Amen to that...it is just so sad that most of our children don't see the "wilderness" as something to do! I went swimming yesterday at a creek near my home and both of my children turned down the offer of going swimming!! I could not imagine turning down swimming when I was 12 or 13!! My mother would have rushed me to the emergency room!! They said they were going to wait until some of our friends got their pool open. They don't like snakes...well there were plenty of snakes when I was growing up but you get a couple of kids swimming and screaming because the water is so cold that snakes are out of there!! No snake is going to hang out where there is a bunch of noise and splashing!! Not any that I have met anyways! I love the out doors! And I will continue to swim in the creek until I am so old that I can't get up and down the back and God willing that will not be for another 40 years at least!! I can see the headlines now....90 year old granny dies swimming nude in local creek!! What a way to go! Drive in head first to that icy cold water and have heart failure...I just pray that I ain't nude!!

read articles, have numerous ghost shadow experiences... can attest to all that spirits of any origin do come to someone with an attentive eye and mind... I have to work @ 11:00pm -7:00am so I dont have time to share at this point but have you under my favorites to come back... alot of times these shadow spirits are family or someone close that cares for you and has a message of some kind whether it be of missing you or you may be close to getting very ill... my father passed in jan. 25 2006 for two weeks before that i seen shadows while driving that were moving around me darker than the darkness and again numerous times driving during day also aafter his death they too stopped also just a week or so before i almost died 0n dec.25 2006 i seen a fast moving large shadow at night,i was standing just at the line of darkness between the light of garage and outside when a lighting speed large odd shaped shadow streamed with lightening speed across in front of me as i was facing the garage light, as if it was important to get my attention....they say i should have been dead i ruptured my appendix on december 25 2006, i did not go to the hospital til dec.,27 finally got operated on on the begining morn of 28th@1am
Also you should note that most family members leave this world on the same dates not particularly the same month at all but date .. guess thank god it wasnt my time i have children to live for...

entered june 7th 2007 ,thanks

I only saw the shadow thing once and it was probably a month before my father passed away. When I saw it I thought of death! Then a bird got into my brothers basement....so life is strange and I do believe that nature does let us know what is going on around us. If we will only pay close enough attention.

I thought it was time to bring this old thread back up...and what happened to hillbilly?

Things have been real busy here since school let out. Have had lots of family in from out of state a good part of this summer.

The "friendly spirits" as we call them are very actie in our hosue as of late. Almost daily something is going on.

Anyway wanted to bring this back up to the top in hopes that I will get some more stories.

A friend of mine was just talkin today about richards road and the haunting there by the woman so I plan to check that out this weekend.

http://www.invink.com/tenn2.html has a book about ghosts in Tennessee, and there's an account of "the mysterious footprints of a barefoot child seen on snowy days in Fentress County--the remains of a child lost in a blizzard over 125 years ago."
Does anyone here know any details?

Oh yeah, I've heard of this one. It happened in the mountains near pall mall. The boy's father was killed in the war and his mother was going to Cookeville to get the body. The boy was staying with his old crazy grandmother and when she fell asleep, the boy went outside to follow his mother. That night, there was a terrible blizzard and the boy died. They never found his body, it was probably eaten by coyotes. Now when it snow, your supposed to be able to find foot prints in the snow around the pall mall area.

Just to clarify, the leading theory about shadow people is that they are collections of negative psychic energy that can materialize into large masses and sometimes even take human form.

Yes I have heard that too about wilder...Such a beautiful place to drive thru although some parts of that road scare me. I hear there is alot of houses going up out in that area. I don't know that I have actually heard any paranormal stories about wilder...just that some of the people down in there are funny turned and don't like outsiders around. I was also wondering...Does anyone know why the cemetary on the glenn Obey road is called the "Livingston cemetary"? And also does anyone know any history about Beggers Castle. Like when was it first established...what were all those buildings used for. And when and why did it shut down. Is a really nice place such a shame those buildings and such are going to waste.
MY HUSBAND HELPED BUILD BEGGARS CASTLE AND HE SAID THAT ONE OF THE BUILDINGS WAS A STUDIO WITH PICTURES AND ANOTHER WAS A COOLER AND A SLAUGHTER HOUSE. THE OWNER ROGER SOLEMN, I DON'T THINK I SPELLED THE LAST NAME RIGHT BUT HE SUPPOSEDLY HAD TWO WIVES. THAT IS ALL I CAN REMEMBER RIGHT NOW. HE ALWAYS SAID THAT THEY WERE VERY FRIENDLY AND HE REALLY ENJOYED WORKING THERE.

I am very interested in ghosts and hauntings. I work night at the hospital and believe that some of the rooms on station 2 are haunted. When they are empty I always get the feeling that they are not truly "empty". I can feel a presence in them and sometimes the tv in one of them will come on all by itself. I could also feel like my heart was goin to explode one night and I asked my friend if someone had died in that one room of a heart attack and she said that someone had. Really creepy!
I HEARD A FEW YEARS BACK THAT A WOMAN DIED IN ONE OF THOSE ROOMS AND SHE MUST HAVE BEEN POSESSED BY SOMETHING BECAUSE WHEN SHE DIED SOMETHING CAME OUT OF HER AND WAS SITTING DOWNSTAIRS DIRECTLY BELOW ON SOMEONE ELSES BED. I HAD OVERHEARD SOME DOCTORS AND NURSES TALKING ABOUT THIS AND I BELIEVE IT TO BE TRUE.

I was attacked by a shape-shifting spirit once. It was years ago when I lived at my grandmotherís house. There was something that was always creepy about the upstairs of my grandmaís house for some odd reason. I was often alone from about 11am to 3pm during the day but one day I heard something moving around upstairs. I cautiously opened the door that led upstairs because I thought my grandma had already gone to work. There was a shadowy figure moving around in her bedroom at the back of the house. It looked just like her but all the lights were off up there anyway. It was daytime but the upstairs always seems darker than any other two-story house Iíve ever been in, probably because of all the trees that surround the property. I could have sworn that it was her still getting ready for work so I started to make my way upstairs. The closer I got to the top though, the darker the room became. I felt some sense of urgency to go hit the lights but at the same time I wanted to face my fears. All boys go through a stage where they want donít want to be afraid of anything but they still know whatís scary for them. I think we actually keep that stage for the rest of our lives. So I keep going up and up as the room goes darker and darker. As soon as I get to the top, I stop. I look down the hallway but itís like a tunnel by now. It feels kind of like vertigo right-side up or something, like tunnel vision, dizziness. I canít concentrate. The darkness is overwhelming. But itís daylight outside. I canít see the daylight on the inside though. Itís so weird that I can even see it at all in the blanket of darkness. Suddenly I see something. At first it looks like my grandma and then it lunges at me, deforming into something demonic, growing black fangs, and long black fingers trying to grab hold of me. The spirit flies right through me though and I pass out at the top of the steps and donít wake up until several hours later when it really is dark outside. Iím no longer very scared of the dark because I know it didnít want me for some reason I guess. Maybe God was watching over me. He must have been. All I can remember after that is thinking about those glowing eyes the creature had. They were bright yellow, the only things shining within that blanket of black, inky darkness. Iíll never forget those eyes.

I have never experience any type of ghostly experiences, mainly because if there is a ghost there is old chic won't be!! Ha Ha! I never want to see a ghost even though I do believe in them. However, I did experienced a really strange occurance about 4 months ago. I was returning home from taking my son to "band" practice (he wants to be a rock star) when a black cloud like, see-through thing came out of a side road and passed right in front of my car. It was about as big as a cow and floating about 4 feet off of the ground and was moving very fast. It was gone before I could figure out what it was but I know that a large black see-through "thing" passed right in front of my car! I know it was see through because I was looking right at it and could see the fence on the other side of it. Any idea what this could have been? I haven't told many people about this experience for I was afraid they would think that I had lost my mind. Have you ever heard of this sort of thing before?
WOW I have had the same thing happen to me just curious to where in fentress county you were exactly were because i have had the same thing happen to me in this town

yes you are right it is called "beggers" castle. I think it is off the glenn obey road. I was born in Indianapolis. My mother's family are all from Burkesville, KY. My husband is from here. I met my husband in 1997 in Indy. we married in 1999 and moved here in 2000. I love it here. As a child we would always make trips to Burkesville and I would hate to go back to the city. The mountains and country life always appealed to me. I have no desire to go back to Indy. I have very few family members still living there. I remember the day we moved down here it seemed mile by mile I was leaving the hurried stressful life behind me and I have enjoyed the slower pace ever since. People here are great...well ya got ya problem people here like everywhere else...but when ya pass people on the road here they wave at ya...back in indy they were flippin ya the bird. I would like to know more about the ground we now live on...I have gotten some info from neighbors but not that much. I have also been down to the "Indian Rock House" towards Pickett State Park. I was told you can hear indian chanting there. But the first time I was there I heard a big ole growl. My husband and I were hiking and stopped just before the bluff to look at a orange lizzard...part of my lesson in what is poisonous around here, and we heard this loud growl. We of course stood very still and just looked at each other...then another growl and we heard brush breaking...I remembered ya not spose to run so I start backing up slowly...hubby then says run and I ran like the wind. My husband said i ran so fast back up that steep trail that there was a cloud of dust behind me. We stopped about halfway up and looked to see a momma bear and her cub scurrying off in the other direction. It took 2 hours for my heart to stop thumping. Hasn't stopped me tho, I hike as often as I can all over Pickett and BSF.
