nd time they have been robbed.

previous sheriff employed deputy who would very seldom fill out auto accident report. inquired with sheriff was told he takes plenty of time. meanwhile the insurance would not pay for rental vehicle due to lack of report which i had no control. He does it at his convenience was the final description.of deputys actions by sheriff office. This character finally left dept under other than favorable conditions. You guessed it right the current sheriff hired this character fron day one. he will be gone next election along with captain morgan

Isn't there any home security systems that may help in case it happens again? I don't know about deer cameras but security systems/ home cameras are not as expenisve as it used to be. My home has ADT and the few false alarms the cops did respond quickly. Usually home insurance gives a discount for it. It must be financially tough for them right now but it may prevent the next time or get the thugs caught again.
I do agree they need to talk to an attorney and check with local pawn shops.

That is a wonderful idea but make sure you don't shoot them in the back when they are running away because you then it is considered assualt. Not right but that is what the law states.

I can't say the names or circumstances but they need to check out local pawn shops. I know for a fact oneeperson recovered their stolen guns at a shop even after the police had sent out serial numbers on the guns.

A friend had a TV & some guns stolen & the officer that responded to the call didn't take fingerprints-he said fingerprints are useless. Needless to say there are some VERY high-powered guns floating around out there.

They are "useless" because the deputies around here do not know how to properly obtain prints from a crime scene nor how to properly process a crime scene.

Didn't y'all read the Sheriff's Corner in this weeks newspaper? According to the article the Sheriff's Office has advanced, as never before. Now how can anyone complain about a nearly perfect organization?
