And we wonder why our students are getting dumber.
This "cash for grades" thing happened at YAI while I was there. LOL! It was a hilarious incident. My junior year English teacher wanted new electric pencil sharpeners for his classroom. His request was denied by the front office and he got quite angry with them and grumbled to his students for a few days about it. Then he hit on what he considered a brilliant plan, he announced he would sell grade card points for that six week grading period at
10 cents each. He was going to keep it down to three points per pupil though, and it could not change your letter grade or pull you out of an F grade though. All the students thought it was a grand idea too! LOL! We lined up at the desk and plunked our money down. I noticed but did not really pay attention to the fact that one boy did not step up and buy some grade card points that day to help pay for the new electric pencil sharpeners. Well a few days went by and we came to class and found Mr.*&^*%$ in a very grumpy state of mind. Someone had ratted him and his grand scheme out to the front office. LOL! He told us about it in disgust and shame and said the administration came down on him pretty hard for his plan and actions. I remembered the one guy who did not pony up and confronted him, wondering if he was the squeaker. He angrily admitted it, much to my surprise! He told me he did not have a dime on him that day when the deal was available so could not get the extra points, and was mad about it. He said, if he could not get the points no one should be able to get the points either. Well I called him an idiot and told him plenty of people in the class would have given him a few dimes that day for his points including myself, if he had only ask. He stayed convinced though that he had done the right thing by reporting it to the office. He just could not understand that to do "the right thing" you must have an absence of malice.

LOL! LOL! Haha! Those high school days were a kick. I guess this would make the news now-a-days.

Mr.&^%$#* finally got to acting normal again but had a heart attack a few weeks later and missed most of that school year. I really felt sorry for him.

What you described might not be so bad since there were limits and it really wouldn't affect your grade much. From what you say, the most you could do was pull a low letter grade up to a high letter grade buy your letter grade basically stayed the same. You also only paid a dime per point. They were selling 20 test points for $20. No restrictions are specified in the article and if that was the case, someone could pull an F up to a passing grade and as high as a B. That is essentially buying a grade they didn't earn. That could very well have a huge impact on someone's grade. I don't have a problem with extra credit on a test or something because they still have to work for it and get it right to get it and they aren't buying their grade.

I meant to add at the end of that......extra credit is usually no more than 5 points.

LOL! Yeah it was pretty trivial as far as a grade boost. We kids were just excited at the novelty of it and felt a little empowered for a short time LOL!
And the teacher would get his new electric pencil sharpeners in the deal so he was happy.
We considered it a win win situation, until it came tumbling down. LOL!

Daily Horoscope for January 2

Self deception will be the main issue today. You may be judging your situation wrongly: don't hold back, say what you think diplomatically and without being hurtful. This should result in a positive mental outlook for you. Competitive sports activity will ease any stress or tension.
