I live in Dunlap Tn. I sold a pop-up camper to a lady here and when she went to get tags for it, they told her she didnt have the orginal title, I go down there and they tell me they have to have the last title that was issued for the camper. I told them this is it ,no they said I had applied for a lost title , No I didnt , yes you did and we will prove it. So they pulled it up. In Jamestown someone applied for a lost title to my camper in may of 2012 it was supposed to be sent to my old address ( which I hadn't live there in 9yrs), So I called Jamestown talked to the main clerk, She said they didn't ask for ID and she didn"t know me anyway. I have never been to Jamestown, and I would really like to Know how this could have happened.

From the State's website;

An Application for a Duplicate Certificate of Title may be filed in person or by mail through the office of your local County Clerk. Office hours and days of operation may vary. Click here to find contact information for your local county clerk.

When filing by mail, send;

-The completed form to the office of your local county clerk

-The fee of $11, additional county fees may apply

-You may be required to provide proof any liens discharged for the vehicle.

-If there are any liens remaining on the vehicle, the duplicate title request must originate from the lienholder and the duplicate title will be sent to the first lienholder on record.

-Lienholders and out of state applicants should apply through the office of the county clerk of the owner’s last Tennessee residence.

---In addition to providing the items listed above, when filing in person (with your local county clerk's office)

-You MUST furnish proof of identification (Tenn. Code Ann. 55-2-107), such as a driver’s license or valid passport. For more information on acceptable proofs of identification, click here.

-If someone other than the owner of the vehicle files, they must show proof of identification and have a notarized power of attorney from the owner.

---

So if the clerk's office issued a duplicate title and didn't ask for ID, then uh oh. But then again, getting them to own up to it again in writing or in court will probably be impossible. Good luck.

Auto Dealers are exempt from some of those above stated rules to obtain a TN title.

Also that person could of wrote down the wrong vin number . I once had a old 1974 car with correct 1974 title and when i got the new title in the mail it listed as a 1972 so go figure.

So your saying someone took your vin # off your camper and got a title for a camper they didnt have?
Sounds like a vin # problem with the camper mfg or DMV. what brand camper was it?

The papers they gave me at the county clerks office, had my name on it, my old address, my signature (what was suppose to be my signature) as if it was me that had applied for the lost title. The title they said was sent to my old address, if it was I never received it. What I dont understand is how and why this happened? If it had been the wrong vin# it would have been in someone else name. It was my name, my old address, as if it had been me that did it. And I just can not figure it out.

No. Ms. Prentice it did NOT have the right VIN number. In the future, please check your VIN's on items you purchase compared to the VIN's on your titles to avoid these types of problems.

Thats why All of this got into a Mess because YOU didn't check the VIN on your titles with Identical Campers, For you gave those people the WRONG Title for the camper you sold.

FYI

Vin #s on Trailers are stamped into the frame usually on the Right Top Side Tounge. Thats where the Dutchmen Flipper Popup # is as well.

Man from uncle, first let me thank you for telling me where to find the vin# on the camper. I found it. The vin on this camper and the vin on the title I have match. So no I did not give them the wrong title. So who really started this mess is the one who applied for the lost title and forged my name. I dont know who you are but the way I have it figured is you are either the one that applied for the lost title and forged my name or you work for the county clerk's office and let someone else forge my name because how else would you have known my name.

The camper you sold to another Woman Vin DID NOT MATCH the title you gave her!. The TN State CID told me that Personally, As He has already inspected that womans camper.
As far as forging a name AUTO Dealers have Special Privilages for obtaining a replacement title so CHECK the TN law on that one as well!

P.S. I dont work for the county and I didnt forge your name! Im Just the Man from UNCLE !
