When are the meetings? Aren't you supposed to follow the "Sunshine Law?" and advertise all meetings. I have looked and never found but one meeting advertised and that was one day late according to state law. Small ads are printed free at the newspaper. If you do not follow law, all meetings are null and void.

I think the next one is the 17th, and I'm guess at the same time and place as the other meetings. It's in this weeks paper.

Why have meetings at 10 a.m.?Most people are working or occupied with daily activities. If they are for real then set the meetings so the working people and business owners can be there.Things such as this tends to fuel the flame that the charter is more of an agenda of a few people rather than a way of making this a better way of life for our kids and grandkids.Where is it being held at?May be time to check it out!

I don't think any of them work except Peggy Stephens. I think she works at Big South Fork. Sharon Garrett doesn't work. Kristen Rosecrants doesn't work. Come to think of it, I think i heard someone say Jacob Rosenbaum works for the Boys & Girls Club. Becky Beaty doesn't work. I have been told that she and her husband are both on disability. I don't have a problem with disability, and she truly looks sickly - but what is wrong with him supposedly? Now be nice. I know what you're all thinking.

By the way, the next meeting is Tuesday, May 22nd at 6:00 p.m. in the small courtroom. From what I hear, not many people attend. I hear there are a few who have to tell the charter commissioners what the laws are and what they can and can't do, but there aren't many others there. You hear a little bit about it on the radio - from the commissioners. I don't remember seeing anything in the paper.

Regarding the laws, that is why the county commission has an attorney. There's nothing wrong with reminding or advising. At least they know that someone has their back. It's called "working together". There are notices in the paper.

The charter commission wants to do everything their way, and have openly said the F.C. Commission is breaking the law, so they want to take over. Well they now have found out the county is absolutely correct and what they want to do is illegal.time has all but run out for the charter to be voted on in Aug.A certified copy of the charter must be presented to the election office xx number of days before election. Also it is the duty of the Chair of the charter commission to certify and file copies of such proposed charter with the county clerk and with the county election committee Such copies shall be public recorfds, available for inspection or examination by any interested person. Such charter commission shall also furnish or make available to EVERY daily or weekly newspaper published in the county a complete copy of such charter.

The Charter Comission obviously think they can write anything they please and disregard the state laws of Tennessee. What a waste of taxpayer's money. Not surprising considering all the tricks this little group and their friends have pulled.

Why is everyone on this post afraid of making county officials more accountable to the folks of the county. I see nothing wrong with allowing folks to vote on more things. Of course I haven't read their proposal yet - I am waiting for it

Keep up the good work guys

It would be ok to change, but the charter members are changing laws because they want to and if the people do not like it, then they can file a law suit to change it. They have been told it is against the law, but they said they would write it anyway. Knox county wrote it, so they can write it. Knox county has several suits on their charter. If this charter passes, it will cost us more than ever. They are not allowing people to speak at a meeting until after they adjourn and their private taping is turned off, thus no record of questions asked! Is this the way to run a meeting?

To my knowledge the only charter commissioner that currently holds a job is peggy stephens. Not so sure about J. Rosebaum. I will tell you this Ms. Beatys husband currently has the county sued, and Ms. Beaty sued the county about 8 years ago and won. Do we really want people like this to represent our county?

JOKER.....

What is your opinion on what "guess who" said on post #16?I am not asking about,"if we should be able to elect the Superintendent of Schools,or voting on tax increases".. I am wondering what you think,if true, about putting whatever they want in the Charter no matter what state law says.

If it will let us vote on taxes, elect our school director, and have term limits then it can not be all bad!It can not be any worse than what we have in office now so heck give them a chance.Do you think doubling land taxes on the people without even talking to them about the reasons why is freedom?Sounds more like cowardice to me!We voted for a man in prison to represent us so why noyt let the charter have a hand at it?If it lets more of the people be involved in governing then that is good too!God is going to send it all up in flames soon anyway,so why worry,be happy thy redemption draweth nigh.

#1 once in place it can take forever to remove, like it or not. #2 They come to a meeting with prepared papers, read them and that is what they are doing. ALL work is supposed to be in public, not behind closed doors. No discussions. If this is done before they rule, what comes after they get to rule, it will be a lot worse. People,by law, CANNOT vote on a tax raise, only commisioners can, but they put it in the charter because other counties did. They know it is against the law, but they want it. The charter is supposed to be checked for legalities, and certified before the people vote on it, I hope
